Clearly, I don't give off an artsy vibe, and they know it. One particular time that haunts me: I asked about something specific and I used an alternative term for it (but still a correct term; I had to do a quick internet search after I left to see if I really had misspoken - I hadn't) and all four employees behind the counter just stared blankly at me. I repeated my question, explaining what I needed with context so they could visualize what I was talking about, and was met with "never heard of it", "that doesn't exist", "we don't carry anything like that". I eventually found what I was looking for on my own, and when I cashed out I was met with snickers and eyerolls. "Ohhhhhhh, you meant [other term]." I felt so ridiculed and awkward and unwelcome. For me, it's a one star.

I came here at the recommendation of the good folks at Handiwork in Deering Center. I had gone to a…read morefew places in search of some felting help and Handiwork suggested Portfiber. I immediately booked it over as I needed a very specific consultation -- felting with my doggo's fur. I had my samples and the needle I was using and although they didn't have experience with dog fur they immediately diagnosed the problem with my needle not being a true felting needle. I was able to test out their tools and was on my way to felting success. I came back for a few additional supplies and was overjoyed with the results. Their big giant of a sweet dog who runs the shop is also a plus for visiting.

Most artists visiting the area will probably bring their own supplies, but this is a good place for those things who forgot or find that they could use something else. The lady that appears to own the store seems to be an artist herself and can possibly give advice on where to find some subjects. The few customers who were there when I visited, seemed to be experienced artists who enjoyed chatting with the proprietor.

I had chosen to pick through and purchase some coins in their "world silver coin" box, but I (after purchasing a large number) have disappointingly found a few coins that aren't silver at all - but copper nickel. Their pricing on this box was also very loose with the cashier taking a "rough mental average" of the purity of the coins and adding a "small" premium over spot. While I should've known better to pick only coins I'm familiar with and trusting this undisclosed "small premium", they shouldn't have had any non-silver coinage in the silver coinage bin. I'm sure it would be a headache, but separating the world coins based on purity and not a "rough average" would provide a MUCH better experience for the customer.
