Terrible place. Had my car towed there and was told they checked everything and it was ONLY the alternator. They then called back and said it was a relay fuse as well and added another $1500!!!! Even though they said they inspected everything and it was just the alternator. Which was already 1200. Not only are they insanely expensive they are scamming me. They don't know what they are doing at all. They clearly are not professionals and fucked the fuse box up.so now I am stuck trying to find a place to fix their mess up. I wouldn't be that upset if they didn't call me twice to tell me they checked EVERYTHING AND IT WOULD BE READY IN TWO HOURS AND THEN CALL ME BACK AND SAY NO! Update: Absolutely most horrendous mechanic ever. They have had my car for two weeks and said it was the alternator. Then said it was the fuse box and said it would be 2500. I cannot say enough how wonderful my experience was here. I had a bad experience at another shop in town missing a leak in my tire earlier in the day. I knew I needed a second opinion, and made an appointment at CarX later that day. Every interaction I had with each employee was positive. They were polite, professional, and kind. I want to especially call out Riley, who was handling the front desk. I observed him with several customers, and he was so genuinely friendly with everyone. Not only did CarX fix my leaky tire (and found an inch long nail that the other place somehow missed), but they really turned my bad day around. 10/10. They treat you like a person. I am writing this review to warn against this auto shop. DO NOT GO HERE, even if you are doing a simple oil change. I went here under the impression that I was offered a discounted oil change and tire rotation, ended up paying over $80 and waited 3 hours. During the service, the front desk lady said they "broke off a bolt" and would pay to replace it, acting like it was a courtesy? When they damaged my car. Then driving after the service my car was making a noise and when I called in they said they couldn't take me. I came in the next day to have the manager say the person who rotated my tires bent my plate. This leads to damage on the car and steering but no one took accountability and just fixed it after another hour wasted? I then brought it back to let them know my sensor lights kept coming on because they probably ruined my TPMS sensor but said it was a nail in the tire. Okay, I got a new tire yet the light still flicks on and off after this service? DO NOT GO HERE. Rude and unprofessional staff who love ruining cars. read more

I called the location and the guy at the front desk acted like he was slow and denied everything. Please avoid this shop! If I could give them A NEGATIVE 10, I WOULD. There are far more reputable and honest mechanics than the individuals operating this place. I was hesitant to review this business because I spoke to the manager and called corporate, and received no help. So, here is the story. I received a coupon for an oil change and thought, $19.99 seems like a good price, but what it cost me in the end was not worth it. The day after the oil change there was oil everywhere in my garage. I called Car X and explained what occurred and they immediately said it wasn't something they did, but they would be willing to look at it. This seemed suspect, and to immediately deny wrong doing is a red flag. These mechanics were the individuals who had worked on my car. Before returning, I had another mechanic assess the issue and was told, "This is an easy fix. Who ever changed your oil last, stripped the screw from your oil pan and cracked it. Go back to them and tell them what happened, they should be honest and fix their mistake." I returned and told the manager what I discovered, and he said, "It wasn't us. You need to go back to the people who changed your oil before Car X. They cracked your pan." I said, "The last mechanic who worked on my car was the Lexus dealer! I then drove over 100 miles after the oil change and another 4800 miles before coming to you. If there was an issue with my oil it would have happened before making it to you. I would have had oil on my garage floor months ago." The manager stood by his original claim and rudely refused to fix it. I explained that I would call corporate, and he said, "Go right ahead. They're not going to do anything!" He was right about one thing, corporate never responded, and it cost a few hundred dollars to get it fixed. Do yourself a favor and GO TO ANOTHER SHOP! read more

Another example of overpriced service. I came here AGAIN just to see my options since it wasn't far from my work. I needed work done on my ABS breaks. They wanted $1,300 for the work. I went to TMS autocare.. $600. CarX offered 3 free oil changes and price matching. I would rather pay for the 3 free oil changes then come back here. Shop around, don't be scammed. I gave this company two chances. I do give them credit, the staff are nice people. They just squeeze every dollar out of you. read more

