I had the degustation lunch in the front dining area which has just enough room for tables along each wall with a narrow aisle between. Floorboards and textured cream walls added a rustic feel. I asked the waitress to chose a wine for me and a couple of minutes later she was back with a fresh bottle of La Tense Nebbiolo. Very light, and a good start to the meal. Three dishes arrived at my table almost immediately after the wine; a small portion of eggplant lasagne, a plate with a seared scallop topped with poppy seeds on a pool of very light fresh tomato mousse, a little bowl of fried whitebait and a side of diced tomatoes, and a third plate with two slices of rare roast beef covered in a very mild tuna and caper sauce. Excellent starters, but the scallop and the beef were standouts for me. At least until the next course arrived. This was the special of the day; duck pasta garnished with shaved truffles on a creamy truffle and pecorino cheese sauce. Delicious. Next up was a piece of pork belly served on celeriac emulsion with a reduction of myrtle berries (mirto in Italian) which are grown on the family farm. This came with a side of baked carrots. Never been a fan of pork belly, and honestly probably never will be, but this was one of the better variations I've eaten. To finish, I had a lovely, soft Corsican sheep's milk cheese with an ash and rosemary rind served with apple purée, mandarin segments and almonds. Once again my waitress came to the party by choosing not-too-sticky dessert wine to accompany it - a gorgeous Sardinian white called Angelus. The five course set lunch menu costs $55 ($70 for me as I upgraded to the special of the day) plus wine. The chef here has a very subtle touch and every dish was well balanced with interesting flavour combinations. Da Noi means "our place" in Italian, and I certainly felt right at home from the moment I sat down. My definition of great service is that no matter how busy the restaurant is (and the day I went every table was full) the staff make you feel like you're the only person there. And that's exactly how the staff at Da Noi made me feel. Great restaurant and definitely worth another visit.

The pizzas are big and while a bit more expensive than your normal delivered pizza it's worth it. The rosemary chips are delicious as well and come with a creamy delicious aioli. The delivery is always on time, the pizza is always hot and the delivery guy is polite (and sometimes kinda cute!).

It's almost perfect, and that's the highest compliment I can pay it because to be absolutely perfect would be boring.

My buddies turned me on to Handsome Sailors (the drink, not the seamen) and this spot has now become one of my favourites to stop in for a nightcap after dinner or a night out. We rocked up one night as the dude was locking up and he even opened the bar back up for us for just out of good nature. He even let us spin a few records and we did some cocktail sampling. He's a champ, this is a winner. Go there.

The coke was obviously necessary. It was nice. The pizza was quite large. Took a while to finish. Had to slow down towards the end. Fantastic food in a relaxed environment. We ordered steaks ($16 for a 300gm porterhouse with chips and salad) and an extra portion of salad to make us feel better for clogging our arteries with the chips. A pint for him and a glass of Shiraz for me. The steaks themselves were okay. The flavour was good but they were cooked a little over than our requested medium-rare. The chips were super crunchy (twice fried?) and the portion of salad we ordered was, well, a bit strange. The cider dressing it was served with tasted suspiciouly like melted butter and congealed a bit on the raddichio leaves. Maybe it was supposed to do that, who knows? The service was consistent and average HOWEVER the decoration and the food was what made the night great! We ordered the Piggy Platter to share the it was a great mix of bread, olives, pork, cheese...all the goodies (there was 5 of us). For our mains we tried: Vegetarian Pizza - super tasty with thin base. Meat Lovers Pizza Eye fillet steak - medium to perfection, tender and juicy (expect for my sister not liking rocket leaves) Pork Belly - falls apart and juicy. Steak and Guinness Pie - I would have liked the chips to have had more flavour and more guinness in the pie. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we actually had half of each pizza left over so perhaps next time I would look at sharing more dishes instead of ordering a main each.
