It is nice to come to a restaurant that is a staple of a community. Most of the time, diners, pizza…read moreshops, ice cream parlors serve this purpose, and sometimes, cafeterias/coffee shops, bakeries do. A little bit less common yet, we find restaurants that provide this space over a long period of time. Martin's Capitol Cafe would be such. We ordered a tamale, carne adovada and a chimichanga. The chimichanga wasn't deep fried but pan fried, which was not common and already a red flag. We got our food and it was just OK. The chips and salsa were good, but the food was OK. My portion was also small, and the rice was a bit dry. Maybe we ordered wrong... The restaurant is also a bit well worn. It adds charm but I think charm that is not backed up with good food is like a band-aid over a bleeding wound.

"I tell ya, I went to this place in Roswell called Space Burgers and Tacos yeah, the one with the…read morealien theme, because apparently even the food trucks gotta beam up from another planet. No respect, I get no respect at all. I roll up after a night of too much 'research' on UFOs (or was it the local brew? Who can tell?), lookin' like I just crash-landed myself. The burgers? Straight fire, juicy, loaded best thing I've had since my ex said 'I do.' But do they care? Nah, they just hand it over like I'm some regular Earthling. And the tacos? I'm not talkin' fancy restaurant nonsense here no white tablecloths, no tiny portions. These are greasy spoon specials, little bundles of joy wrapped up tight, hot off the grill, garnished nice with all the fixins'. I mean, they're greasy, sure my fingers look like they wrestled an oil rig but give me three of those 'shitty' tacos (hey, they're not shitty, they're just honest) and I'm in heaven. Perfect for when you sleep in 'cause you partied too hard, you're runnin' late, and you need somethin' to go that actually tastes like it gives a damn. I stand there, scarfing it down in my car like a slob, and nobody even notices. No applause. But damn if those burgers and tacos don't treat me better than anybody else in this town. If you're in Roswell and your head's spinnin' from aliens or adult beverages, hit up Space Burgers and Tacos. They'll fix ya right up... even if they don't give ya the respect ya deserve!"

We went to Los Novillos on recommendation from an amazing Mexican lady we met. She said it was…read moredelicious and she was right. The salsa is fresh with a good amount of spicy kick to it. The chips were house made and had spices on it with plenty of salt. The guacamole was house made and fresh and a little runny and lacked flavor but combine it with the salsa, it was out of this world. The horchata, which they just call it a rice drink, is made fresh daily and absolutely delicious. My husband had the carne asada plate and I had the carne asada chimichanga. The portions were huge and a great price. The carne asada itself was tender with great flavor. Rice and beans were light but didn't lack quality. The red sauce I had on my chimichanga was just the right amount of red sauce. The reason I took a star is because I either received the wrong plate or they call it the wrong thing on the menu. Chimichanga is basically a burrito deep fried but what I received was a burrito smothered in red sauce, not fried at all. That should have been listed as smothered burrito and I double checked the menu and they did not have a separate smothered burrito on there. The waitress was friendly but very awkward. When we thanked her for items she brought, she just laughed as if she was uncomfortable with anyone being nice to her or thanking her. It also took over 15 minutes to get the check and had to go ask for it from her as she was sitting at a table with other wait staff.
