She always makes sure their various jobs, renter's credits, health insurance, tuition credits, and everything else gets appropriately entered. This is our third year with Sandal and her office hours make it easy for my kids to stop by after work to sign whatever she needs. The service here is just top notch and I highly recommend this office. Even if you're a foot-dragger, as I tend to be, your taxes will be top priority to them. Something else that's helpful is they send out a Tax Prep guide at the beginning of the year with a checklist of everything you need, coupons for their services, and a big envelope to keep everything together. *** I have to add if you get a scary letter from the IRS that you underpaid your taxes and fines and penalties are now piled on, you will have a hard time getting help in the off season. Background: I'm a fairly experienced investor who never appreciated the standard wealth advisory…read morebusiness model where I'm paying a fixed percentage on my assets under management, regardless of whether they grow or shrink. Even so, as I'm moving from wealth accumulation into retirement spending, I've found that the financial strategy is much different with a number of wrinkles than can prove costly. Given my general lack of time and interest in a wide variety of activities, I finally agreed to consider contracting with an investment advisor. I visited four different agencies (two of the large brokerage firms, an independent advisor recommended by a retired pharmacist friend, and Boulay who was recommended by my wife's long-time friend. In the end, I simply found that Boulay was much more engaged, had better ideas given my situation, and went beyond the standard offering to identify additional opportunities. We are working with Molly and Nathan, who are supported by a number of investment & tax advisors, and have become comfortable with our decision to move our assets to them. In addition, their rates seem a bit more reasonable than the larger firms (and *a lot* more reasonable than the independent guy, who just rubbed me the wrong way anyway). A downside is that Boulay will not have the massive staff of a larger investment firm to handle more complex, manual-intensive strategies, but I few investors fall into that $10M+ net worth category. For the small- to upper mid-class investor/retiree Boulay is worth calling. They know their stuff, and they take the time to explain it to people, using a variety of analogies, to make sure you understand their approach and services.

As part of my divorce in 2024, I worked with Boulay for financial guidance. After my lawyer had put together a draft division of assets, I asked the Corey review the draft and provide guidance. After some time, I met with Corey and my lawyer on a short call, in which Corey displayed what appeared to be the same draft division of assets that my lawyer put together (reformatted with Boulay branding, but same content). Corey essentially read what was on the page, and said it looked good, and the call was over. Afterward, I was sent a non-itemized bill for about ~$1500. I asked for clarification on what I was being charged for, and ended up having an extremely unpleasant call with Corey. I asked that he describe what he had done to review the division of assets, and to help me understand what value I was being provided with in exchange for the bill. He became increasingly agitated, asking about my profession and suggesting that it was the reason I was "detail oriented" and asking questions. He then told me that my assets were much smaller than his other clients, and complained that this call and emailing me were taking up too much of his time. He then offered to waive the bill, with the understanding that he would withdraw from my case. Working with Corey was the most stressful and unpleasant part of my divorce. Though he didn't say it in so many words, the impression I was left with was that he thought I was not worth his time. Corey, and Boulay, are not worth your money.