I always take my vehicle to Car-X whether it's for an oil change or some maintenance. If you need a ride to work, they offer free shuttle service. They are not the cheapest in town, but they do quality work which means more to me than saving a few dollars. If you need towed, they can take care of that too. However, you might want to check your car insurance to see if they reimburse towing expenses as it is a tad expensive. ($120 for my last tow, but thankfully my insurance took care of that!) When I needed new tires, they explained why and showed me. They print out estimates so you can budget or shop around if you choose. If they are backed up, they will tell you ahead of time so you can take your car elsewhere if you need to rather than waiting days for them to look at it. Make sure you check the website for coupons. They will also send you occasional coupons via email that are not on the website. Rob and his staff have always treated me right. read more

I came here based on Yelp recommendations, and knowing that because they're a local chain, that that would likely have a waiting room where I could have my services done without dropping the car off. I needed three things done with my car: (1) a standard oil change, (2) to check some lines that were chewed up by squirrels under my hood, and (3) to verify if that was the cause of my windshield wiper fluid not spraying (it was working just a week prior). The waiting room is pretty standard. Coffee is available and they have cable TV playing, with plenty of seating. The interaction with me was standard as well. What I had issues with is that they did not carefully check why my windshield wiper fluid was not dispensing. After I had my oil change done, they told me that they replaced one of the hoses under my hood related to the sprayers that the squirrels bit up, but it still wasn't working and the windshield wiper fluid simply needed to defrost due to the cold weather. Just moving from Texas, and snow had just fallen the previous day or so, I assumed that this might have been the case. I waited until the weather was above freezing, and drove my car for thirty minutes in hopes of warming what's under my hood, but the windshield wiper fluid would still not come out. It also did not make sense that my fluid would freeze since my dipstick for the washer fluid came out without any issues or evidence of freezing. After a week of trying to figure this thinking about this on my own, it turns out that there was an electrical wire that was right next to the washer fluid container that was split. This was the reason why my windshield wiper fluid would not come out. ***It had nothing to do with it freezing, which is what Car-X suggested, and I can only guess that they assumed it froze, but didn't bother to check for any other explanation.*** The other issue I had with them is that while they replaced the hose for the windshield wiper fluid, they missed a vacuum pump hose that was chewed up. If they actually looked around my engine, it would have been very noticeable. I ended up going to another repair shop to have it replaced. In terms of pricing, their oil change price is pretty standard, but their transmission fluid change (which they correctly recommended, but I did not accept) was slightly more expensive than other local independent shops. This place also seems to charge a small $5 fee for installation of some parts that don't take very much effort at all, and would be installed without charge at other local independent shops. I personally did not have the experience I was hoping for based on previous Yelp reviews. If I needed a quick oil change, I might come back, but not for any other services. read more

I've had an overheating problem on the way to the Willard airport. I stopped by this CarX for a quick check due to some good review here. They charged me $104 for a just opening the engine. The nice thing is they gave me a free ride to Willard airport. After one day, a guy from CarX called me and told me that my car had a head gasket leak. The cost for fixing it is $2500. They also told me that my cylinders need replacement. The cost for each cylinder is $700 not including material costs of other things.... The total cost minimum is $2500 + $700 x 6, which is totally unreasonable since my car only worth about $3000. I would rather sell my car instead. Then, i reached a local mechanics suggested by a friend. After examined the car, he disagreed with CarX and said the problem i had is a timing cover gasket leak. He suggested me to fix it and change the thermostat. The total cost is $979, including car inspection and removing the check engine light. That's totally solved my problem. After a few days, a girl from CarX called me and said they will do a price match if i can find someone fixing my car at a lower price. I just ignored her after all the disappointments with CarX overpriced quote. Unless you are rich and really love CarX, don't go for it. It will severely hurt your wallet. I took my car in to have an oil change today. This was the first time I have taken it someplace other than the dealer. I was able to get in pretty quickly. I'd never been here before, this was my first visit. I was having a problem with a tire pressure light coming on. They checked my tires and reset the light. They even checked the pressure in my spare. That was the only one that was low, go figure. The man I talked to on the phone was really friendly and polite. Everyone I talked to in the store was equally friendly. Since my pre-paid service on my car has run out from the dealership, I think Car X will be my new go-to place for oil changes and such. read more

