Center City Green Parking Deck - More of the garage

First Ward, Uptown

To much junk in the trunk , well not really but regardless I'm tell you about my parking…read moreendeavors... Well first I will start with how easy it was to secure this space for parking, the intent was to get as close as possible to the spectrum center to attend a concert. I went online and BAM my spot was accounted for and guaranteed. I wasn't able to get into the parking garage till 1700 and had to be out by 0200. The surrounding area was full of people and the garage entrance was right next to a trolly that ran every 10 minutes, in-between the wave of people and trolly we eventually made it in the garage. Typical garage with various levels of parking. As I stroll through the garage every parking spot I came across was occupied or to small to fit a hotwheel in , and YES I can drive!!! As I made my way further and further from the ground floor I noticed many cars decided they were going to not only occupy their spot but leave just enough of their car in the next parking spot to make it impossible for anyone else to park there. Well here I am 5th floor and guess who found a parking spot?? Yep me. To clarify my hubby is disabled so at first we were looking for a handicap parking but decided we would settle for any parking. Well, handicap parking it is (awesome since we were not fitting into the regular parking spaces) The parking spot was directly by an elevator which made it extremely easy to get to the ground floor and directly across the street to the event. Ok fast-forward to the aftermath. Us and 50 million ppl trying to get back to their vehicles made for a long night. The elevator took forever to make it back to floor one , so long we jus decided to ruk the 5 floors to get to our vehicle. On a side note: OMG if you want a leg workout I highly recommend running the ramps (ok I'm out of shape) we make it back to our vehicle out of breath once inside the car we proceeded to get in line to exit. It took us a hour to get out of this parking garage, it was ridiculous. So although this is a great location for an event, with nobody monitoring how people are parking it limits parking spaces. Handicap spaces are few and hard to come by and ensure you plan on the amount of time it takes to get out of the parking garage.

Traffic flow and control getting into the parking deck absolutely sucked and it took almost 30…read moreminutes of traffic to get in. After the concert at the Spectrum Center there was only two working elevators and the line stretched all the way around and was literally over a hundred people in each line wanting to get a ride. We were warned by another group of people that they abandoned using the stairwell because the homeless had urinated and defecated on the stairs.

This shopping center and condo complex fits the definition of "mixed use" with a few Big Box stores…read moreand some restaurants and some offices and some living spaces (not sure if condos or apartments). I have been here a number of times, usually to hit up Trader Joe's but there's also a nice Best Buy (that does auto installations), Pisces all-you-can-eat sushi, Lost Worlds Brewing, and now 3rd & Fernwood which was my destination today (Yelp elite event!). There's bunches more of retail and restaurants. The tall parking deck worked well on a quiet midweek evening but during the holiday shopping season, it will be a real challenge. The deck is clean, well lit and I did see security on patrol. As always, be aware of your surroundings especially in or near the elevators and stairwells. I did not bring the Sprinter as there is a low height clearance. Two good access points from Kings Drive and Charlottetowne Avenue have traffic lights. This is a fairly small strip, but it has some great restaurants, like Dressler's, Pisces, and…read morePizzeria Omaggio's...not to mention several cool eateries and retail. Speaking of retail, we tend to visit Trader Joe's the most...but there are other big stores, like Marshall's and Best Buys. Now, there used to be some cool boutiques here, but I don't recall seeing them recently (possibly closed due to Covid?). Probably the coolest feature of this strip is this little alleyway with a great patio dining...with clear views to Uptown Charlotte. Recently, they've installed this fun Umbrella Alley" display...colorful umbrellas suspended in mid-air. Think it's a temporary exhibition? In any case, there's always something cool to do and see here at The Met...and despite the long drive from where we live, we tend to go here quite often. Guess it's worth it?

Are you flying out of Charlotte? Do you need to be sure you will have somewhere to park? Do you…read morenot want to pay an arm and a leg? The Parking Spot is your answer! I've used this facility several times in the past, and especially when parking spots become scarce during the holidays, it's always nice to be able to make a reservation for a spot. Book far enough in advance, they even give you an early bird discount. We used the Parking Spot for Christmas this year, and it worked out perfectly. We made a reservation right after booking our flights, about a month in advance. When we arrived at the lot on our departure say, we pulled in, scanned the QR code in the confirmation email, and were told where to park. Once parked the shuttle arrived, and picked us right up to go to the terminal. It was smooth as could be, door to door service. The shuttle driver was friendly, providing a business card noting our exact parking spot so we wouldn't have any trouble finding it when we return. When we flew back to Charlotte, we caught the shuttle near back age claim, gave them our card and they drove us directly to our car and we were on our way home. Pricing is very fair, and much better than the pricing at the airport lots. I'll definitely use it in the future and will continue to recommend to others. Check it out!

This matters when flights are delayed or cancelled as the weather and shutdown created real impacts. What can improve: amount of shuttles rolling through for airport pickup especially at peak times. Our driver did radio ahead and told them to send 2 shuttles but help us all if you try to call no one answers. Pros: AAA deals are better than the spots promotional offers. Upon entry someone will swing by your spot in no time so if you're rushing you'll make it. ProTip: covered parking makes no difference when the snow hit there was snow on windshields and you're plowed in; whereas uncovered was unbothered with clear windshields and all. 4 stars in all.
