I took my 2021 Subaru in for a couple of issues that I was having. First, I had an 8am appt and figured, having an appt would ensure that my vehicle had priority. I was told the diagnostic fee would be $250 which seemed a little steep but I have had good experience with this mechanic with the prior ownership. Well, 6 hours later I finally got my diagnosis, and was told that it would need another appt to fix the issues. The cost to fix the issues was going to be about $2200, but their mechanic had never fixed this problem before and it was a typical issue for Subies. He did refund $75 of the diagnosis fee because of the slow service with an apology. So I took my car to the dealership because I wanted the experienced technician working on my car. Subaru charged me $168 for the same diagnosis and the same cost to fix my car. I am sorry, but if the dealer can do the same job for the same price..... I will go to a dealer every time. I am very disappointed that this mechanic wanted to charge me the same price as the dealer after overcharging for the slow diagnosis. BTW.... the dealer diagnosed the problem and had it fixed faster than the diagnosis through this shop. I want to support small shops, but I will not overpay to do so. Unfortunately, I will be looking for a new shop. I don't want to keep going to the dealership and this place did not give me any confidence. read more

We were traveling from Seattle to Indiana when the AC went out in our car. It was hot and we were traveling with 2 dogs. We found Car Clinic on Google maps and sent a message through their website. They called us within minutes and got our car in at 0730 the following morning. They processed our warranty information and called us at 1300 to tell us it was done. We were able to get back on the road with only half of a day lost. Kayla was great with communication. They even provided transportation from their business back to our hotel. I would like to start off by saying that for many many years we loved Car Clinic when John Hoffman owned it!!! He treated every customer as family and you knew you were getting great service and honest deal. All of the reviews prior to 2022 are correct! Fast Forward 2022- He sold his business to Jim. I was hesitant when I walked in and saw the new remodel and all new employees. I went ahead and a got a quote. It was more then it should have been but they insured me that was the issue.... it was not .. After a few visits ( I knew I should not have gone back) and them telling me the car was great and it just needed a couple things, I knew it was a lie!! (John would have said dump it!) 3 weeks later the engine blew. I grew up working on cars. My husband, son and my dad still work on our vehicles. They spoke to me like most speak to a female in the automotive industry! They are sweet talkers to make you think they have your best interest in mind.. Its simple- Be honest, Be straight forward, Don't sugar coat it and don't tell me the car is great because it looks pretty! I will never go back!! Car Clinic has been a godsend. I'm very happy to have found a reliable and trustworthy mechanic. I have an older Dodge truck that the previous owner had neglected. They worked their magic and it went from getting 11mpg all the way up to 15mpg. Not to shabby. I really appreciate how quickly they can get me on their schedule, and I'm even more appreciative of the way they get my job completed quickly and on time. Not to mention their prices are fantastic. I created a yelp review in Feb 2022 as the CAR CLINIC charged me twice for a wheel bearing on a Tundra as the work had to be redone and they charged me twice for the work as they have no idea how to correctly do this type of work. Also, they took two tries to do a brake job which is the most basic work. DO NOT trust YELP reviews as they ONLY keep the good reviews as they removed the review I submitted last year. Stopped in here today to have my car looked at since I'll be traveling soon through a couple of states to see my step daughter's graduation. I was told that this was a great little shop that dealt fairly and honestly with folks and that they would be the best people to have a look at my vehicle and not jerk me around. When I called to make an appointment they were very cordial and made every effort to listen to me ramble on about what I needed before telling me that it wasn't a problem, when would I be available and that they'd see me soon, lol Day of my appointment arrived and after having my no good office assistant Siri give me directions to this business I finally found it and checked in. The owner John was there and he greeted me and talked with me about what we were gonna do with the car. The small waiting office is 3 chairs in a room with free coffee available and no tv. There are a few magazines to occupy your time if you're there to wait. John was very nice and took the time to talk to me while and get to know me while I waited. As the mechanic came in to discuss my car I was privy to the conversation and able to ask questions and go into the garage to look at my car and see what they were talking about. Not once did I ever feel like they were trying to jerk me around or hide anything from me. I am a woman who asks ALOT of questions. It can be frustrating on the receiving end sometimes (so I've been told, lol) but never once was any frustration shown to me. If anything they were both more then happy to show me everything that I asked about and explain everything to me. I ended up with just having to get my oil changed and an air filter replaced. I did find out that I had a small oil leak as well but was told it wasn't a big problem but to keep an eye out on it. I was glad that I wasn't pushed to get anything immediately done that didn't need to be done. I am VERY satisfied with the level of courtesy, professionalism, care and experience that John and his team showed me. I will definitely be coming back to see him for all my car needs!!! Had work done a few times and was great. People were very helpful for my wife. Then she had her brakes done on the front...new rotors and pads. Right before a trip. My fault for not checking....rotors were severely warped. Drove whole way to California with faulty rotors. Called car clinic and they said any napa authorized repair shop would honor car clinics work. Call around and NOONE honors or uses napa apparently. 2 shops said the parts were cheap and they don't use them at all...too many problems. Called our old mechanic up who we used before the move and he says you have to use premium parts (AC Delco) because it's GMC vehicle. So we get the work done after car clinic says they will reimburse us for the parts and labor they did after we return home. In the end we pay our old mechanic in California LESS money for BETTER quality parts to do the same job. Labor rates and taxes are WAY higher in California than Idaho. Only reason car clinic is not getting 1 star is they refunded us our money which I might add the lady there was not too happy reimbursing my wife when she dropped the shitty parts off. Sad. We really liked the place but now we're looking for a new mechanic..... read more

