I only have high-deductable insurance. But I go to the doctor like once every two years, so its totally worth it. Today however, I was sick, and not getting better alone - I was 99% percent sure I had strep, but wasn't quite confident enough to pull random drugs out of my cupboard to cure said sickness. Enter Care Practice - super hip office in a great location. I called at 930am was in the office with an appointment at 1230 and home back in bed with meds at 115. Talk about an efficient visit! Worked with Dr. Blackledge, he did a work-up, and didn't waste my time, or money, on tests I didn't need. Best part was he had basic antibiotics and pain meds for me in office! So cool. There is not enough good things I can say about Care Practice. I originally came across them here at Yelp when I had a bad ear infection and did not have insurance as I am a musician, which is quite common in SF. I called immediately and was seen the same day within about 4 hours. Upon entering in noticed Banksy pritnts on the wall and a sleek contemporary decor. I was definitely impressed. The Doctor I saw was Dr Blackledge and his treatment was great. I really feel like he got to know my background and listened to everything I had to say about my symptoms since I have had a long history of ENT issues. I got the antibiotics I needed on the spot and payed the initial copay of $100 for a first time patient and an additional $25 for the antibiotics. I have been to Care Practice about 3 more times since the first visit and each time has been an absolutely stellar experience. They always take care of me the same day, remember who I am when I come in, and work with me to make sure that I truly become better without putting me through the difficulties of an insurance agency for doctor visits. I have been to Care Practice three times now and all visits were amazing. The staff and doctors there are all young, cool and very informative. The atmosphere is relaxed and unlike any other doctors office. I recently had been severely dehydrated by the flu, and at 5 months pregnant I was a little nervous. Mark (doctor) had brought me in. I had a check up to assess my symptoms and was sent home with advice to drink more water. I was not much better the next day, so I emailed the doctor and within minutes he replied with his phone number to call. Before I knew it, I was in the office hooked up to an I.V. and getting better. Most pleasant, efficient and affordable urgent care experience I've had to date. I've come down with strep countless times before, so whenever my throat starts showing symptoms I know exactly what I have and what type of drugs I need. I made an appointment on a Tuesday, got in to see the doctor THE VERY NEXT DAY, right on the marked time my appointment was set. Uttama Sharma was friendly, helpful, and quick. She had me in and out of the office within 20 minutes to half an hour, and I left with the antibiotics I needed in hand. She even knocked $50 off because I mentioned Yelp. You do have to pay for everything up front, but they give you the forms and information to send in to your health insurance provider to get reimbursed. Straightforward healthcare? It's about time. I had a great experience here - easy, educational, and effective. I walked in after my oral surgeon told me to "ride out" the infection I got from his botched wisdom tooth extraction. Just entering Care Practice, I felt better. The staff were interested in my issue and brainstormed with me about it as I waited. I was happy to see that among the books available for patients to read was "How Doctors Think" - a good indication that the practice prefers transparency and having patients on the same page so as to minimize mistakes. I couldn't resist enjoying all the cool artwork all over the walls, either. After a reasonable wait, I was seen and asked all the appropriate questions, my choices were clarified, and I was dispatched with a battle plan. Within a day, I was cured. Can you imagine a world where if you are sick, you can call a doctor and see them that day, when you are in fact sick, not 2 weeks from now when you are better? A world where the lobby isn't full of germ ridden furniture from the 60's? A world where the receptionist is KNOWLEDGEABLE and cordial, dare I say FRIENDLY? A world where the doctor looks you in the eye, talks to you and actually listens to your issue without 1 hand on the door to leave? Neither could I until I tried Care Practice. I have to admit that I'm a hospital snob. I expected that a small practice in the Mission was going to be one step up from a war zone. But my desire to save me a trip going cross town to wait at an Urgent care got the better of me. I was WOW'd by the level of service and attention that I received from this place. I also got my prescription filled for less than I would pay at the pharmacy. I did not have to wait in the waiting room. The man at the front desk was efficient, helpful about how to handle payment and even good looking. I had a great conversation with the doctor, not just about my immediate health issue, but my general health and life. The only con that some might see is that you have to pay for the service upfront and deal with the paperwork to get reimbursed by your insurance company. However, I have done that in the past and it's very simple. In fact, I'd rather spend the 15 minutes at home to mail