They all have amazing employment "tenure" at Five Star. I find that they truly work at a team to give the residents the best care. I would like to specifically call out Ms. DANETTE GAYLE as an exceptional executive on Five Star Management team. Danette is Director of Sales/Marketing. My Dad lives in an Independent Living large 1 Bedroom Apartment on the 4th FL w/ remodeled kitchen and with a large outdoor balcony. His every need is taken care of......delicious meals, laundry, housekeeping, activities, transportation, beautiful grounds and setting, etc., etc. The actual Resident building is in a tranquil setting with lots of grounds, beautiful trees and walking paths. Nature and calm all around you. Some apartments have views of the Hackensack River. Finally, Five Star has gone through a MAJOR Remodel/Renovation 2 years ago or so. The establishment looks brand new! But what makes Five Star Senior Living so great are the people!! My sisters and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Five Star Senior Living if you are looking to give your senior parents their best life! Minimally, it is worth an exploratory visit appointment. Should really check it out!!!

People in Independent had aides, made messes but they were allowed to turn theirs noses. I liked when these same people ended up in Assisted Living.my brother brought this up to the Director and she never wanted to discuss this. 1-Aide stole money from residents, my mother was one. Police involved never heard back. 2-Director of Nursing wheeled her and others in wheel chair at 7:00 AM left in a room, found y mother warehoused, by accident showed up to bring something, was very upset seeing this. Why? 3-Several times Five Star car service did not pick my mother up from doctor's appointment, it was winter. I had to get a taxi to pick her up, very poor response. 4-Many more incidents, the last one put her on the path to death. 5-I was the Medical Proxy, they called in a Psychiatrist without my permission or knowledge, she was acting oddly from a bladder infection. They never called me. This doctor decided she needed her meds changed, at this point I agreed. In a day I saw a horrid response; I ordered the meds to be changed back. In the next three weeks she stopped eating and starved herself to death. But before that my mother had a on site doctor's appointment Christmas week 2016, I went to the office to be with her, not there, I rant to her apartment and surrounding her was the doctor, nurse, head nurse , they never called me!!! She died January 13th 2016. I blame Five Star and the Director of Nursing at the time, Ruthann. The food was okay, chicken always looked under done, the Director would come in and say it was cooked according to the thermometer, it was red. If you have no where else to send your parent, then this is your option. I regret not sending her to The Jewish Home , not the Nursing home the Assisted Living.

His surgery day, everything went well. I went to visit him the following day and while we were walking down the hallway, my uncle was walking with his IV pole with a nurse. The nurse was scrambling trying to fix his IV. At one point, she clamped his IV to change out the tubing and the IV bag and did it incorrectly and blood was spilling all over the hallway. My uncle was also getting visibly tired from standing in the hallway while the nurse tried to clean up and asked to go back to his wrong. The nurse asked him to wait. My mother is currently under their hospice services in a nursing home, and she made it very clear to me that she did not want to spend her final days there--she wanted to come home to be surrounded by family in a peaceful, familiar environment. We had everything in place: a new hospice provider ready to support us and a certified nursing assistant (CNA) lined up for her care at home, specifically for when she becomes unresponsive with no fluid or food intake during her last days. However, the hospice case worker from Amedisys strongly discouraged this move and influenced my siblings to keep Mom in the nursing home, even though it went against her stated wishes. When I asked why she was advising against something that would bring our family more comfort, she didn't offer a clear explanation. She emphasized that Mom was "comfortable" there, but this was only a short-term arrangement since we initially lacked the resources to bring her home--Mom had no other option then and adapted as best she could. Once our plan was ready, the case worker continued to push back. I directly asked what specific care Mom would receive in the nursing home that couldn't be provided at home, given that she will soon be unresponsive, with a full-time catheter, no fluid or food intake, and only basic needs like repositioning every few hours and medication. The case worker couldn't give a concrete answer--it came down to general statements without details. It seems this may have been motivated by financial considerations, as changing providers would mean Amedisys no longer billing for her care. This approach felt more focused on business interests than on the emotional needs of families or the patient's preferences. What kind of hospice prioritizes its own processes over what could provide the most peace in a loved one's final days? This doesn't feel like truly compassionate care--it's more like a service that overlooks family dynamics, and it has strained our relationships at a challenging time. If you're looking into Amedisys, I suggest considering other options. Choose providers that genuinely focus on patients and families above all else. I wouldn't recommend them. It's truly sad that my siblings agreed with this decision, leading Mom to spend her final days in a place she specifically said she didn't want to be.