The Car-X on Neil Street offers good quality workmanship and good customer service. They stand by their work. I've had them work on my vehicle three times, and on all occasions, their waiting time was less than they estimated, as was the price of the services I had done. One visit involved a battery that was discharging frequently. They tested it and found that it was unable to hold a charge. Because I had purchased the battery only a year and a half earlier to replace the factory-installed battery that came with my car, they replaced it for me with no charge whatsoever for the battery or for the labor. This was done on their own volition without prompting from me. My most recent visit was for an air conditioner that was cooling only sporadically. They found I was low on coolant, which suggests the possibility of a slow leak. They recharged my system and added an ultraviolet dye so that if the leak persists, they will better be able to identify the source. The beautiful thing is that the refrigerant is under a lifetime warranty, so that all I'll be on hook for should the leak continue will be labor and parts to fix the leak. For those who want to wait while their vehicle is serviced, Car-X has coffee and popcorn; there is also a Culver's and Arby's nearby, among other dining locations. For those who don't want to wait, Car-X offers shuttle service to deliver and pick-up their customers elsewhere in town. The staff doesn't try to sell products and services that your vehicle doesn't need, and they offer good work that they stand by at a fair price. read more

I called because I had a nail in my tire and they told me to come right in. Service only took about 20 minutes, and price was extremely reasonable. Who likes to pay $1300 per axle for a brake job? If so, this is your place. Went in last Friday because my back wheels were hot to the touch. The clerk said I needed a brake replacement and handed me an estimate of $1300. I gulped and said I'd call back. I knew they had worked on my brakes a couple of years ago so I located the repair bill. They had done the same work, replaced calipers,pads, and rotors less than 2 years ago for over $900. I brought the earlier bill into Carx so they could see it. To be fair, he said he thought they would honor the warranty although it had been almost 2 years. I went to a different place. I brought my wife's car here for some tires after a competitor we had scheduled with had no staff. The staff was very helpful initially, and we were told they could get to my wife's car before close and to leave it. At 3:30pm I received a call that the car is finished and ready to pickup. I said I would be there in 30-40 minutes and was asked to come right away as they were trying to close early. We got the vehicle home and realized they put the wrong size tires. We also noticed the car was pulling to the right fairly hard, despite paying for an alignment with the new tires. We did not receive an alignment printout like you should when one is done. I contacted the store online, since they were closed, to inform them of the mistake and expected a call Monday. When I didn't receive a call by 10, I called and explained and the associate said if I could get there in 30 minutes, they'd take care of it. Both my wife and I were at work so that was no way possible. I asked the associate about a return policy or if they would price match and she was unaware and said I would have to speak to the manager which she was hesitant to do. I expected the manager to call me anyway, so I asked to speak with him and was told he was in meetings all day. I asked for him to call me and waited till the next day around Noon, when I finally decided to call corporate to ask them. Corporate told me they would have the manager call me the next day or to call them back. The manager never called, I called corporate, they never answered and had to leave a voicemail during work hours. I expected corporate to call me back by noon the following day, which they never did, and I had to call threaten to look into alternative options to resolve the issues. 20 minutes later I received a call from the store manager. I asked him about a return policy or price match and he was unaware and said we don't do returns and we can give you the tires you bought. I asked about the printout and about the alignment and he simply said the printer is down. No apology, explanation or customer service in any way. To this point I really had tried to be understanding and tolerant. I decided to call corporate again, partially to get an actual answer on a return or price match and partially because I was beginning to rethink this particular store touching our vehicle again. Corporate said they leave those decisions to the area manager and he would be calling me that day. He never called. We are now actually having to looking into alternative measures to resolve this. I was not trying to get anything for free or take advantage of the situation. I was simply curious about a return policy since we had not even received the product we paid for or even simpler if they could just match the Amazon price which was a little over $200 cheaper for the exact same tires and services with the exact same store. I also expected some explanation for the alignment. I have worked on vehicles for years and I am no expert but pulling 4 ft in a 100ft stretch immediately after install means it wasn't aligned. I would NOT let this store and potentially this company touch your vehicle. read more

