Fox trail was recommended to me by a Social Worker named Blossom at CareOne in Cresskill after my father spent a stint there due to his disease. This place has been a godsend. They provided excellent service through a staff that are caring compassionate and provide overall excellent care. They took care of all his needs including meals, feeding, and bathing, and they do it with such grace. I finally was able to relax and know that he was ok. All I had to do is spend time with him after he was there. He was a decorated Korean War veteran and at 91 years of age they showed him the respect that he deserved as he reached the end of his life. He lived a long and productive life and raised three children with the utmost respect and much love. Thank you Nicola and all the wonderful staff at Fox Trail Memory Care.

Packages are clearly not her purview, even when they have been delivered and put in closet only she has access to, she says, "I don't have the package, it was put here.". She's a control freak who is often not at her desk or on the phone and expects you to wait for her convenience to address things or press the button to access Wellspring Village, despite the fact she and management go out of their way to assure you she has a cell phone and you can gain access even if she is not at the desk. Maybe I get that when going in since you can see her, but when trying to get out, how are you supposed to know if she is at her desk behind a closed door? Plus she is always complaining about something and commiserating with co-workers on how unfair others are to her. Nice lady but step out of her lines and you are toast. For what they charge, you should expect service not scolding.

I will never forget the love they gave him from the moment he walked in until the moment he passed. I consider all of them my family and cannot thank them enough for the love, care, respect and dignity they extended to him. Beautiful place with people with big hearts who truly care!

Do Not Bring Your Loved Ones to Whisper Woods of Smithtown…read more Choosing an assisted living facility for a parent is not just a logistical decision...it's an act of love, trust, and heartbreak all at once. You're entrusting someone else to care for the person who once cared for you. You're placing their dignity, safety, and happiness into the hands of strangers, hoping they will be treated with the respect every human being deserves. We made that choice. We placed our faith in Whisper Woods of Smithtown. And they shattered it. When my mother entered Whisper Woods, she was mentally sharp, socially vibrant, and full of life. She made friends. She laughed. She was the first to show up for bingo, and she never missed an arts and crafts session. She brought light into that building. Then, without warning, without discussion, and without a single medical evaluation, Whisper Woods forcibly removed her from her community and locked her into a dementia unit. No consent. No explanation. No inclusion of the family who had stood by her side for over six years. We were stunned. She was not confused. She was not cognitively impaired. She was not lost. And yet they treated her like she was. We sought outside opinions...three to be exact. Each expert, without hesitation, confirmed the same truth: my mother did not belong in a dementia unit. And so, we moved her. We found a new facility that saw her for who she truly is: a fully competent, independent, intelligent woman. Today, she is thriving once more free to wheel around in her wheelchair, to laugh and to make friends again. But the damage Whisper Woods inflicted still haunts us and her...an 86 year old woman who worked all her life to be treated with respect. When she was first relocated within Whisper Woods' building, they promised she could continue seeing her longtime friends upstairs. That promise lasted barely a moment. When her friends asked if she liked her new unit and she replied honestly, "No," Whisper Woods retaliated. They banned her from leaving the floor. For telling the truth. For having feelings. And then, they came after our family. I, her daughter, was told I could only visit her in her room. No outings and no shared spaces. If another family member came to visit, we were confined together isolated, boxed in, as if we had done something wrong. Even more shocking, they would not allow me to take my mother out of the building...not for doctors' appointments, not for lunch, not even for family events. Her world shrank to a single hallway. She told me through tears: "I feel like I'm in jail." The staff became so disengaged from her care, so distant from the reality of who she was, that nurses claimed they didn't even know she could speak. This wasn't care. This was imprisonment. This wasn't oversight. This was a complete failure of humanity. We have filed a formal report with the Department of Health, not just for our own peace but to protect others from this kind of trauma. What Whisper Woods did was not only unethical. It may very well have been unlawful. Please, if you are reading this learn from our pain. No family should be forced to watch their loved one fade because a facility refuses to listen. No one should be silenced for speaking up. No elderly woman should be punished for telling her truth. Whisper Woods of Smithtown did not just fail to protect my mother they stripped her of her identity, her agency, and her dignity. I urge you with everything in me: do not place your loved ones in this facility. They deserve better.

The review below reflects the experience and concerns that led up to that outcome. Update (March 2026): After my original review, I was contacted by management and informed that reimbursement for the dentures that were discarded while my mother was a resident would be processed. I subsequently received an email confirming that the payment was being processed. However, despite that assurance, I have not been provided with a mailing date or confirmation that the check has been issued, and I continue to be told only that the reimbursement is "still in process." For that reason, it is not accurate to characterize this matter as resolved at this time.

They all have amazing employment "tenure" at Five Star. I find that they truly work at a team to give the residents the best care. I would like to specifically call out Ms. DANETTE GAYLE as an exceptional executive on Five Star Management team. Danette is Director of Sales/Marketing. My Dad lives in an Independent Living large 1 Bedroom Apartment on the 4th FL w/ remodeled kitchen and with a large outdoor balcony. His every need is taken care of......delicious meals, laundry, housekeeping, activities, transportation, beautiful grounds and setting, etc., etc. The actual Resident building is in a tranquil setting with lots of grounds, beautiful trees and walking paths. Nature and calm all around you. Some apartments have views of the Hackensack River. Finally, Five Star has gone through a MAJOR Remodel/Renovation 2 years ago or so. The establishment looks brand new! But what makes Five Star Senior Living so great are the people!! My sisters and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Five Star Senior Living if you are looking to give your senior parents their best life! Minimally, it is worth an exploratory visit appointment. Should really check it out!!!

Five Star. These are the facts…read more First and foremost terrible discrimination against the people in Assisted Living from residences in Independent Living. People in Independent had aides, made messes but they were allowed to turn theirs noses. I liked when these same people ended up in Assisted Living.my brother brought this up to the Director and she never wanted to discuss this. 1-Aide stole money from residents, my mother was one. Police involved never heard back. 2-Director of Nursing wheeled her and others in wheel chair at 7:00 AM left in a room, found y mother warehoused, by accident showed up to bring something, was very upset seeing this. Why? 3-Several times Five Star car service did not pick my mother up from doctor's appointment, it was winter. I had to get a taxi to pick her up, very poor response. 4-Many more incidents, the last one put her on the path to death. 5-I was the Medical Proxy, they called in a Psychiatrist without my permission or knowledge, she was acting oddly from a bladder infection. They never called me. This doctor decided she needed her meds changed, at this point I agreed. In a day I saw a horrid response; I ordered the meds to be changed back. In the next three weeks she stopped eating and starved herself to death. But before that my mother had a on site doctor's appointment Christmas week 2016, I went to the office to be with her, not there, I rant to her apartment and surrounding her was the doctor, nurse, head nurse , they never called me!!! She died January 13th 2016. I blame Five Star and the Director of Nursing at the time, Ruthann. The food was okay, chicken always looked under done, the Director would come in and say it was cooked according to the thermometer, it was red. If you have no where else to send your parent, then this is your option. I regret not sending her to The Jewish Home , not the Nursing home the Assisted Living.