They use APS as a way to try to bullying you into not asking questions. example- my sister has had brain cancer for 30 years (according to her) then last month she told me she had been misdiagnosed and was completely cancer free. She even ask me to buy her a car since she was now cleared to drive. 3 weeks later I get a message from a social worker at Amedisys saying she was calling about a "former patient" my sister. I called her back and asked why she was calling if my sister was a former patient. she started yelling at me telling me she did not call her a former patient. I tried to calm her down and tell her she did but if she misspoke that is ok, I am just trying to figure out who I am talking to. she continued to scream at me telling me I miss heard. so asked if we could just move on to what is going on with my sister. the next words out of her mouth were you have the means so you need to provide help for your sister. I ask what help. my sister just told me she is doing great and the doctors have even cleared her to drive. I followed with what is going on with my sister because you saying she needs help and what she is telling me is two different things. she started screaming at me again telling me that she is the professional and that if she say she needs help then then my sister needs help. I told her I am allowed to ask questions and that all I want is to do is figure out what is going on and why she needs help. she tells me that my sister is a fall risk because she is on opioids and that she needs someone to come by twice a week to clean her house and help her prepare meals. So I asked if she is a fall risk is 2 days a week enough? she again starts yelling at me. I tired to explain that I am just trying to figure out what is going on and why I am getting different stories so I tell her about my sister telling me she was given permission to drive by the doctor. she says she has no problem with my sister driving and told her that. I said I have a problem with telling someone on Opioids they can drive. that is DUI. she starts yelling again telling me she is the professional not me. I asked her for her company name and told her I would call them because she obviously was not going to talk to me like a professional. I called the company within 10 minutes (I had to find the number online because she would not give it to me, and told them about my phone call. I explain to them my concerns. 1. if my sister is a fall risk to the point she needs help 2 days a week, what happens if she fall on the other 5 days? should we also get her a button to push to report if she falls and can't get up? is 2 days enough? does she need 4 days or should we consider a full time living place. 2. I asked them to have a nurse or doctor look at her file and tell me what they recommend. they said they would get with the nurse that knows my sister the best and get back to me in 24-48 hours. 3. I asked them what their thoughts were on the social worker telling my sister she can drive while on opioids. They told me that was ok, if they think it is safe they have no problem with her driving while taking opioids. I told her that I disagreed with that and I feel like driving on opioids is DUI. i finished the phone call by telling them to please get back to me with me as soon as possible so we can get started getting my sister what she needs. While I was on the phone with them the social worker was calling the states APS department and telling them that is was refusing to get my sister the care she needed. I never once refused to get the care. If anything I was questioning if the care they recommended was enough. but after reading the BBB reviews and other reviews on this company it is clear that are not professional and that all they care about is money. they use reporting people, there are reviews exactly like mine, when they question them. I supplied the state case worker with all the info including the voice mail and other messages, the conversation with the hospice worker office, my phone records of where I called them and they did not call me back. she was very apologetic for what happened and was going to look into the company. If you are a hateful person and want to punish your family member, call this company to take care of them. if you love your family take the time to review this company before hiring them!

After being brought into the nurses station area they took his pulse and his blood pressure and were taking his temperature when the nurse walked away and did not come back for over 15 minutes with the thermometer in his mouth. When she did she went to do something else from what he says and didn't respond back to him for nearly 20 minutes at which time he got up and left because in his terms it was unreasonable to be treated in that manner especially after hitting his head and something could've been seriously wrong with him. After a month and a half we received a notice from the hospital billing that they were not paid for a $600 bill so at that time we submitted the bill to our insurance company GEICO and we began to have issues because Holy Name refused to submit the appropriate bill with itemized services so that GEICO could appropriately pay the bill. This went on two more times with the HOSPITAL refusing to submit the proper bill. In early December 2025 for the second time I contacted my auto insurance company GEICO who took holy names phone number in personally contacted them and my adjuster Joelle assured me that the bill would get paid because she had spoken to holy name. The insurance company explained to me that many times these bills are created in fraud and need to be verified and sent with the proper treatments with their codes so that the insurance company can pay them and holy name has been refusing so far to comply with the normal standards yet they're doing everything to avoid paying the bill in the appropriate manner meanwhile screwing my sons credit record up.