My wife and I sent in both of our cars for oil changes about two weeks ago. The service quality was so bad, we have decided to take our business elsewhere from now on. For my car, I asked for an oil change and tire rotation. After the service the car felt more sluggish than before the service. And they apparently did not check my tire pressure after the rotation. I thought it is a common procedure that follows any tire-related services. For my wife's vehicle, we bought a specific brand of wiper blades based on their high recommendation. When we picked it up, the new blades did not work. We had to drive back to the shop and asked for repair. Three technicians refused to admit the problem is associated with the new wiper blades. Then they decided to forcefully bend the arm of the wiper to make it work. Mind you that the new wiper blades cost us $44 per pair and they only offered a $10 coupon for a "future" oil change to compensate the inconvenience induced by the faulty service. We specifically asked for a refill of the windshield fluid. But they never got it done. They lied to our face that the fluid has been filled. You can argue that those are minor things. I agree. I can easily checked my tire pressures and refill the windshield fluid. What concerns me the most, however, is their dishonesty. They would lie to us just to save $3 of windshield fluid. That tells a lot about a business. We chose Car-X on Neil because it is affordable. In this economic downturn we want to save as much as we can. An auto repair service preying on consumers like this is just not acceptable. read more

A one star is actually too high for this place if I could I would give it a negative 5 star. Last week I took my jeep into this location for an intermittent starting problem and a radiator flush. They kept my jeep for two days and were unable to find or get the jeep to act up even after I told them what to do they did complete the radiator flush I pick the jeep up on Thursday from them after work. Within a day I was using the environmental controls in the jeep for heat in the morning simply because I take my wife to work early and it was cold air was blowing cold air while in defrost mode on Saturday. I took the Jeep back to them on Saturday and told them about the problem and they had it corrected so they thought they told me it was an air pocket in the radiator. That repair seemed to work fine until this morning when again I left for my job earlier than normal and it was blowing cold air again. I went in and spoke with the gentleman at the front I was not happy about this, I explained to him that I was not going to leave until my jeep is fixed and it was going to be fixed at their cost. He then proceeded to tell me they could not guarantee that and I told him I don't care what you can guarantee and want you can't guarantee it was working fine before you did a radiator flush on it and now it is broken and I wanted it fixed I also told him that I would be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as his corporate office and that I would be posting a review on yelp about this shop.At 7:40 AM this morning they got the jeep in and they diagnosed it as a bad heater core, now my question is when it was in on Saturday for the same issue why didn't they diagnosed it then as a bad heater core it was the same mechanic they had looked at it on Saturday. The gentleman at the front did make some phone calls and check his schedule he told me that he could not get my jeep repaired today but that he could do it on Friday he also gave me the cost of the repair and told me it was a six hour job he also caught another location to see if they could get it in any sooner that location would be able to work on it on Wednesday. I then made a couple phone calls and decided to take it out to one of their other competitors where I spoke with the general manager both on the phone and in person and he assured me that he would get my jeep and looked bad and if it all possible fixed he understood that I work out of my jeep and my tools are in it. I'm very happy that I took it to the competitor not only was the jeep able to get diagnosed properly but I was also able to be fixed in less than six hours which is an amazing job to complete. I will not be coming back here to this location for even a simple oil change the gentleman at the front desk seems cocky And a little arrogant in my opinion. I would not allow this place to do any kind of repairs on my Jeep and would be especially Leery and cautious of them doing a coolant radiator flush seeing as they use a machine and I do not think that they actually know what they're doing before I took my deep in and had them do a coolant radiator flush I never had a problem with it since then the heater core has gone out and now the water pump has gone out. My jeep is only six years old and it is unheard of in my opinion for a heater core or a water pump to go out on a six year old vehicle I suspect that this place might have either used to much solution or pressure which caused the heater core and now the water pump to go out. Even the experts at Midas find it hard to believe that a heater core and now the water pump have gone out within a week of each other and they both need to be replaced. They are wondering if they possibly used an acid to flush out the radiator or another solution that would eat the parts and the seals I have used Muretic acid before to remove graffiti from concrete and I can tell you personally that I know it's effects . When I called their corporate office today to let him know how displeased I was with the service that I had received and the fact that I am still having problems from their radiator coolant flush on my truck I was essentially told that they are not responsible for anything and that my truck is close to 100,000 miles which is not completely true it did over 97,000 miles on it at the time and currently has a little over 98,000 miles on it. I had a 2001 Nissan Ultima that had over 135,000 miles on it when I trade it for the jeep and never did the water pump go out on it nor the heater core I have had several vehicles over my lifetime and only once have I had to have the heater core replaced in the vehicle I have never had to have a water pump replaced I think their corporate office is trying to cover their ass so that they do not have to pay for damages that they had done to my truck. I would not encourage anyone to do any kind of business with this company or this specific location. read more

