It was a slow recovery for my mom, because she stopped caring to get better, after surgery and hospital stay. The staff at the facility were caring and supportive during my mom's stay. They took the time to understand her needs and treatments and were also helpful providing advice and support throughout her recovery process. My mom also had an issue where the date came where she was being discharged and the facility she previously lived would not take her back because they expected a hospital bed to be delivered and there was no need for her to have a hospital bed, because she was successful in getting out of her bed with PT and OT and she did not have a medical need for a hospital bed. This discharge experience became havoc for myself and my mother to locate a new place for mom at the last minute and North Park Case Manager along with my mother's Insurance Case Manager quickly resolved the issue and handled this problem immediately and resolved the issue and my mom's discharge and transport was a better experience to move mom to her new home." - Betty

I wish I could give ZERO stars…read more Our family's experience with North Park has been deeply disturbing. My father-in-law was admitted on September 9 able to walk, eat, drink, communicate, and carry on normal conversations. Within days, we watched him deteriorate dramatically. By Tuesday, he was chewing food and spitting it back out. By Wednesday, he looked extremely weak, noticeably thinner, confused, and "out of it." My husband immediately told staff that something was seriously wrong. HE was the one who raised the concern that his father appeared dehydrated and pushed them to give him IV fluids. When they first attempted the IV, they could not obtain access because he was already so dehydrated and had to call another team to obtain IV access. Despite his continued deterioration, he remained there. The lack of communication was unbelievable. NORTH PARK NEVER CALLED MY HUSBAND. NOT EVEN ONE TIME. My husband called THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY to find out how his father was doing. Getting an answer was a daily battle. He often had to call two or three times, sometimes more. The phone would ring and ring. He would be told to leave a message and that somebody would call him back. Nobody ever called him back. So he would keep calling until someone finally answered and gave him a brief update. This happened day after day. Meanwhile, my mother-in-law was physically at North Park EVERY DAY for approximately 5-6 hours and witnessed much of his decline firsthand. On Thursday and Friday, my husband repeatedly told North Park that his father was having serious difficulty swallowing. He specifically explained that it seemed as though his swallowing muscles were no longer working properly. We were told about speech therapy and were still being told to try to get him to eat. But this was not simply someone who did not feel like eating. We were watching a man who had been eating and drinking normally progressively lose the ability to swallow. By Saturday, he could no longer swallow even WATER. Saturday morning, my husband once again called North Park himself for an update. That morning he said he had had enough and told them he wanted his father OUT of North Park and sent to the hospital. ONLY AFTER my husband demanded the hospital transfer did a CNA speak with him on behalf of Dr. Hassan. My husband NEVER spoke directly with Dr. Hassan. Through the CNA, my husband was told they wanted to continue caring for his father at North Park, run additional tests, and obtain a chest X-ray. My husband strongly disagreed. He repeatedly explained that his father had been declining extremely rapidly and needed hospital-level care. The conversation became a heated verbal argument because my husband was demanding that his father be transferred. He insisted on the hospital transfer. I want to make this very clear: my father-in-law did NOT end up at the hospital because North Park suddenly recognized how seriously ill he was and proactively decided to transfer him. MY HUSBAND PUSHED FOR THE HOSPITAL TRANSFER. Once he arrived at the hospital, doctors found SEVERE DEHYDRATION, an infection/colitis, and BLOOD CLOTS IN HIS LUNGS. The hospital physician told my husband that his father was "very, very ill." Our family had been raising concerns for DAYS. If you have a loved one at this facility, please visit frequently. Call. Follow up. Write down names and dates. Document conversations. Do not assume someone will call you back simply because they tell you they will. Most importantly, KEEP ADVOCATING when something does not look right.

They never gave her fluids and she was extremely dehydrated which caused constipation! No help! After she died they recommended the worst mortuary ever! She was to be cremated and it took weeks to accomplish and their location was extremely inconvenient to the family! I voice my concerns on their website and they never even bothered to respond! It appears they are all about the money. Although I cannot prove this it appears they obviously get referral fees. They obviously never researched to see if the businesses they recommend are reputable! If you have a loved one in crisis DONOT go to Hospice of the Valley!

Danielle was especially attentive to our family's needs. The private room was comfortable, clean, and climate controlled, with access to the sunlight outside and a chair comfortable to sleep in. Best of all there were no restrictions. We could visit any time. We even brought in my family member's derpy cat that doesn't blink. He's on the catism spectrum. The lobby is a bit small and dated with a strangely-placed TV, but at least it's cozy, with wifi, plus they have free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and water. No waffle iron yet. If you need anything else, a giant market is just steps away. I highly recommend this location, even though they don't have returning clients.

The staff works with each person depending on their needs as to how long your sessions last. I am a meat & potato person so I had to learn how to eat healthy food. One more piece of advice: stay away from Banner Rehab Hospital. It is best described as a prison, Zero being with any other people, you eat in your room alone, company is in your room, pets are in your room only.; enough said.

I notified his nurse about right lower quadrant redness on a Sunday evening at 7:15pm. Blood work and X-rays weren't done until the next day. He was sent to the ER the next day at 1:30pm. In my perspective it was neglect from the nurse. CNA's were not doing oral care for my father three times per day as ordered. His mouth was filled with gunk when he was admitted into ICU he had a swallowing exam it was awful.

On a Saturday, I went to visit my mother and found her in the middle of a medical emergency. We…read morecalled 911, and she was taken to the local E.R. The diagnosis was brain cancer, and it had metastasized to her skull, lymph nodes, and bones. We made the decision to place her in palliative care. After a night in the hospital, my mom was transferred to Ryan House. She was treated with the utmost care immediately. She was made comfortable, beautiful, and treated in the most dignified manner. It meant a lot to me to see that she had such great people taking care of her.  Our family needs were attended to. Whatever questions we had, checking in on us, whatever we needed. They made the process as easy as they could. They were very kind and sweet to my father and I.    Mom ultimately passed away on Wednesday.    I just can't say enough good things about the nursing staff. They truly are amazing people.    Your family is in great hands with them.

When our beloved uncle was no longer making progress at his rehab hospital it was time for him to…read morereturn home.  For him, home was an assisted living apt, and to do this he needed medical oversight. At 94 yrs old, after a small stroke, he had developed the "dwindles." He was no longer able to care for himself, and he'd lost his appetite, although he was not diagnosed with a terminal illness, these reasons allowed him to be referred to hospice.  Our family feel fortunate that we were referred to Hospice of the West. As all our family lived out of state their oversight was invaluable. To coordinate his care needs, they even facilitated a meeting between themselves (including his Case Manager, RN, & Social Worker), my uncle and myself, and his assisted living facility nursing director. With their guidance we decided to hire a sitter from another agency to keep him company and be an advocate as family were so far away. As his Durable Power of Health Care I had direct contact with all agencies participating in his care.  Hospice of the West provided me with timely updates on his condition from both the nurses and social worker, and coordinated with the care facility for his medications and safety needs.  I was very impressed by the continuity provided by the relief nurses and weekend coverage. Care issues were identified timely and resolved. Their interactions with me were professional, compassionate, and experienced in an area many families have no knowledge. I was able to be with my uncle several days before he died. I observed first hand the encounters with bath aides, nurses, and his social worker. All treated him with respect and valued him as a person. He enjoyed them all. I honestly cannot thank them enough! .