in a form then spend all the extra time calling my doctor, leaving a message, hoping that someone calls me back, driving across town, only to be treated rudely then having to go to a pharmacy to get a prescription when I feel like crap. Just got back from 5 hours at Care Practice and although I'm exhausted from the medical ordeal I could not be more happy we went to this facility. My boyfriend and I went to the Russian River last weekend, and he came home with some kind of terrible flu/bug/food poisoning/giardia-type sickness. I'll skip the terrible details, but just know I've never seen anyone throw up so much in a 24 hour period in my life. His fever was 100+ for 24 hours, he was in pain all over, couldn't keep down a drop of liquid, etc. The receptionist could sense my urgency on the phone and squeezed him in for an appointment, which was so critical and we really appreciated. If my boyfriend hadn't been able to get in, we would've gone to the ER and that would've been a financial and emotional nightmare compared to Care Practice's lovely environment and reasonable costs. He saw Dr. Ngo, who was very relaxed but professional and knowledgable. I felt totally comfortable with him and he asked the right questions. I could tell he was looking at the situation holistically, being sure he really understood my boyfriend's habits and lifestyle. Dr. Ngo didn't just immediately jump the gun on "this is what's wrong"; he swiftly investigated on multiple levels before he diagnosed him. My boyfriend ended up being strapped to an IV for four hours, poor guy. :( While I was waiting around -- by my boyfriend's side, a step outside to make a call, a quick lunch break -- all the staff members were friendly and courteous. When checking out, the receptionist (I wish I caught her name) was wonderful, a real pleasure! She was so genuine and sincerely wanted to know if my boyfriend and I were doing okay. She also called a cab for us and followed up when the typical SF-always-running-so-freakin-late-cab didn't arrive soon. Dr. Ngo gave me very clear and precise follow up instructions as to how to tell when my man is doing better versus when he is doing worse. It could've been overwhelming, but he tried to make some potential complicated instructions and symptoms easy to remember. I feel so much more comfortable now empowered with this vital information. The cost for what we got was totally reasonable (yes, it was in the hundredsss of dollars but less than a thousand and if we'd gone to the ER it would've easily been $1000+). This is the second time I've gone to Care Practice, and again I was blown away. Having recently moved to San Francisco, finding a group of doctors at an affordable rate without insurance was a blessing, especially after getting an eye infection.I called in the morning and had an appointment scheduled for that same day. The facilities are very comfortable and hip. The staff are amazingly nice and the Doctors answer every question I have. I would hands down always recommend these guys. I called about getting a travel vaccination for my girlfriend, and I was quoted a price for the drug which seemed quite reasonable. I was told that there would be a consultation fee in addition. I told them that we knew exactly what we needed, and that if it were possible to just get the drug without the consultation. I was told that wouldn't be a problem. The following week, I called and made an appointment for the same day. When I made the appointment, I explained my conversation from the week before, and after a little back and forth, told them the quote I received. So later that day, my girlfriend goes into exam room with the doctor, and I was called in two minutes later to give the doctor our travel itinerary (as per his request). He gave her the pills we requested, and also gave us a precautionary prescription of something else, free of charge. The receptionist tried to charge us twice the fee that I was quoted over the phone. Apparently they were tacking on a consultation fee. Apparently, despite not needing a consultation, we were given one. I explained to the receptionist that we didn't need a consultation, and that the fee should have been for the drugs only, just as we discussed when I made the appointment. She said that the doctor instructed her the amount to bill us, and the doctor was already in the exam room seeing another patient. I would have put up more of a stink, but since the doctor was nice enough to give us a free precautionary prescription (which we really didn't need), I decided not to fight it. In addition, my meter was expiring and I didn't think it was worth the risk of getting a $55 ticket. We had actually considered another travel clinic that quoted a price that was slightly above what we were quoted by Care Practice, but considerably less than what we were charged by Care Practice. Both were equally convenient, so we based our decision on price. Wrong decision... If Care Practice charged me the quoted amount, I would have given 5 stars. They get a generous three for accepting same day appointments and having a friendly doctor. read more

