Like many others who have shared, my experience here was less-than-savory... but for different reasons. Dr. Brock is pompous, uncaring, and, I believe, sexist. He always acted, at best, annoyed when I would ask questions for my dad who was suffering from a heart valve infection and resulting COPD that ended up taking his life. My mom and I were his primary caretakers and I always made sure to ask ANY questions on my dad's behalf since he was very unwell and I knew our time with the medical team was always precious. As a result, I always had a TON of questions. Brock did not appear to care, nor take me seriously when I asked them. I really had to probe to get information out of him. He always seemed to be looking down his nose at me, and was extremely put off that a woman would DARE speak to him from a place of curiosity and remotely question HIS authority over my dad's care. I was my dad's advocate, and I didn't care one bit if the doctors didn't like it - I was going to get all the information I needed to ensure he got the very best care. After my dad passed from his illness in December 2022, we heard not ONE word from Brock nor CVA expressing condolences of any sort. Brock was my dad's primary cardiologist for DECADES, and he sent not one flower nor petal after my dad passed away. In fact, a few weeks after he passed, CVA called us to CONFIRM HIS NEXT APPOINTMENT! I regretfully informed them that my dad was no longer with us, and the lady at the other end of the phone was super embarrassed (rightfully so) and apologetic. I'm sure it wasn't her personal fault that NOBODY on my dad's medical team at CVA had any idea he had died. I actually called Brock's office directly, a few times, once I realized they were not going to send flowers or acknowledge in ANY way that their patient for decades had passed away. I never got a return phone call. Stay far away. I'm sure there are much better heart doctors in Birmingham. I will never forget the callousness with which these people, and Brock specifically, handled my father. read more

My cardiologist at CVA is fantastic! They are extremely knowledgeable, have great bedside manner, and truly cares about patients. The staff at CVA are very friendly and helpful. The negative is the amount of time the appointment takes. My last appointment I was there extremely close to three hours. This is not by any means the only time I have had to wait 2-3 hours for an appointment that takes 10-15 minutes. It is insane. It was my best friend for 40 year's birthday. We had plans in place since last year. I had to cancel on him because I was stuck for hours at the appointment. He just lost his wife and it was his first birthday without her. The appointment before that I had to call my dentist and cancel my appointment which was three hours after my CVA appointment. As someone who was a business consultant for decades, I can tell you this is a very poor way to run a business. I know that doctors are important and sometimes appointments take a little longer than expected but when you start having patience, wait 3 hours, that's insane. You're telling your patients I don't value you and I don't respect you enough to see you within a reasonable time and I expect you to just put up with it. If this happens one more time, I'm gonna have to find a new place and a new cardiologist. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Kirby's for fifteen years. I love him. The facility in Mobile was horrible! I left before him and saw Dr H. Such a wonderful experience. So when Dr Kirby came I went back to him. I was in my late thirties and needed a pacemaker. He was the only one of four different Dr's who listened. He always listens to me. If you're looking for a great heart Doctor give him a chance. The facility a CVA is awesome! Everyone is so nice and helpful. This review is NOT about medical care except tangentially. In general the CVA operation is inefficient approaching that of being unresponsive - certainly with its online portal (which is the worst in this area) and in its telephone response system, For example, I placed a refill order through my pharmacy last Wednesday and on Saturday I went to the pharmacy to pick up my refill even though I had received no notice. The refill request by the pharmacy had no response from CVA. So, this Monday morning I reluctantly entered the CVA portal to place by renewal request. After thirty-plus minutes of watching their system cycle through with the rotating circle - NOTHING BUT A BLANK SCREEN. Then I called the CVA telephone number. After making two auto-selections (because no real person answered) I left my message for the refill order. Then the auto-message said to BE PATIENT because it might take up to 48 hours before the prescription could be refilled. This problem with CVA operations is not new. It has been going on for more than two years. I have offered my complaint to them in the past and all I get is "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." One employee (a nurse) told me on one of my calls that got through, that they too experience a slow online access to their own records. If their inhouse staff experience the same as their patient patients why have they not fixed the problem. This is a TOP MANAGEMENT problem and not a staff problem. However, if staff see that management is inept then they have no reason nor power to correct CVA's operational ineptitude. Many of you can Remember when CVA was over at the BMC hospital for many years. That is where I first started using CVA at the age of 31, now 84 like most things have changed especially the medical field. In good conscience After much thought, I cannot recommend CVA and have canceled my appointments. I suppose the docs are okay but it is like an assembly line with long waits holding a buzzer. While some of their doctors are the best, dealing with CVA is horrible. Doctors don't get messages, nurses don't return calls, appointments to see doctors are switched to NPs without notice, wait times are 1-4 hours after appointment times, office staff tell you the doctor is on schedule with appointments when you later find out he is not even in the building. read more

