Easily one of the best Caribbean cuisines I've ever had in my life. The service was extremely nice, and they truly make you feel like you're at home. So I didn't think I would find Authentic Trinidadian food in Alabama but I did. Walking in I was greeted by the friendly cook Dianne who told us the special for the day but we already ordered Doubles on the drive in. Let's start with the doubles; Bara was nice and soft, flavorful channa and with the cucumber and tambourine source to top it off brought back memories of home 10/10. I also order the stew chicken, red beans and rice and felt as if I was eating a traditional Trinidadian Sunday lunch on a Saturday 10/10. The food here was AMAZING! The owner said that locals don't really eat here that often. They are certainly missing out! The food is tasty, prepared fresh, and AUTHENTIC! Oh it breaks my heart when I'm traveling and stumble across a place so special that is so far away. I can at least look forward to my leftovers. Seriously, anyone local or traveling through the area, you can't miss this opportunity. While this is not the typical cuisine that you're going to find in central Alabama, you owe it to yourself to check it out. All food is prepared fresh and made from scratch each day. This is a small, family restaurant and that love and care shines in the tasty food. While some may worry of spicy food, this is rich and flavorful without an overpowering spice. They do have homemade hot sauce available if you do desire the heat. I've included some photos of my meal. Everything was delicious. No doubt they have something for everyone. Chicken and dumplings are a frequent request as I overheard other customers place their orders. If you're willing to try seafood you will be pleased. The snapper was prepared perfectly. As enjoyable as my meal was, having the chance to visit with the owners and share casual conversation was an excellent treat as well. Food was authentic. Taste was average, less rhan normal flavor from spices. Overall, just not comfortable with the operation. Apparently another enterprise runs out of same facility. They stop one job to wait on you then back to another. Once was enough for me. read more

I travel quite a bit for work and I rarely go back to the same restaurant twice as I love to try new places. On my last trip to Alexander City I came across this gem and I ate there not 2 but 4 times!! They have the best tamarind sauce over red napper, I have ever tried, cabbage was amazing annd rice and beans were just perfect. This is a must try and I will be back next month again!! read more

Found this little gem on yelp on our way through and stopped in for dinner tonight. Wow! My husband and I both had curry chicken plates. In all honestly, I'm normally not normal the biggest curry fan (my husband is), but I loved this chicken! The owner also brought us a few additional traditional dishes to sample. Very cool. They are doing a limited menu right now with Covid, so call and find out what the specials are for the day. Or, better yet, give them 24 hours notice and pick three specials for the following day and get just what you want! Whatever you do, try this place! read more

We dined here in February. We I'll not go back. The food was not good at all. Service was ok and there is very little ambiance. Good food can overcome ambiance. We violated our rule of not eating anywhere during what should be a busy time and nobody is dining. We stopped and had lunch at peak time and we were the only ones in the restaurant. read more

We were heading to the coast and decided to detour through Alexander City to try out some food from Trinidad. I got the red fish and my wife got curry chicken. Both dishes came with rice and lentils.They also came with Roti and pumpkin. It was not complicated but delicious. The roti and pumpkin were new to me with caribbean food ,more of an Indian influence. They have bottles of hot sauce on the tables. Units of usage should be drops not ounces. read more

Home cooked meal Caribbean style! Healthy. Delicious. Friendly folks. Don't pass up the unassuming style. There is a meal of the day prepped from scratch. We went for lunch. The owner was very friendly and provided excellent service. They had two meats and two vegetables setup. I am not sure if you could order off of the menu or if that is only for dinner. The food was great. The homemade hot sauce was fantastic. Outstanding!!! First time visit but definitely not our last! The menu is limited because everything is made with all fresh ingredients daily NOTHING FROZEN. The limited menu was good because we did not have to try and choose what to order! Out challenge is to go frequently to catch all of their specialties! We had fresh grouper and fresh red snapper with Caribbean rice and sautéed vegetables that were cooked to perfection. The meal was finished with homemade cake! Carib Kitchen is a small family owned and operated restaurant and is a diamond in every aspect. The family was engaging, friendly and made the evening even more special! My husband and I travel around the world for work and pleasure and constantly are trying restaurants. To find this restaurant in our hometown with superb food is remarkable. We enjoyed our lunches from Carib Kitchen. I had the stewed chicken and my husband had the fish. The sides were generous helpings of Carib's special rice and macaroni. However we were surprised at the prices as our lunch cost over $35 and we had no beverages. This seemed high to us for a carryout lunch. read more