I had a great experience with Care Practice. If you have health insurance or if you need a quick appointment, they seem like a really great place to get urgent care. I was really impressed with Dr. Ngo. He helped me with not only western medicine, but also recommended some coconut oil for my sore throat/cough which helped a bit. Even her voice was pleasant. No mind-numbing "Press 3 if..." recordings here! 2) I got a same-day appointment on a Saturday afternoon, right then and there, NO PROBLEM. They even gave me tons of options for what time I could come in that day. (Note: It's a bit cheaper if you come in on a weekday instead of a weekend, if you have the flexibility.) 3) They laid out their basic costs on the phone up front! No guessing! I ended up paying about $200 total with my (professional, friendly, yet amazingly non-rushed) exam + my antibiotics, as well as three supplemetal antiviral formulas Dr. Ngo* recommended as being totally optional, which I went for. Exactly what I expected to pay going in, no surprises, no wondering! Tempted to go with 3 stars average based on a four-star idiot. Two experiences detailed below. Anyway, I love that they're open on weekends, though to charge an extra fee for the service is aggravating. It's a bit frustrating to have to pay out of pocket not knowing if your insurance will reimburse you. That said, I was able to schedule an appointment for the same day (Saturday) that I called. The receptionist was very friendly. The appointment started a bit late, but when has a doctor's appointment ever started on time? I saw Dr. Carolyn Cooper and she was very friendly and helpful. I went in because I had an infection in my lip. I'd managed to get a prescription for Amoxicillin (broad-spectrum antibiotic) over the holiday but it wasn't helping much; she gave me a script for Clindomycin (a more specific antibiotic, and in a much higher dosage) as well as a topical anesthetic, and advised me to take Advil for the fever I hadn't realized I had. Oh, and the waiting area and overall facility is really nice, too. Now, the annoying thing. It being a huge holiday weekend and all, and my sister visiting from across the pond, I'd bounced a bit between San Francsico and my mom's house a hundred miles away, accidentally leaving my antibiotics at my mom's house when I came back up to the city for good. So I called as soon as I figured it out to see if they could just call in the prescription again to the same Safeway. A guy answered the phone, different from the nice girl who'd been there on Saturday. I knew exactly what I'd been prescribed and the dosage. I told the receptionist that I'd taken 7 of 28 pills. "So you need 14, then?" "No, I need 21." (Because, you know, 28 - 7 = 21. This is not rocket science.) I asked that it be called into the Safeway that's very close by, where it'd been sent before. So about an hour later, I arrive at Safeway. My prescription is not there. Both the pharmacy and I try to call the clinic, and we find that the idiot had it called into Walgreen's, which sounds nothing like "Safeway." I have to get back in line and clarify that the mix-up has been sorted out. Then I have to wait for them to actually put it together, of course, and go in line again to pick it up. A pill pickup that should've taken less than 5 minutes stretched out to probably half an hour. Because the idiot who can't subtract 7 from 28 also can't hear the correct name of a pharmacy. Anyway, the actual doctors seem to know what they're doing, and the first girl at the desk (Janet, I think) was quite nice and helpful. If my insurance goes through I'll definitely be back. As an urgent care solution, they worked well, assuaging my fears and hooking me up quickly (the first time, anyway) with an appropriate prescription. read more

I visited Care Practice today for the second time. My first visit was over a year ago and I left feeling as though it was an average visit. However, today's visit was more than I could have asked for. The problem I thought I had turned out to be something a little more severe and humiliating. I saw Dr. Ngo and although the procedure was painful and uncomfortable, I feel so much better. I had been in so much pain the last couple of days that as soon as he explained what was wrong I burst into tears. He was kind enough to ask the receptionist to come in for moral support. She was very kind and did her best to distract me with conversation. I do not know how to spell her name, but you know who you are. Thank you both! I left with medication in hand and paid a fair bill that was much easier on my bank account than a trip to the ER. I am thrilled this practice exists. Being the klutz that I am, I found myself one morning with a very non functional and painful lower back. I could barely sit up let alone walk. Crawling to my phone, I do what would be expected, check Yelp for a doctor. I will be honest, it's been about 10-15 years since I have seen a doctor so I really didn't know what to expect except that I needed something now! I was amazed you could schedule online (they were closed at the time I was crawling on the floor) so that's what I did. Only problem was that I would have to wait until the afternoon (this place is popular so book an apt asap). I load myself up with a hefty amount of ibuprofen, head over to Care Practice, and was greeted by the super friendly receptionist, Nicole I believe. I was offered a seat and a couch to lay down on but seeing that it took me most of the day just to stand I thought I would take my chances just standing against the wall in silence. As soon as I saw the doc he was like, looks