I have taken multiple cars over the past few years to this location for mostly generic maintenance (installing tires purchased on tirerack, oil changes, fluids) and a couple of times to replace O2 sensors and CV boot joints. I have found their prices fair and their customer service top notch. They don't recommend unnecessary services either. Param (the owner) owns quite a few Car-X locations in the region, but he's often working at this location and is knowledgeable about cars, so I get a sense of this being a local business (a plus on my books). read more

Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I had been a repeat customer of Carx since I moved up here 3 almost 4 years ago. I always paid in cash, and I never questioned their work. Honestly I do not know much about cars, but I do know a whole lot about customer service, and this place knows squat. I took my car in to have the brakes looked at, they had been squealing and I knew they needed to be fixed. I was also aware that my car needed an oil change, but otherwise, it was driving just fine. So imagine my surprise when after waiting for an hour and a half I am told that my car needs almost $2000 in work done. Yes $2000. I had taken it in thinking I would get their $199 brake special and be on my way. I was wrong. I decided to take my car to another shop in town, to get a second opinion. As I was leaving, the man behind the counter said "If someone else beats our prices, let us know and we might be able to do something for you". That was the line that lost my business for good. If they could have "done something for me" they should have done it while I was still in the store. And I wish the story ended there, but it doesn't. The new shop said he had a lot of work to do, but if I dropped my car off he would try to take a look at it and call me by the end of the day. When he called me he told me my car did need some work done, but some of the things Carx recommended were absolutely wrong. He explained to me part by part what needed to be fixed, and gave me a fair price. He also fixed things on my car that Carx didn't even offer or mention while I was in their shop. His price? Half of what Carx quoted. I was extremely happy with the work that was done on my car, and I went on my merry way. Then I received a phone call from Carx, asking about my experience. So I told the lady (who was very nice) about what had happened, I didn't raise my voice or anything, I just explained what happened at Carx and why they lost my business. We hang up and again I think that that is the last I have to hear from them, but I was wrong. The very next day I get a call from a lady who says she works in the owner's office and he would like to take a look at my car, they offered me $50 to bring my car in and let him take a look because he wanted to make sure they (meaning Carx) "didn't mess something up". I told them I would never step foot in their doors again and they can keep their $50. Moral of the story, go somewhere else, save yourself the trouble of being lied to and taken advantage of. I think it is extremely fishy that they want to see my car again, and they are willing to pay me to do so. I would give this place no stars if the system would let me. And most of these reviews seem to be fake, especially the first one that says they have popcorn, they do not have popcorn. They have a coffee machine from 1983 and a water cooler. read more

Car X fixed a very frustrating problem when no one else could!! After buying new tires, the low tire light came on about every six weeks. Sure enough, when I checked them, one tire needed air. After taking the car in three different times to "business x" and being told they couldn't find a problem, I went to Car X. In a nutshell, after a twenty minute appointment, they discovered the problem, fixed it and had me back on the road again with never another problem. Thanks Car X!! I now take my car there for oil changes and tire rotations because I trust them and they do not try and upsell unnecessary services. I will also buy my next set of tires from them. read more

