Now this was a first in my Carribean restaurant explorations over many years. Ya know, we tend to…read moreforget about Haiti because of flavors of Jamaica, Cuba, Trini, PR, DR and so on. I met some Haitian friends of friends in The A one trip, and I asked what are some of their main dishes and I was drawn in as she was describing the different ones, so I asked the folks that lived there (the others were visiting from FL) if there was a Haitian restaurant in town and he mentioned this one and was like "they're ok". That was good enough for me to try, so me and my mom went the next day. Upon entering, the place was kinda dingy and worn down, but it was smelling great in there. I was looking to try the Fried Goat (which is a way different style to me) but they had just started prepping goat and was going to be a while (it was 3pm...they'd been open since 11a...kinda strange), so I went with the Fried Turkey, side of Pikilz, Green plantains, Dumplings, Black Rice and Cashew Praline for dessert. So, the Black Rice I was really looking forward to next, after seeing pictures of it with minced mushrooms on top and told it was made with mushroom soup. But when we for our to-gos I checked to make sure they got everything and I went to smell the rice and it looked and smelled like Chinese fried rice (!). I was about to be disappointed big time, I was thinking. But I noticed there was a lot of traffic behind us while we were waiting, so that was a good sign. We went home and unpacked it all and what surprised me was the size of the Plantains...they were HUGE. Never seen anything like it. So these are the unsweet type, so you have to eat it with something else to flavor it up. Then I got into the China rice, which had green peas in it and took a bite. Man! totally fooled me....that rice was BOMB. Flavor was totally different from how I smelled it earlier. My apologies HCD! Fried Turkey: a bit overcooked but good. I've had plenty of fried turkey in my time and this one was passable. Now, when you throw that Pikilz on top of that turkey, it gets turned up some notches. That lil side dish is better than any country's side dish I've ever had (Mexico, Kenya, Lebanon, India). I couldn't figure out what parts make up Pikilz, but that's some real genius culinary right dere. But, you know what finished me off nicely towards inevitable Itis? That Cashew Praline....omg. Straight up homemade sex I tell you. No chemicals in this! The way they just have sitting piled up on a tray all by itself, is the worse presentation, but you'll be shocked at how fresh and sweet it is. Man oh man oh man. I'll be back for that Goat! Sapa segne nabule.

This was my first time trying Haitian food and overall it was a pleasant surprise. Service was a little slow but I've read that everything is cooked to order. I was in the right lane and couldn't get over to the left. I google Haitian food near me to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me. I called and said where are yall located. I said I will be there shortly. I was on 2 wheels turning around to get here. None of these details matter but I really need you all to understand lol. I walked in and immediately ordered. I've been craving griot for 2 years. The last time I had amazing griot was a Haitian spot in Paris. The lady who took my order was nice. There were some Haitians inside so I knew the food was about to be fire!! I got my food kinda quick and walked out. In the parking lot, I yelled out to a guy who was inside and said "I'm about to go home and beat this food down!" He chuckled and asked if I was Haitian. (I'm not but this food that's about to be in my tummy is!) This place right here does not disappoint. The food was hot and tasty... the pikliz was good and spicy! Ooooh weeee. I will be back and I'm a little to spread the word! My goodness. Thank you for opening up on Stockbridge!!!

I had been wanting to try their food so figured give it a try. I placed an order for Haitian patties, Oxtail, and a side salad. When I arrived, I reviewed the receipt and noticed the price of the oxtail increased from $38 to $42. The price on the website is not currently reflecting the prices being charged. I use the unkind app but it was not working so could not use it to pay. The hostess said it was an ongoing issue. Let's discuss the food. My coworker enjoyed her Haitian patties. She said the island slaw was really good. The side salad is the house salad. I asked for balsamic dressing when given the option. There was none on that salad. Sigh. The oxtail were good. They were very well seasoned and had a good flavor. The rice and beans were good but not enough. The rice could have been cooked a tad bit longer. It wasn't fine bur like 1 minute when have been perfect. I did not dine in but it looked nice inside. There was a decent amount of people there. It was clean and nicely decorated. I would eat here again but I didn't like the price difference in the oxtails or lack of salad dressing. I think dining there those issues could have been addressed but I was back at work.

The first time, I still had about a 10-15 minute wait even after the app said my food was ready. This second time, I was able to get my order right away when I walked in. The staff is always friendly regardless of wait time. The restaurant is really a grab and go location; there isn't sufficient space or set-up for dining in. Each time I've been, there has been consistent for traffic in and out, so it's pretty popular. On my first visit (while standing around waiting for my order to be ready), I learned from listening to other ppl order that there is a lunch special where the meals featuring chicken are cheaper. I believe it goes thru 1pm. In my first visit, I tried lots of things and was largely disappointed in the taste. I had the brown stewed chicken and oxtail meals (both ordered with heavy gravy), a turkey wing, a chicken soup, and coco bread. The oxtails were the only thing I truly enjoyed. The sides on the meals were just okay except the plantains. The plantains were hard and dry, truly inedible. The chicken soup wasn't flavorful enough; I wouldn't order it again. For me, the turkey wing seasoning was too spicy, but my husband enjoyed it. On this second visit, I went only to pick up two turkey wings for my husband, as he has continued to talk about trying the turkey wing again. He ate them both for dinner along with some homemade rice a d veggies. He wanted to order sides but I discouraged that based on the first experience. Pete's is located in a strip mall that seems to have some other Caribbean businesses, including a market next door. The parking lot has an approaching need for repavement and line repainting. *uploaded pics are from first visit*

The menu selection was extensive though simplistic. Several popular dishes were featured that included traditional meats including goat (cabrit) prepared in different ways. I selected a meal which included djon djon (black) rice, fried green plantain (preparation liked tostones) and fried cabrit. Meal included small portions of pikleas (spicy cabbage mix) and tasty gravy. Order was prepared in a timely fashion and presented as verification before my order was placed in to go bag. Everything was delicious!!! Portion size was enough to have leftovers, which were also perfect. The truly monumental part of my visit was reconnecting with the gentleman who told me about Marie's several months ago. He was sitting in waiting area and we conversed as I took pictures. We talked until we realized our connection and I thanked him again. Will definitely return to get some of my favorite Haitian meals. The plaza where located was spacious with free parking.