like it's your back since you are standing and can walk no faster than a turtle. He pressed on my spine a bit and pretty much broke it down to me pretty simple. I would just have to wait it out. He prescribed me some meds that they had stocked on the premises, much appreciated since I didn't want to go to a pharmacy after this too. Then came the part of payment. I had no clue how this worked. Like I said, I never in my adult life had to go to a doctor so when they asked me how I wanted to pay I was like ... um I think I have insurance :) Unfortunately they don't do things like that. But they filled out a form that they gave to me to call my insurance company with. I can understand that. But it was a little weird. So long story short you have to pay upfront and then get reimbursed later by your insurance. Overall great experience. I know it sounds stupid, but because the recommendations were just, wait it out, I was a little disappointed, since I was planning on doing that anyways. The meds that were prescribed did help considerably with the pain thankfully so I guess that is something. We'll see if I return, hopefully not and I can go another 10-15 years without a doc again. read more

I had such a positive experience here today. I am in San Francisco from out of town and also in a gap month between jobs and insurance. A hematoma from 3 months ago suddenly became very infected while I was here and I was in a total panic about going to an UR/Urgent Care in a city I'm not familiar with without health insurance. I was able to make an appointment within half an hour and be seen within the hour and left feeling taken care of and really relieved. I enjoyed the transparency of costs and it was so much more affordable than other care options. read more

Well, I had an eyelid swelling (non-stye nor chalzion) and was heading out of town on Monday to visit my mom. The dermatologist Friday afternoon, kicked it the eye doctor. The optometrist couldn't drain it on Saturday. So, after work late Sat. night, I scheduled a 11 am appt for Sunday, I arrived promptly. BTW, parking is tight Sundays because of the huge line for Mission Beach Cafe brunch. The 'Russian model' receptionist handed me the paperwork. Another guy was already sitting there, obviously with a cold of some sort. After thanking me for returning it; I was ignored for the next hour. When I finally asked what was the situation; she replied, the doctor will be here shortly. After another fifteen minutes, and, again after my asking, she said he was five minutes away. Dr. Ngo breezed in five minutes later and apologized for keeping us waiting- eighty minutes!!!! He handled the first patient in about twenty minutes and after the history and eye exam, offered me a sample of Keflex or an Rx. I have insurance, so chose the Rx and actually had no co-pay, so I saved $20. I mentioned about my perceived issue of poor receptionist relations and he said he'd speak to her about it. Never was explained if there was car problems, a home visit, he overslept or what. He did take off the weekend surcharge to assuage me and that was appreciated. The office was clean, though not fully lit up as it was a Sunday, so when using the restroom, it felt strange walking into a deserted space. So, we'll see if the antibiotic does the job. I ran into an internist doctor friend later in the day and he looked at it and suggested I also put some o.t.c. cortisone ointment on the bump, which was not mentioned by Dr. Ngo. So, I am reserving more stars for future use, as I would go back, if needed! read more

This review has been a long time in the making. I cannot recommend Care Practice enough to people! They make the worst times of your life (ie: sick, injured, bleeding) so much more bearable. The doctors are very friendly and extremely helpful. They take their time while in the exam room and will answer any questions you have. The waiting room is nicely decorated with many things to take my mind off my body and how its been hijacked by Strep Throat again. Everytime I call in, I get a same day appointment too! Its extremely fair on the wallet as well. I dont have insurance and for an emergency, same day visit I was wholey impressed with their pricing. Ive been back everytime I've been ill. They also work with most insurance companies for the lucky few that have it. Oh and a total bonus is they not only prescribe medication, they give it to you right there on the spot! So instead of the regular doctor visit and then the phramacy visit, its a one stop fix. You cant beat that. read more

I highly recommend Care Practice. I've been using this practice for many years both for regular medical care and for urgent care. The rates are very reasonable given the high quality care of the doctors and the availability to go in on weekends and within the same day for urgent matters. They do not bill insurance, but they will give you a detailed receipt to submit to your insurance directly. When I had my previous insurance, my insurance covered 80% of the appointment fee. My new insurance has a high deductible, so my appointment fees won't be reimbursed, but I can submit my receipts from my appointments at Care Practice to go towards the deductible. The Mission location is great. It's a fifteen minute walk from my home. Today, I was able to schedule an appointment online when I woke up with worsening cough and sinus symptoms. I was seen on a Sunday, no waiting, and had a thorough exam and treatment plan. This is a great example of the reason I recommend Care Practice. They really do live up to their name by providing high quality healthcare. read more

