We were walking around the area and saw there were many wineries in the area. We tried to walk out to a couple but were rejected due to reservation only. Caraccioli was the only one that took us in at walk in! Although the had a table open for about 1 hour, they were super nice and told us they had a reservation coming in about an hour and if we can clear it by then. Happily we took the table and did a tasting. Pretty solid wine! I love the family business aspect of it, the one that really won me over was the rose of Pinot noir. If I wasn't going to a bike tour after this, we definitely would've bought some of those rose bottles. read more

Very friendly employees! We brought our dog with us and they were super friendly with him too! I wish there were more comfortable seating options, but the overall vibe is still relaxing. We sat at the bar with our dog and did a standard tasting. Not the cheapest but pretty comparable to other tasting rooms in the area. Visited this while in Carmel - the staff was nice, the decor was very industrial/rustic and the wine was very bubbly. Everything produced is bubbly so if you're not a fan of more champagne style drinking, this is not the place for you. Both my husband and I were not big fans on any of the wines sampled on the shared flight we did however, the rose is their speciality and worth a taste. The flight pricing is extremely reasonable and they will let you share so if you're on the fence, just go and enjoy! Caraccioli Cellars has a cute little storefront on Dolores that you can stop by to sample wines from. It's $20 for a flight of 6 wines. On the menu for us was a brut cuve, a brut rose, a chardonnay, a rose of pinot noir, a nouveau pinot noir, and a pinot noir. I think for me, my favorites were the nouveau and the pinot. The 2017 nouveau had this really gorgeous garnet color and smelled like fruit punch, which was really interesting. I think Caraccioli Cellars specializes in bruts, so if you don't like bubblies, this may not be the stop for you. The person pouring for us was very nice and happy to answer any questions we had. My favorite thing about this tasting was that the tasting menu listed what you should expect in terms of sight, smell, and taste. I am definitely not a wine connoisseur, so the extra guidance from the descriptions was much appreciated. We decided to take a picture after we were done tasting, but we had no wine left in our glasses, so our tasting room associate gave us another small pour for the picture. A nice way to get a little extra wine, I suppose. tl;dr: I enjoyed the trip to Caraccioli Cellars. You'll have to see for yourself if you enjoy the wines, but the space was clean and modern and the tasting room associate was kind and helpful. There was however a man who I believe was someone higher up in the business, he was on his cell phone the entire time pacing outside of the door. Cute winery located in downtown Carmel, and a good place to hang out, unwind, and get away from the crowds for a bit. This is also a great place to have some good cheese and charcuterie! My friends and I came in on a Saturday late afternoon, and it was busy but there was still room at the bar for a party of 7 when arrived around 4:30pm. Wow! What a phenomenal experience. My wife and I were celebrating our 5th year anniversary. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and welcomed w/ positive energy. When we sat down, Sam took very good care of us. We explained to her this was our first time experiencing a wine tasting, and our first time in Monterey Bay (We are from Stockton, Ca). Sam was very patient with us, and she was very knowledgeable. We were even lucky enough to sit next to the owner. He was full of joy and very funny. He gave us great recommendations of places to eat. This is my absolute favorite wine room in Carmel. When hubs & I went for a day trip to Big Sur, we decided to stop in Carmel to wine taste on our way home. Of course being the Yelper I am, I had to research before we went. My initial search was for wine tasting rooms & decided to look into sparkling wine tasting - they don't call me "Pop Champagne" for nothin! To my delight, Caraccioli Cellars popped up (no pun intended) with great reviews. *The map location on Yelp is a bit strange & we found out there are no number addresses for downtown Carmel businesses. This is due to the founding fathers wanting to keep Carmel as a village & not become "citified." Pretty cool, but can make navigating through the town a tad difficult. Let's get back to the wine... Once we found the tasting room it was a charming welcome. Sort of contemporary meets rustic style decor. We were promptly greeted by the tasting room attendants (I'm terrible with names) who were professional, friendly, & provided us a wealth of knowledge about the