At Last. An Excellent, Inexpensive, Honest, Caring and Professional Service Garage. Car X in Champaign literally saved us in a number of ways. They repaired a vehicle of ours that had been seriously damaged by a dishonest "quack" mechanic at another location and made it safe for us to drive it again. No other group was able to do this, and Car X came through like a hero. Dave, the manager, is a true expert and really cares about giving his customers prompt excellent service at a very fair price. I can't recommend the group too highly. They are the best in the business. Additional Note: Unlike many other garages, CAR X always calls me AFTER each service call to make sure I'm satisfied. As a long-time customer, I am very disappointed with my recent experience at Car-X on Neil st in Champaign. Its service is deteriorating. I called on Wednesday and made an appointment with the usual staff "Rob" (I recall) for Friday morning. Showed up Friday morning, I was told by a different staff that my name was not on their appointment calendar. No apologies whatsoever. The staff told me he could squeeze me in but wouldn't know how long it would take to get oil changed, could be an hour, or an hour and a half. The staff acted as if he was doing me a favor even though it's their mistake! Showed no respect or concern with my time in the least, just like the other customer posted. My experience started off on a bad note, there first available appointment for a basic diagnostic was a week out. I wish I never waited a week for the horrible smug service I received. You would think after waiting that long they would be able to serve you during your appointment or at least in the same day. NOPE. They called at the end of the day informing me they were not able to look at my car that day and wouldn't get to it for another three days! Upset that at this point it had taken over a week in a half for just a basic diagnostic, I explained my feelings to the staff. I had a terrible experience at carx I had two tires replaced which was fine but when they replace my tires they took the key to my locking lug nuts six months later I was at my son's baseball game hundred miles from home I had a flat tireI went to change my tire and I didn't have a key for my locking lug nuts I have the car towed I had to pay a mechanic to work on it on a Sunday I also had a special spend the night in a hotel so I went back to car X I told them about my experience they give me the name of the previous owner I called them they told me they were going to get back with me and never did I called them five days in a row with no response I went back to carx they could care less I will never walk in that store again and I wouldn't if I were you either they don't stand behind their work that's probably why they got us three star rating I only give them one because they didn't have a zero The owners of Carx is Nona inc read more

If I could give a negative amount of stars, I would. This place scammed me, and I wish I never got my car serviced here. I bought 4 tires from the Walmart in Savoy, I bought 4 rims that match the tires from amazon, and I brought my Jeep Wrangler into this Car X on Neil street so they can put the tires on the rims, insert valve stems into the rims, balance the rims, and inflate the tires. Now I was quoted around 100$ total for this work to be done. I agreed to this quote, even though the employee who told me this spoke to me in a disgruntled manner. I put trust into these mechanics, the same way my patients put trust in my skills as a paramedic when they dial 911. Anyways, I called the day after so I could check on the status of my car. Guess what they told me? They told me my brake line "ruptured", and that it will cost 1,000$ to fix. Being a nursing student, as well as a Paramedic working in Champaign County, I cannot to afford to lose a day of work or school. People count on me to show up to work, and I will fall behind if I miss a day of nursing school. So, I was forced to pay the money and never take my vehicle into them again. I got a sharp object stuck in my tire and live out of town from where I work. It was bad enough that I could hear air escaping. I stopped by Car X just before 5 pm in Savoy. They were open until 5:30. I explained the problem, the manager said that it was not safe for me to drive my car home, that my tire would likely blow out on the interstate but he couldn't help me because his "guys" were off at 5:00. I saw the three "guys" hanging out in the parking lot. He was okay letting me leave. My husband called Midas and told them my situation, I was on the other side of town but they said they would wait for me.. not only that, the assistant manager, Nathan stayed and fixed my problem... even though his "guys" had already gone home as well. Seriously, this is what customer service is all about. He said, "I just wanted you to be safe". He made no money off of me this time around... charged me nothing to put my spare on until a new tire is available... wow. read more

Took car in for alignment and 2 new tires. They said we needed 4 tires and would take 2 days to order. Called to say new tires were in and would be ready that afternoon. Called at 4pm to say ready. Ran in, paid, and ran out to get kids for road trip. After 7 hour drive noticed same, bald tires on car. They did not change tires or do alignment. When confronted they first accused us of using a different car. When they realized that would not work they said it was an honest mistake. When we asked how they did not notice that there were 4 extra tires laying around they said they had put them on another car. After hours of arguing they finally gave us our money back but did not seem at all apologetic or concerned. read more
