Now fair warning part of the road gets pretty rough when you get near the nursery. It goes from paved to dirt and with the recent weather wasn't that great but we made it fine just went slow. The nursery is a really cool eclectic place. It is run by a husband and wife and they are super friendly and helpful. They had great energy and really went out of their way to help. The prices are amazing. Probably the best the wife has ever come across. She went for succulents which they had some very nice ones. But they also had plenty of others. I highly recommend this place. The wife has already been telling her friends about it. FYI they are only open on Saturday.

I was speaking w/ what sounded like an older woman and it was my first time ever ordering a flower bouquet to be delivered so I had no idea what I was doing. She went over the different flowers she had available, the colors they normally come in, went over other options in case the ones we initially discussed weren't available, and the color scheme I was going for. I also insisted not having a certain color in the bouquet and I made that perfectly clear and mentioned it several times. I went over the message I wanted on the card and had her sign it off as "love Den". Everything was great and I had the date of the delivery set. Also, I should mention that this is for mother's day. The delivery day comes and my friend asked me if I delivered her some flowers to which I obviously responded yes. She said she figured it was me because the card said it was from "Dn". Ok, so I was a little bit annoyed at that but whatever, not a big deal. Then she mentions that 2 police officers were the ones who delivered the bouquet, and at this point I'm freaking out wondering what the heck is going on. I still continue to be positive about this and just happy about the fact that the bouquet made it to my friend but I was still WTFing about the whole police officers delivering the bouquet!?!?!!?! I told my friend to send me a photo to which she does the following day to get better lighting and that is when I lost it. Literally none of the flowers we discussed were there (ok maybe like ONE) and it seemed like all the backups that I chose didn't really make it in there either. What made me the most upset was that I asked and mentioned multiple times that I did not want PURPLE in the bouquet AT ALL. I mentioned I wanted white, mainly BLUE, and I okayed a SPRINKLE of some yellow/pink but wanted them on the lighter side or just WHITE. But the bouquet had a lot of purple and even the pinks had a purple tone and the bow was purple! That was the one color I had asked to not be present in the color scheme. The flowers weren't ugly or anything like that let me just make that clear. But it just wasn't at all what we had discussed and the whole police officers delivering the bouquet was just weird. She was really sweet but I'm sorry I wasn't happy with the overall ending.

The only thing I didn't like was you couldn't see any of the arrangements before hand, and she doesn't send delivery confirmation receipts but alas there was nothing to worry about because my best friend received her flowers and they turned out gorgeous! TIP when ordering flowers - let the professionals be the professionals! Let them know what style you'd like and let their creativity run. The arrangements will always turn out amazing!

4-year-update: All the plants I have purchased from Rana are absolutely THRIVING. Also, I am very…read moregrateful to the Rana staff for their willingness to help me troubleshoot a few of the plants that got initially a slow start. (Turns out a few of the plants needed more sun. I had planted them in what I had *thought* was a sunny spot...but it was East-facing and Carmel gets a lot of fog. Later I transplanted them, at Pedro's suggestion, into the sunniest spot on my property, on a south-facing bank -- and voila. Problem = solved.) Zooming out a little, it's also worth keeping this saying in mind: "First they sleep, then they creep, then they leap." The reality is that drought-resistant CA natives can sometimes be a little more slow on the "leaping" process than common ornamentals because their energy will be going more into root production and establishing a symbiotic relationship with the soil mycorrhizae* during the first couple years. By year 3, all my plants from Rana had truly started LEAP and now they have graduated from drip irrigation and are their own self-sufficient beauties. The plants from Rana are truly top-notch. Go in with some foundational plant knowledge, and prepare to leave very, very, happy. P.S. *mycorrhizae = the fungal network through which most CA natives get much of their water. (It's one of the basics of understanding CA native plant ecology.) Even if you didn't know that, you should at the very least know the plants you want by their specific epithet (i.e. scientific/Latin) Name before attempting to shop wholesale. ________________________________ Dear other Yelp reviewers: Stop complaining about lack of labeling. The labels are indeed there, with at least one white label tag per each section of plants. It's not Rana's fault if you feel overwhelmed or if only know the Common Name of a plant and/or have no idea how to identify it visually. It sounds to me like maybe you shouldn't have been attempting to shop wholesale to begin with. Want to go buy some Toyon? The label at Rana (and just about all wholesale nurseries, for that matter) will read "Heteromeles arbutifolia." Toyon is just the Common Name. In other regions, people might call it California Holly. (One plant usually has several common names.) That is the wholesale nursery only uses the Scientific Name...to avoid ambiguity. So please, to those grumpy Yelp reviewers out there...how about you spend a little more time studying up on your plant knowledge, and a little less time complaining about a nursery who is simply doing things by the industry standard for wholesale?