wine & process of wine making. We were informed that Michel Salgues formally of Roederer Estate is one of their wine makers. Specifically, he uses French methods to create their sparkling wine. Knowing a bit about sparkling I was totally intrigued. He uses the méthode champenoise so Caraccioli sparkling is pretty damn special. Needless to say, I couldn't wait to start the tasting. I went for the $12 for 6 tastings merely because I wanted to try every sparkling wine that I could. I lifted the Riedel flute to my lips & that first taste of Brut Cuvée was sheer magic. I was blown away by the light fruit notes yet very elegant & it wasn't too dry. Both cuvée's were exceptional. My next taste was their Brut Rosé (Rosé is my favorite) which is an award winning sparkling - I believe they just won an award for best Rosé in the U.S. The Rosé was the winner of the three for me. It was soft, lightly fruity, & balanced. I truly enjoyed all of their sparkling wines though & would have bought them all if I could. I then moved on to the Chardonnay, which I typically don't care for buttery or oaky Chard's, but theirs were quite nice. I found them to be more on the crisp & bright flavor scale. Last but certainly not least was their Pinot. Another wow factor for me which is saying a lot since I'm more of a robust varietal lover. Beautiful color, fruit forward, & extremely smooth - smooth like buttah. I will say that their wine doesn't come at a cheap price, but that old saying is correct in this situation: you get what you pay for. I walked away with the Brut Rosé, a bottle of Pinot, & a truly memorable experience. read more

Caraccioli Cellars has been around since 2006 and just last week they opened a tasting room in Carmel. Transforming this once outdated space, they have created a unique and sensual place to taste their well balanced wines. Masculine granite counter-top goes well with the warm feminine glow from the hanging lights, everything sexy yet sophisticated. Hanging shelves adorn the walls full of tasting-ware as well as a few books and wine accessories. This tasting room is hip in a sense that it rivals any that I've experience in the city yet it's almost more enjoyable because it's "happening" right here in Carmel by the Sea. I love the wooden structure in the back which doubles as a wall and wine storage. As I took a photo of it, I discovered that the reflection from the gorgeously adorned silk lantern creates a visible heart shape which is even more noticable once photographed (see photo). Even il bagno is sleek and inviting. More gorgeous wood along the walls which felt like silk under my fingertips. The bar is stunning, made from Peroba, a wood found on the Brazilian Coast. Like their wines they pay close attention to detail. Caraccioli Cellars Tasting Room offers small bites like olives, a cheese and a charcuterie plate to compliment their wines. I tasted their Brut (nice tight bubbles with a clean finish) as well as their Pinot Noir (both from the Santa Lucia Highlands) which was Killer. They also offer a Brut Rose and a Chardonnay. As I left the street I noticed a nice buzz in the atmosphere. Carmel by the Sea is slowly but surely waking up and shedding the old sleepytown stigma. Along with this new tasting room... Mundaka, La Bicyclette's new Pizza Bar and a few other late night eateries have helped in bringing back nightlife in our tiny neck of the woods and I couldn't be happier. Came here on a whim with a friend and I'm SO GLAD I DID! Highlight of our Carmel trip. We both did a flight of wine (would recommend each getting your own, but bear in mind they give generous pours). The servers were so kind and we felt very at ease. The prices were completely reasonable considering the incredible quality of the wine. Why does this place have so many stars??? "The flagship wine" which is their brut was ok. And it was all down hill from there. It was really busy and the staff are so friendly but just get a glass of the brut and leave dont pay for that flight it was hard to drink. Dog friendly! We were looking for dog friendly wineries in Carmel and found Caraccioli on Yelp. We also noticed they were listed in one of the wine guides we had so we thought we'd give them a try since they were open until 8PM. We were there on a Wednesday night and it wasn't crowded at all. We mentioned Yelp and got a free taste with the purchase of a flight (we chose the 4 flights, so we had 5 tastes total for $10). A little pricier, but the pours are generous and the staff was very friendly. Allison was very nice and knowledgeable of the wines, especially after only working there for a week. I liked the fact that we could taste sparkling wines. We really enjoyed the 2008 chardonnay and the 2007 pinot noir. A stop with wine (and free breadsticks) was perfect before dinner.