Got the ole "Bait And Switch" from CVA. They called me to cancel my appointment in late June 2019. I asked to be rescheduled. They could get me with a Physicians Assistant in a few weeks, I said I wanted to see my Doctor not a Physicians Assistant. I got scheduled for an appointment in October 2019 as that was the first time available to see my Doctor. I arrived, got checked in and while waiting in the exam room, I was told I would be seeing a Physicians Assistant and not my Doctor. I left. I have been a patient for a few years now. I have seen the service lately fall into confusion. I will find another heart group. The Doctors are great, the problem is the staff making the schedules. Go Elsewhere. I take my father-in-law because he can not drive or navigate the appointment alone. We always ask for the 8am appointment in an effort to limit the amount of time I have to take off from work. Even with the 8am appointment we have to wait for over 2-plus hours to be seen. Today we have been sitting in the exam room for 2 hours and waiting 30 mins to get to the room. I just do not understand that. On top of that, they send emails saying for us to arrive 30 mins. early. It is a total disregard and disrespect from people's time. They blame new patients. Dr. Cox has been my cardiologist for over a year, and I can't say enough good things about him - and this practice. He is also my mom's cardiologist and performed a stent operation on her. He is very open and honest and takes the time to listen to his patients. He is acclaimed in his field, and rightfully so. My husband had a stent procedure March 24th. After coming home the next day, he was having some discomfort. He called the CVA office ( off of 280: Colonnade Parkway) 3/26 around 10:20 a.m. He asked the receptionist to have Dr. Sample's nurse to call him. His wrist ( which was the first place they tried to place his stent) was in pain and a knot had come up on his wrist. The nurse never called that day. He called again Tuesday, 3/30. After several tries, he finally talked to the nurse. Today, 4/2, he called and asked the receptionist to have the nurse to call him because his legs were cramping. He is concerned that he is having a reaction to the medicine that Dr. Sample prescribed. No nurse called him back today. The receptionist told him that it may take 48 hours for someone (nurse or doctor) to call him back. What does do in this situation? It seems that CVA is not able to take of the patients after they they do a procedure on them. Need advise and help from management from this facility. read more

Dr. Reeves has seen my dad for years. Ever since Dr. Reeves has moved into the CVA practice, his care of my father has gone downhill. We haven't even seen him in a year and a half, it's a nurse practitioner. I wait for an hour just to speak to a receptionist. I leave a message with the nurse with no return call back. I am on my 4th call to them and can't get a nurse on the phone to discuss his medication that's making him very ill. This practice is TOO big to properly care for its patients!!!! read more

Nice facility. From consultations to nuclear stress testing and imaging. Could be a challenge to get to at certain times of day depending on where you are coming from but that is Highway 280 and all businesses along this corridor have the same problem. The Collonade actually has better access from main to back entrance than many spots. With CVA it really comes down to who your Doctor is however there are 20 or so physicians so you can migrate until you find one you like. Thorough services at a new location that is set up for volume and patient flow. Recommended. read more

Our actual office visits have been okay. There's a wait but sometimes it's more reasonable than others. However, after my dad has had 3 cardiac hospitalizations, our satisfaction with CVA is less than 1 "star". We encountered 9 different doctors. All but 2 showed no interest in my dad or what I (the POA and caretaker) had to say. One (Eagan) actually stood with his back to me while I asked questions. Eagan was the worst but only Rayburn and Baker were approachable in any way for inpatient stays. We like Hasabnis but I don't know if we'll return to him. I called twice this week with concerns and did not get a return call. This resulted in an ER visit and the worst, most frustrating hospital stay we've ever had. It could have been avoided by returning my phone call. My concerns were backed by tests that could have been done in the office. My sister's words..."CVA is too big for their britches". Quality patient care appears to be gone. read more

The doctor was great. I waited 2 and a half hours to see the doctor. As if my taking time off work was not a big deal. I did not take three hours off because it should not have taken that long. I have been bringing my grandmother here for 3 years now. The facility is great and convenient. The doctors are knowledgeable. There are a few things that I don't like about this facility. My grandmother is 85 years old and she does not have patience. The wait time is outrageously ridiculous. Her appointments are always at 2:15 pm we always arrive by 1:30. We don't get to see the doctor until 5:10 that's 2 hours from the appointment time. The other thing I don't like about this practice is that when you call to speak and ask the doctor questions they say we will get your information down and will let the staff of your doctor to give you a call. A week passes and you don't hear anything from them. We will be transferring from this practice to a different practice. read more

The doctors are very efficient. The issue I have is problems with communication.When you call their office you are on hold for the receptionist for up to 30 minutes. She takes the info to forward to the doctor's nurse who sometimes call you back a couple of days later. If you miss her call, then you go through the procedure again waiting another couple of days. Sometimes, you don't receive a call back at all. I just had emergency surgery delayed because CVA drs. who were on call didn't get the message from their office to release me for surgery.After being dismissed,I was having a complication that my surgeon recommended a change to my medication.It has been 6 weeks since my request to CVA with no response.With the seriousness of cardiovascular problems, this procedure & lack of service is not acceptable. Due to this issue, I was forced to change to another group. When I went to the medical records dept to sign my request to have my records transferred, I asked the tech if management ever wanted to know why a patient was leaving their practice & was advised they do not. So I don't guess they are concerned about providing inferior service to their patients. read more

I was an add on short notice from the hospital the night before. It was a long wait, BUT all due to my insurance and it requiring a prior authorization (Nothing CVA could help). I had my tests done in a very timely manner by super nice technicians! They were all very professional and informative. After testing, I saw Michele Watkins, MSN, CRNP for the first time. I can not tell you how amazing she is!! She had the best bedside manner and truly seemed to care about my wellbeing. It was so refreshing having that kind of interaction there!! My Doctor was fine when I saw him but.... The staff is EXTREMELY RUDE & UNPROFESSIONAL (both the Receptionists & the Nurses). I talked to a Nurse about serious health issues I was experiencing and she never advised the MD, would not take my call or phone in any medication even 24 hours later and said "If you need to, go to the Emergency Room"!! I had to go to my Internist in order to avoid serious medical complications and I asked for a referral to another Cardiology practice. The Doctors here are the very best in the world! Dr. Jerry Chandler is without a doubt a GOD sent, the very best there ever was, is and will be to come! You can not do any better any where, no need to try. However, the front office that is operated by Brookwood hospital, leaves a ton to be desired! On a scale of 1 to 10 I would currently rate them a definite 2. I have been with Dr. Chandler for a really long time.