I came here because I had a well-paying gig, but hadn't held it long enough to get myself any health insurance. Fortunately for me, I'm pretty healthy and almost never need care but this was one of those situations where you HAVE to see a doctor ASAP. I belong to Healthy San Francisco, but it would have taken me a whole day (or longer) waiting for the doctor and then again across town at SF General for my prescription. I poked around on the internet for a while before coming to Yelp and finding this place. It was either them or The House Doctor (as far as I can tell the two are comparable). I chose Care Practice because of its location - it's near BART and walking distance from my gym. I called at 10am and received an appointment for the very same day. The doctor took his time with me and gave me some antibiotics and a palliative, which was what I needed. The waiting room is comparable to any other upscale service in the city - comfortable and tastefully decorated. The Yelp offer offsets the $50 new customer fee and I didn't have to push to get it. Total cost: $140, which is very reasonable considering it could have cost me five times that to miss work. (The gig didn't last long and of course there was no paid sick leave.) I highly recommend this service to anyone. Even after I get health insurance, I will probably use it sometimes just because the experience is so civilized. The only negative was it took them almost an hour to see me. I don't know what happened or if this is normal. read more

I can't speak highly enough about this place. A few months ago, I needed urgent care, which as you may know, is not a very speedy process for the uninsured. This is not the doc-in-a-box medical clinic that I was expecting when I made an appointment with them. It was, from start to finish, a great experience. First, I was able to be seen immediately. Literally immediately, though it took me about 30 minutes to get there. Second, the waiting room was clean and comfortable, and the receptionist was very pleasant. Third, I didn't even have to wait in the nice waiting room. This, I believe, was the first time in my life that I have had a medical appointment start on time. Fourth and mainly, Dr. Ngo was was extremely caring and professional, took time to talk to me about my situation and explain things to me fully without seeming rushed or distracted in the least. This also might be the first time I have experienced an unrushed and undistracted doctor. (And the first time in years that I haven't been forced to take a pregnancy test at a doctor's office. oh the joys of university health clinics.) Fifth and lastly, my bill was only $145. A super deal for such great service. Reading their fees, I see that established patient visits start at $95. Being used to a 40-50 dollar co-pay when I was insured, I think that even after I have insurance again I will consider continuing to use Care Practice as my primary care provider. read more

I chose Care Practice based on its Yelp reviews, and now I understand why it has been so highly praised. They don't take insurance, but with the Yelp discount, it was very affordable health-care (much more affordable than my terrible insurance anyway.) I hurt my wrist and was having trouble with pain and motion, so I made an appointment for a next-day visit. I didn't wait very long in the waiting room (which was clean and more hip than your typical urgent care - great art!) before the Dr. came out to get me. Dr. Alex Zaphiris spent time looking at my wrist/hand/arm, asking me questions. I didn't feel rushed, and I actually felt like she cared. She was very quiet, but very friendly and very knowledgable. She sent me to Radnet (California St.) to get x-rays (also more affordable than your typical big-time hospital) and two days later I got a follow-up call from Care Practice saying I had fractured my wrist. Dr. Alex Zaphiris then made me a temporary splint and set me up with an orthopedic. I was also able to email her when I had questions regarding the Ortho - she got back to me the same day (really brief response, but it answered my question - which is more than I can say for a lot of Doctors with as busy of a schedule as hers.) I went to Care Practice today for a physical exam and to get a festering lip wound checked out. I'd been there once before to treat a urinary tract infection and had a good experience. This time, I was seen by Dr. Uttama Sharma, who was nice and efficient. It turned out that I just had a massive canker sore and not the bacterial infection I suspected. The visit cost me $243 pre-insurance. I can't say I'm pleased about the cost, but I guess it's standard and there was no way around it. So I had to come back for the second time in less than one week (separate medical problem). It was painless. In and out pretty quickly. I got antibiotics for a fever and cough I've been having for almost a week. My usual doctor wasn't available so I went with the "no preference" option and got the founder of Care Practice. He is straight up and says what is on his mind. He even made fun of the logo on my shirt. I could tell you what logo it