I am deeply disappointed by my experience with Amedisys, and I feel it's important to share this to help other families navigating end-of-life care. My mother is currently under their hospice services in a nursing home, and she made it very clear to me that she did not want to spend her final days there--she wanted to come home to be surrounded by family in a peaceful, familiar environment. We had everything in place: a new hospice provider ready to support us and a certified nursing assistant (CNA) lined up for her care at home, specifically for when she becomes unresponsive with no fluid or food intake during her last days. However, the hospice case worker from Amedisys strongly discouraged this move and influenced my siblings to keep Mom in the nursing home, even though it went against her stated wishes. When I asked why she was advising against something that would bring our family more comfort, she didn't offer a clear explanation. She emphasized that Mom was "comfortable" there, but this was only a short-term arrangement since we initially lacked the resources to bring her home--Mom had no other option then and adapted as best she could. Once our plan was ready, the case worker continued to push back. I directly asked what specific care Mom would receive in the nursing home that couldn't be provided at home, given that she will soon be unresponsive, with a full-time catheter, no fluid or food intake, and only basic needs like repositioning every few hours and medication. The case worker couldn't give a concrete answer--it came down to general statements without details. It seems this may have been motivated by financial considerations, as changing providers would mean Amedisys no longer billing for her care. This approach felt more focused on business interests than on the emotional needs of families or the patient's preferences. What kind of hospice prioritizes its own processes over what could provide the most peace in a loved one's final days? This doesn't feel like truly compassionate care--it's more like a service that overlooks family dynamics, and it has strained our relationships at a challenging time. If you're looking into Amedisys, I suggest considering other options. Choose providers that genuinely focus on patients and families above all else. I wouldn't recommend them. this company does not even deserve a score as high as 1. Please read the reviews on them on here and on BBB website before trusting your love ones with them. They use APS as a way to try to bullying you into not asking questions. example- my sister has had brain cancer for 30 years (according to her) then last month she told me she had been misdiagnosed and was completely cancer free. She even ask me to buy her a car since she was now cleared to drive. 3 weeks later I get a message from a social worker at Amedisys saying she was calling about a "former patient" my sister. I called her back and asked why she was calling if my sister was a former patient. she started yelling at me telling me she did not call her a former patient. I tried to calm her down and tell her she did but if she misspoke that is ok, I am just trying to figure out who I am talking to. she continued to scream at me telling me I miss heard. so asked if we could just move on to what is going on with my sister. the next words out of her mouth were you have the means so you need to provide help for your sister. I ask what help. my sister just told me she is doing great and the doctors have even cleared her to drive. I followed with what is going on with my sister because you saying she needs help and what she is telling me is two different things. she started screaming at me again telling me that she is the professional and that if she say she needs help then then my sister needs help. I told her I am allowed to ask questions and that all I want is to do is figure out what is going on and why she needs help. she tells me that my sister is a fall risk because she is on opioids and that she needs someone to come by twice a week to clean her house and help her prepare meals. So I asked if she is a fall risk is 2 days a week enough? she again starts yelling at me. I tired to explain that I am just trying to figure out what is going on and why I am getting different stories so I tell her about my sister telling me she was given permission to drive by the doctor. she says she has no problem with my sister driving and told her that. I said I have a problem with telling someone on Opioids they can drive. that is DUI. she starts yelling again telling me she is the professional not me. I asked her for her company name and told her I would call them because she obviously was not going to talk to me like a professional. I called the company within 10 minutes (I had to find the number online because she would not give it to me, and told them about my phone call. I explain to them my concerns. 1. if my sister is a fall risk to the point she needs help 2 days a week, what happens if she fall on the other 5 days? should we also get her a button to push to report if she falls and can't get up? is 2 days enough? does she need 4 days or should we consider a full time living place. 2. I asked them to have a nurse or doctor look at her file and tell me what they recommend. they said they would get with the nurse that knows my sister the best and get back to me in 24-48 hours. 3. I asked them what their thoughts were on the social worker telling my sister she can drive while on opioids. They told me that was ok, if they think it is safe they have no problem with her driving while taking opioids. I told her that I disagreed with that and I feel like driving on opioids is DUI. i finished the phone call by telling them to please get back to me with me as soon as possible so we can get started getting my sister what she needs. While I was on the phone with them the social worker was calling the states APS department and telling them that is was refusing to get my sister the care she needed. I never once refused to get the care. If anything I was questioning if the care they recommended was enough. but after reading the BBB reviews and other reviews on this company it is clear that are not professional and that all they care about is money. they use reporting people, there are reviews exactly like mine, when they question them. I supplied the state case worker with all the info including the voice mail and other messages, the conversation with the hospice worker office, my phone records of where I called them and they did not call me back. she was very apologetic for what happened and was going to look into the company. If you are a hateful person and want to punish your family member, call this company to take care of them. if you love your family take the time to review this company before hiring them! read more

