I really only have one problem with the place. I'm only ever available to get my hair cut on Saturdays. The sign on the door says they're open until five on Saturday. One day I showed up before four and they were locked up. I came by a different Saturday at exactly four. The guy had someone in his chair but turned to me and said they were closed at four despite what the hours on the door indicate. It's his business. He can do what he likes. If he didn't make it so difficult to actually get in and get a cut he'd have a much better review from me. The first time I went there the place was great.

They cut men's hair. That's what they do. There's no gimmicks, no frills, no big screen tv's, no half naked women, and no upselling. Secondly, this is a barbershop. They cut men's hair. The barbers are barbers and proud of that title. Lastly, it's a barbershop. They cut men's hair. There's no Vidal Sassoon sponsored "hair artists" that try to convince you that you'll look good with multi colored streaks in your hair and a one of a kind design shaved into the back of your head. Don't do it - you won't. The best endorsement is when you see a dad bringing his boy in for a haircut & the barbers know both by first name. Then the barber asks how grandpa's doing because grandpa is a patron too! This is one of the last true barbershops in the area & you won't go wrong checking them out. Unless you want multi colored hair and unique designs shaved into the back of your head. Don't come here for that - go down the street.

I was pleasantly surprised to get a hair wash and a hot towel massage as part of the service. The regular price is on the higher side at $29 plus tip, but with the quality of the cut -- and the compliments I've gotten -- it felt worth it. I usually go to another barbershop that charges $20 plus tip. It's a quick in‑and‑out cut, and sometimes a lazy or incompetent barber does a questionable job. No wash, no hot towel, no neck shave. For the price, it's probably fair. As a fixed‑income retiree, I'll likely continue using the less expensive barbershop for routine cuts, but I can definitely see myself coming back to Hair Mechanix every few months to treat myself. Sometimes it's worth paying a little more for genuinely good service.