is but I work for the company and I want to keep my job. He quickly took my temp and realized I needed antibiotics. I was thinking about waiting a few more days to see if my fever got better, but I know by now better safe than sorry. I was able to get antibiotics and cough medicine on site so no extra trip to the pharmacy. I love that I can make an appointment one day and then get in the next day. When I fell off my bike over the weekend and needed stitches, I called my doctor's office - of course they were closed, but the answering service said they'd page the doctor on call, and he/she would call me back. I decided on a backup plan in case I had to wait a while for that call, so I called Care Practice, and Dr. Blackledge was sewing my knee shut about an hour after I talked to him on the phone. Plus, when we were done, he filled out all the relevant info for my insurance claim, giving me a few tips on how to get reimbursement from them. I never thought of going to Yelp to look for urgent care, but when my wife cut her finger really badly this morning I needed help right away. My first thought was no way were we going to sit in an emergency room for a couple of hours. I then went to Google and the first search result dropped me at sfoncall down on Post st. When I called they were a bit rude and said that it was at least four hours before I could get in. The second result came up with a Yelp posting for Aaron's office. That's when I realized things were different. Super nice guy on the phone, said no worries come in and the doctor would be available. The office is totally cool.. very soothing, not like a doctor's office, but maybe more like an Aveda salon. Immediately got my wife in to see the doc, and about 30 mins later she was all stitched up. I went to CP because I don't have insurance and was looking to make a short notice appointment. CP gave me a great time for the next day, and even a $50 discount by mentioning Yelp. Walking in, it is nicer than any doctor's office I've been to before, but the vibe was not stiff by any means. Banksy art was hung on the walls, which I appreciate. Anyway, I saw Dr. Andrew Brandeis for some foot trouble. Dude was super cool, very friendly, easy going, and relatable. He really took the time to heat what was going on and made me a nice list of things to do. Best doctor experience of my life. Already recommended it to a bunch of friends. Thanks!! read more

VERY VERY shady operation! I saw Dr. Blackledge, and my actual appointment with him was fine. However, he recommended several medications and supplements to me. When I got to the front desk to pay my bill, the total was very high, so I decided to leave out the supplements. The receptionist Nicki (sp?) refused to remove the supplements from the total. She kept insisting that the price of the supplements had been rolled into the total of the visit by the doctor and she couldn't remove the items. She said I'd have to speak to the doctor to reprice the total bill. But since the doctor was already with another patient I'd have to wait 45 minutes. I was in a hurry and desperately trying to work something out with Nicki, but I have never met a more apathetic person in my life. She clearly didn't care about providing me any level of customer service and ignored me while I was standing right in front of her. In the middle of this whole nightmare, she randomly accused me of using her desk phone to make a personal call (what?). As I had no choice but to wait for the doctor or pay the ridiculous bill, I waited to speak with the doctor. At first he suggested I leave things as-is since my insurance company would pay. But after I explained that they are out of network and I have a deductible, he agreed to remove the supplements from the bill. However, the process of repricing was ridiculous. He stood there for a few minutes thinking about how much to reduce the price. He had clearly made up the supplement prices. According to the price labels on the bottles, he should have reduced my bill by $82, but he only gave me back $70. They also failed to give me an itemized receipt. Even though Dr. Blackledge himself was nice, the entire pricing and payment debacle combined with the receptionist's rude and dismissive behavior simply left me feeling ripped off. Save yourself the headache (and money) and take your business to a more professional clinic. read more

Mainly good, but I have a few concerns. The good: 1. I got a same day appointment and approximately $240 later, I walked out with what I wanted (an antibiotic for possible bacterial infection). 2. Dr. Ngo seemed nice, knowledgeable and responded to my requests. The bad: 1. I asked for the yelp discount on the phone and was quoted a price range. When I asked about it again after my appointment, the receptionist rewrote the bill and raised the price of the visit (so the discount was a scam). 2. I waited about 15 minutes (late) for my appointment (I watched the Dr. walk OUT of the clinic to go get lunch while I was waiting). 