Tried this place on a Thursday night. Service was top notch the food not so much... I had the Cajun Cuban after reading rave reviews. My pulled pork was burnt and tasted bitter, I finally took the sandwich apart and just ate the sausage with the pepper jack cheese stick that they used for the cheese. The waffle fries were okay. Hubby had blackened catfish it was good but he ordered corn bread and got corn on the cob, which he said was just ok. I thought when we first saw the place it might be just ok but after reading all the reviews I had my hopes up for good food... it was just ok and I wouldn't order the Cajun Cuban again. The wait was longer then it took to get food and drinks. The ambiance was great. Very clean. We ordered catfish bites, Cajun jambalaya, shrimp poboy. The food was great. The bartending was not good. We got food before we got 2 beers. Our server was amazing. She checked in on our and was sorry why our bartender drinks took so long. We were excited about doing karaoke,as we enjoy singing so we're on the patio outside,not too many people at the tables maybe 12 all together,server come out and hands us menus and asked if we would like to order something, husband said no. Server goes back inside,never asked later if we needed anything,there were about 3 servers,I've been a server for about 40 years and if I thought a customer wasn't ready to order anything,I would at least as if they would like a drink. Even though we weren't hungry she never even offed any drinks,about 20 minutes later I go inside and get a drink. Also why do servers who serve food have their hair hanging down,that I believe is a health code violation. Captain Johns sucks at customer service. I tried to call to make reservations and they were all full which is fine, but then I asked if my party of 10 could just walk in and they said no, so I asked if we could split it up to be a table of 5 and 5. They were complicated and showed no help. They never act like they even want anyone there and it is ridiculous. Food and service were wonderful! We came with a large party of 18 and our waitress was on top of everything! Drinks were always filled, food came fast, and it was soooo good! Service was good. Food was ok at best. We dined in on a busy Saturday; seated inside even tho we requested a table outside, there were 2 open, was told they were spoken for. A party came in later and occupied one of the tables but the second was unoccupied for the entirety of our visit. Server took drink order promptly. Appetizers were ordered, we picked the alligator, when our drinks were delivered. Shortly after, we ordered our entrees. I had the red snapper with broccoli and red beans and rice. My significant other had Cajun pasta. Entrees were delivered but my red beans and rice was forgotten. My fish was over cooked and required a knife to cut, one bite was all I managed to eat. The sides were ok. My significant other said the pasta was good. Red beans and rice was delivered them shortly after, then the alligator appetizer came out. This was well after our entrees were served but it had a decent flavor. Overall, the patio is nice and drinks are cold. We drove 1.5 hours to try this restaurant. Ate there this past weekend. We have also eaten at the location in McAlester. The drinks were good. The food was great. Everything we had tasted great and was a good temperature. However, every meal had a side missing so the waitress had to go back for everyone. The restaurant was very hot and the flies were so thick we had a hard time enjoying our meal. Also believe they were short staffed but the workers they had were all working hard and smiling. read more

Very impressed and already ready to go back. Went on a Sunday. I ordered the Red Snapper, others had steak and shrimp, sautéed mushrooms, the shrimp dip appetizer, gumbo, etoufee, and the strawberry pecan salad. The shrimp dip was good, more or less guacamole with shrimp mixed in, the chips were perfection. Red snapper was amazing. Steaks were overcooked one degree, but were perfectly seasoned and JUICY so it wasn't an issue. Mushrooms were amazing. Salad was delicious. Etoufee was loaded with crawfish, both it and gumbo were equally as good. Service and drinks were also top notch. Very fair prices for the quality of food. Everyone left very happy! read more

Celiac child wanted crab legs more than anything. We double checked with the server that the seasonings were gf. She went to ask the chef that said they added flour. Huh? So we regrouped and celiac child was going to begrudgingly choose a salad (and hate every minute of *another salad*). The sweet server went to ask the owner how to fix this (on her own, without our knowledge) and he brought out the seasoning mix. Of course it was fine! Celiac child was thrilled. We stayed in town at La Quinta, and asked for a restaurant list, and we were shown the list then asked where the person giving me the list would want to go for a nice meal! No hesitation, "Captain John's" And it was a wonderful experience and great selection of anything anyone could want to enjoy. And a bit of Cajun selections if desired, We had an appetizer of Crawfish dip with warm taco chips and for the main course, my wife had the best prepared hunk of salmon, with broccoli and skipped the second side and I chose a 12 inch ribeye, and we both were really surprised at the quality of the portions and the flavor. and,I got a loaded baked potato and Etouffee as the second side.