BEWARE NEW OWNER!! Towed a Subaru impreza in for brake work after a hard stop and brakes going to the floor. They gave me an upsale of $1700 to fix it even tho I had fully replaced one set last December. 3 more tows later AND more than 3 weeks without the car they still can't fix the issue. Seeking legal advice. They won't return phone calls. Don't go here anymore. read more

It's not often that I take the time to write a review but in this case I had to. My family and I recently moved to CDA and taking new jobs and starting a new house the last thing we needed was drama when our 2012 Ford Edge stopped running. We were told one thing by another person and they were unable to fix it and we heard about car clinic so we tried them. They actually figured out what was wrong (which was different then was first told) and then when there was a secondary issue with the battery they replaced it without charging us and took care of doing the warranty replacement with O-Reileys. We had to go back in a few times with some quirks and they answer our questions and don't try to charge us. They even called my wife a few days later to check in to make sure it was still running well. One of the most stressful things when moving to a new area is finding a trust worthy place to get your cars worked on and this place I can recommend without any reservations. read more

While traveling from Sandpoint, Idaho to Loomis CA with a heavy load of grain from Woods Hay and Grain we experienced some problems with the trailer. We were referred to Car Clinic, recognizing us as "damsels in distress" they dropped everything to examine, evaluate and suggest a repair to the trailer hitch and also helped us find the blown fuse that affected the trailer brakes. After calling in a mobile welder and a trip to Les Schwab for tire evaluation we slowly and carefully made the trip back to California. John Hoffman is an amazing guy, sincerely caring about our safety. He refused to accept compensation and told me to pay the welder directly and give his guys a tip. I want to come back just to have him work on my autos and truck. If everyone is like this in Hayden Idaho then I found Shangri-La! read more

My husband went to a well known car dealership in CDA where he purchased a Jeep with a purchased a extended warranty. Recently the Jeep was not running well ( we could not drive it) so we took it back to the dealership where it was purchased. They told us the rodents had eaten through the wires and was going to cost us over 2000 dollars to repair because "Rodents are not covered under the warranty." Plus wait time for parts are 14-20 . Both my husband and I thought this was odd so we called up Car clinic ( David) and he said bring it in for a second look. Not only did they not find any evidence of rodents or wires being chewed but it was a straightforward repair that was covered under the warranty. Thank you for being honest, efficient and reliable. My experience here had the potential for me leaving a completely different rating, but the owner John is an upstanding guy and a man true to his word. He is really truly what a mechanic should be. I brought my car here on a recommendation for an alignment after doing a lot of front end work to my car. Made the appt and was able to leave car after hours. While driving to drop off the car, there was a new noise coming from exhaust, so I called the next morning to ask if they could just look at it and see if they could tell what it was, but to not do any add'l repairs until I knew the cost. I'm not made of money, hence why I did the other work myself. After some obvious miscommunication about doing the work, I was left a voicemail telling me the car was ready and my bill was 3 times originally quoted. I called a but frustrated, as I was clear I just wanted the to see if they could diagnose the noise, but they actually fixed it. John was very nice and told me that he wasn't going to charge me for any of the work because of the miscommunication. I told him that's not the way I do business and I would be more than happy to pay for the agreed upon work, but I couldn't afford to give him 3 times the amount. Excellent shop! Solved a problem on my son's Honda with a simple fix when two Honda dealer's shops in Spokane could not figure out issue causing car to quit. They are fast, efficient, and trustworthy. I used to do a lot of repairs myself so I know a lot about mechanics but don't have time or room to keep up on repairs/maintenance myself. We try to keep cars/trucks meticulously as we live outside of town on challenging roads and need reliable transportation in all conditions.