3. Felt a bit over charged for appointment time (but hey, maybe I was grumpy because I was so sick). Dr. Ngo suggested possible antibiotic, a homeopathic/herbal remedy and cough syrup. He seemed OK when I turned down the homeopathic medicine and changed my mind a couple times on the cough syrup. After that it felt like he was filling time with the appointment. I know I left feeling I got over charged for such a long appointment I didn't think I needed (but, hey, maybe I really was just sick and grumpy). I had a really great experience with Care Practice today. I called at 11:00 AM on a Saturday, had an appointment at 12:30 PM and was done and out by 1:00 PM. This all happend after I'd spent an hour on my insurance company's website calling every doctor trying to see who was open on Saturdays (answer - no one). This place is a real breath of fresh air. When I made the appointment I was concerned about what I'd just signed up for, but the office was very nice, the doctor was great, I was one of only two patients there, and I was seen immediately. Shameful! have never been treated with such disrespect. To put things into perspective let me start by saying that I am an MD. I have 13 years of medical training and have been practicing for 12 years. I thought I had seen it all until I went to care practice. I went there for a very personable matter that I did not want on my own personal medical records where I work. I was seen by Dr. Vinh Ngo. I thought it might be better to not mention my background. What a surprise. I was given five minutes, thrown a prescription and then hustled to buy into their testosterone hormone replacement service. I have never been treated so rudely and with such disrespect. I was billed for a level 5 visit. The definition of a level 5 visit is spending at least 60 minutes with the patient. Foe example a seeing a new cancer patient may warrant a level 5 visit. OK maybe he was having a bad day. We all do. Maybe the fact that they don't take insurance makes it OK to fraudulently code medical services. Here's the juicy part. I called and asked for my medical records. The very nice receptionist just sent them over in a stamped envelope without asking me to sign a release! Get it! If you wanted to, you could just call them and ask for my medical records and they would send them to you! Patients have to sign a release before their medical records are released to any one. Don't stop reading. It gets better. I looked over my medical records and the whole thing was made up. It gave an entire physical examination. Dr Ngo didn't touch me. He just made the hole thing up. It said I don't take any medications even though I was there for a prescription and, unfortunately, am on five medications. When I read that I was not sure if I should turn to the California medical board or just just mention it online. Well here I am. I chose the latter. Dr Ngo, you may say thank you. Dr Ngo. Reasonable rates? How can it be reasonable rates when they advertise introductory rates, and then jack up the price when you to go the receptionist to pay? Their website says "New patient visits start at $155 for Urgent Car3e" Right. So I'm a new patient. I go in on a weekday to see a doctor for a cold / cough I've had for a week, with fever, sore throat, nasal congestion, suspecting that I might have a sinus infection. The doctor prescribed antibiotics, suggested Neti Pot, Sudafed, and taking pro biotics with the antibiotic, which I appreciated. I finish my appointment, go to the receptionist, and am told the bill is $240. I had already asked about fees when I arrived, and the woman at the desk gave me a snippy answer "It depends on the complexity of your visit." When I told her what the website said, she cut me short. So, I brought it up again when she presented the bill. She got snippy again, with attitude and clearly was not going to discuss it. I felt a Yelp review coming on. I won't be going back. I was in a hurry to see a doctor same day, but was not impressed with this place at all. After struggling with a 2 year oxycontin addiction I had finally decided that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I'd heard about Suboxone as a treatment for getting off pills but I imagined having to go to some scary clinic where I'd be surrounded by scary people and treated like a number and not a person. Luckily, I yelped "Suboxone" and the *one* result I got was Care Practice. I called to make an appointment and although they were willing to get me ASAP, I opted to wait a couple days to cut off some loose ends and really work up the courage. Their website was professional and the person over the phone was very nice, but I was still nervous. I was afraid of being judged, or told I'm not sick enough to need help. And I'd read online that this prescription can be pretty expensive. The day of my appointment came and I was already feeling a little ill. Dr. Vinh called me in and we chatted, casually, about my problem: what I used, how much, how often, why I wanted to stop, etc. He was really easy going and not judgmental at all and I no longer felt nervous... about the visit that is. Getting sober was still scary. He wrote me a prescription for Suboxone based on how many we thought I should take and how many I could afford, with the plan for me to return in a month for a lower dose and status update. I've since been back twice, been to meetings (per Dr. Vinh's suggestion) and wow are things different! I'm awake again! If my only option were to go to a clinic I would either never have gone or I would have probably had to pay out the rear for medication. Suboxone is affordable. Care Practice is comfortable and respectful. Care Practice is affordable. And Suboxone works. read more