I may be wrong here but I feel that when you call hospice in to treat a loved one you better be sure they are on their way out. From what I have seen lately meds withheld morphine given which slows the system down which makes the Patient unable to go to the bathroom, in pain, no enema given, no insulin given. Horrible management/coordination of appointments, skipping them, rescheduling or cancelling on a hospice patient with their family is evil, especially when you are the ones supposed to be making them comfortable. Instead, it seems they drag it on to wait for the patient to die so it is less work for them. Social worker came and told us our family member will have a nurse visit daily and had a scheduled bathing. Instead, the nurse comes and says no, nothing scheduled. We had to force them to get come the next day otherwise they wanted to drag it out to next week. Yeah, just wait til death to clean them, instead of making them comfortable one last time and be clean. DO YOUR FUCKING JOB. Everyone else, do your research. Get everything in writing, bother the shit out of them to make sure they follow everything. Edit.... just saw they dont even reply to bad reviews. Scared to answer? You should be more scared of what happens to you in the afterlife, treating your patients like this. Get your shit organized. During the latter part of 2024, Amedisys Home Health Care was contracted to give me occupational and physical therapy after I was released from hospital. I received very little therapy. Rather, most of the time the therapists visited and spent most of their time "evaluating" me. No improvent was made in my health because the therapists did nothing to help me. Every 2 weeks they called themselves "evaluating" me, which consisted of asking me the same quetions that were asked in previous weeks. This went on for about 8 weeks. Very little hands-on therapy; only pictures of exercises for me to do on my own. What a disgrace! And, what a disservice to people wanting to get better. Very disappointing. Also, the scheduling system was horrible. The therapists usually called the night before coming to the home. The patient was not allowed to have advanced scheduling for the week; only the night before. When I asked about this I was told that this was the company's policy. Therefore, there was no way of getting advanced notice of therapy visits so that the patient/customer could plan his or her week. The arrangement was extremely disorganized and very unprofessional. I will never use Amedisys again nor will I ever recommend this so-called "home health care" service to anyone. read more

My husband was just released from the hospital after the stroke. He was assigned home care by Amedisys Home Care. We have some rain in Mt. Pleasant, SC today. I was driving all morning and did not find even one single flooded area including Shem Creek. Overpriced and pushy. They prey on the elderly coercing them to sign up for service that boils down to taking blood pressure. For this "service" Amedisys bills Medicare such a high a amount that the elderly patient (who is almost always on a fixed income) is billed an additional $125 per visit. When the patient attempts to cancel future visits, Amedisys employees pressure the senior to continue. If the senior stays strong with the request to cancel Amedisys employees insist that one more $125 copay visit is necessary. I would steer clear of this group read more

I feel like I have failed my mother in choosing and staying with this agency. I wanted to change but gave them a second, third, and fourth chance. I write this to save others from selecting them. Terribly incompetent office staff. I had a literal second job managing them and being on the phone. Days would go by without an aide and sometimes you had no idea who was showing up or when. We never saw a medical director - not sure if we were supposed to. I had a nurse get short with me when I asked her to check my mom's bed wounds because I should have "asked sooner" during the visit. Many other concerns about how things were handled medically but I tried to focus on that "fixing" wasn't the goal. We went two weeks without social worker support. When I called for the 4th time about this, now in tears and begging for support, I was told I had seen a social worker. So apparently I was lying? Come to find out our social worker had quit the company and nobody told us. So we got a new one. She seemed great - except my mom died two days ago and I haven't heard a peep from her since two days BEFORE she died. No bereavement counselor call. Nothing. It's incredibly painful to feel like I failed my mother at the end of her life by choosing this agency who sold me and my family on "compassionate care." There is none here. read more

I used Keith working out of the Duluth, GA, office for in-home physical therapy following a total knee replacement surgery. He was amazing. Keith supported me, encouraged me and assisted me in accomplishing amazing results. I would highly recommend Amedisys and Keith for in-home physical therapy. read more

The facility in Hackensack could be a better place, if they clean up some of their help.There are quite a few nurses who's services were great. We have experienced a few bad apples. This is your job, if your not happy with what you are doing, then leave. There is no need to treat people the way you do. My concern is, if this nurse is doing this to my husband, how is she treating the seniors? We spoke to the head nurse, names will be left out, shame shame on you, for what you are doing. My father unfortunately was recommended by his oncologist to enroll in Amedisys hospice. The biggest mistake I made was not to check them out. Their director of operations named Laura should never be allowed to be part of a hospice program. Their medical director was to busy to talk to me and on the day she met my father, walked in to his room for 5minutes and told me she had to run to see her other patients. I in my profession have dealt with hospice quite a bit and have always been impressed by the compassion shown by people who dedicate themselves to patients who are at the end of the line. I would avoid these people as there is no evidence of any of the humanity one would expect with a hospice organization. Shame on Amedisys in Hackensack, as there only concern is what payments they can reap off Medicare at the expense of their patients. read more

My grandmother used Amedisys in Stamford, CT following a hospitalization for in-home nursing care and physical therapy (PT), and they were wonderful! Every single person who spoke to us by phone and came to see my Grandmother in her home was courteous and respectful, professional and knowledgable, and friendly and caring. They were also very communicative about scheduling, which isn't common or easy to do when it comes to any type of in-home care. We highly recommend them! read more

There's a small handful of wonderful nurses who really care but the turnover is horrible so they will disappear. Sorry to say there are ppl working here who have no business being in health care. As far as the office goes, good luck getting supplies out of them, even for urgent care. You can call over and over; your order is lost, nobody knows what happened, "we'll find out and call you." ???? Still waiting for the call. What a shame for people who have an opportunity to really make a difference. I agree with the previous reviewer; if you aren't happy with the job, please leave and find something where no meaningful interaction is required. Only the best of the best should be in hospice care. For the patient's sake and the family's as well. If you have a loved one under their "care" please make sure there is a responsible adult present for nurse visits and to take notes and follow up. I have no problem telling them not to send Nurse X back but A) she WILL show up again and B) even if she doesn't show up she is still going to be someone else's nightmare. And I don't want the nurse who says "does she have any bedsores?" I want the nurse who looks her over and finds out herself if there is something wrong. So it can be treated!!
