It may be summer to the Scottish folks, but to this Florida girl, my teeth were chattering. That breeze off the loch was numbingly cold. We walked around for a good bit, reaching the waters edge, to touch the coolness and watch the bots on the waves. It was a peaceful time of day. Not too many folks out yet, but you could tell (it was a holiday weekend) that they'd be out in force soon. Kayaks and boats, water sports equipment is all for hire, this place is absolutely gorgeous.

Took the boat from Inverness for return trip to Fort William - 30 years ag (1990/1991). Great experience - without any E-... . Today I am cycling an E-MTB:.. To take a rest we stopped in Fort William for 2 days - but did not rest... I a booklet we rent from university "Mountainbiking in the Scottish Highlands" a tour was described around Ben Nevis. (unfortunately at this time my English has had much room for improvements..... and I did not understand the rating "challening"...... Well, we started at 9 and arrived the West Highland was at 6pm, followed the West Highland way to Fort William and arrived in Fort William at 9pm. the B&B lady was so friendly (and afraid about her house.......) and offered us to wash and cleand our stuff - if we would leave it outside.......... It was really a very nice lady. we have had very good experience with Scottish. On the ouder hebridies we recognized that we needed a post office to collect some money - but unfortunately the only one was located north of the mountains on Lewis or Harris - dont remember which one is the northern one - and a postbus driver invited us to join him on his car and trip to Stokinish. It was such a nice experinece "bloody old English ...." 500times during the 2 hours trip. In the evenig he invited us to join us at legioneers Pub / Club. It was so nice. If I would find some power for the E I would do it again....... Great country, people, weather........(:...).

A gorgeous, remote beach - perhaps the most beautiful on the Isle of Bute, about 3 miles west of…read moreRothesay on the opposite coastline. The beach is a mixture of sand and shingle and stretches for over a mile. There are marvellous views on a clear day towards Arran and Kintyre. The seasonal tour bus will drop you off here beside a wonderful cafe - the Ettrick Bay Tearoom (definitely not to be missed!) and you can have a meal, walk along the beach and pick up a later bus to take you back to Rothesay. If you have the car with you there is a large car park beside the cafe. Nearby is the ancient Colmac stone circle.

This is a small, fairly shallow bay around 300 metres in length and found at the south end of Largs…read morenot far from the Pencil Monument, hence the name. There's plenty of gorgeous soft sand and it's a lovely place to spend some time relaxing on a warm summer's afternoon (as I did today!) It has been considered a safe bathing area since 2006 and, in 2009, the beach won the Keep Scotland Beautiful Seaside Award. This means that there are excellent litter management policies in place, very good bathing water quality, and information boards beside the beach. There's no lifeguard and parking might be a bit tricky. The best thing is probably to walk from the town centre, which isn't far away. Otherwise the parking facilities at the Marina nearby might be the best bet (there's a cafe there too).

A pleasant and tranquil little beach where I hadn't been for years until recently when I had a walk…read morethere. It's very easy to miss (when driving past on the main road) but found by turning off the A78 at the War Memorial in Fairlie village a few miles south of Largs. There's a mixture of sand, shingle and rocks on the beach itself. There's a free car park at the end of Pier Road quite close to the water and public toilets nearby. There's no lifeguard. I've no idea of the quality of the water for swimming but it's a nice place to take a stroll and appreciate the views of the Clyde.

First-Hand Experience: I come to Cathkin Park every single time I am in Glasgow. I didn't know about it the first few times, but the last dozen or so times, I always come here. It's haunted, it's beautiful, it's serene, it's peaceful, and there are ghosts playing soccer here... at least in my mind. I can feel them. I'll continue coming to Cathkin as a pilgrimage every time I visit Scotland's largest city. This lovely park in South Glasgow is actually a legendary and haunted place. It's haunted by the ghosts of the stadium that once stood here. It still has football pitches, but once it was known as Hampden Park (the second of three places to be named this, although the third is, um, much larger and more famous). It was Hampden when Queen's Park played here until 1903, and then it was given to Third Lanark, a team which ceased to exist in 1967 and never reformed. After that it was abandoned, under the name New Cathkin Park, and became the park we see today. If you visit this place you can still see the terraces from where the stadium once stood. Barely noticeable, but they are there, in the park, to remind you that once upon a time, the British League Cup Final was played here, and Scotland had faced England here in the first all ticket match in the world in 1884. Third Lanark have reformed as an amateur team and still play in this park, as do Hampden AFC. Third Lanark AC are too old and dead for me to make a Yelp page for them, but they once finished 3rd in the Scottish League in the 60s, they were founded in 1872, they won the Scottish League in 1904, and the Scottish Cup in 1889 and 1905 as well as the Scottish League Cup in 1960. They will be missed by all of Glasgow. Come and see this park... it's haunted by football ghosts, aye.

It's just off the A770 and easy to find. Part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and looked after by their staff. You can follow the coastal path from here to Inverkip which is a nice walk.

Luss Pier is located in the beautiful village of Luss in Scotland. The pier is not much in and of…read moreitself. It is a cool spot to view Loch Lomond and surrounding mountains. On your way to pier, you walk through the pretty village of Luss. Make sure to check out the shops, charming church, and the quaint stone cottage homes along your walk to the pier. From the pier, you can catch cruise and waterbus services which explore the islands of Loch Lomond. There is also a long beach to stroll along. Just a cool place to visit for a couple hours or the entire day. Want to explore more? Plenty of hiking trails abound nearby Luss Pier. Enjoy!!

Besides the beautiful village there's the Loch Lomond. A wonderful lake, great on sunny days but even more atmospheric on cloudy or even rainy days. And here from the Pier you get a great view. On the right there's a small Promenade with a bunch of benches and to the left there the beach with some BBQ spots close to the carpark. It's a pretty small village. Takes a few minutes to get from one end to the other. And still I can't get enough of it. If you do, think about taking a Loch Cruise. Several boats depart from here. Round Trips or One-way trips. Prices are really fair and it's a really nice thing to do. On sunny or rainy days. Or just grab some food at the Village shop and sit down at the pier area or on the beach to fully enjoy the spectacular views. Be sure to pay at the carpark. It's very strict here. And even it's packed with visitors (well, we're part of it), it's easy to see why. It's just a really pretty village with an amazing Loch location.
