    Lobster roll

Tried Captain Jack's at the Little Italy Farmers Market and it did not disappoint! The lobster was super fresh and flavorful, and the oysters were just as good--perfectly briny and refreshing. Definitely a great spot to grab some quality seafood while you explore the market. Speaking of which, the farmers market itself is really cool with tons of vendors and a fun atmosphere, so it makes the whole experience even better.

    grilled oyster and lobster roll

We stopped by for a snack at the Hillcrest farmes market on 8/10/25. Ordered 3 grilled oysters and a lobster roll. The grilled oysters were alright couldv'e had some more flavor, even after adding some hot sauce they were still bland. The lobster roll was luke warm and also lacked the garlic in the garlic butter. Maybe it was just an off day.

I love Captain Jack's. If I see them @ the Little Italy Mercado or the Oceanside night market I always stop to get some of their grilled and raw oysters. It's $31 for six grilled and six raw. The people running their stand are always friendly too which makes this place worth a visit for some tasty treats!

Incredible sea urchin and fresh oysters! Seriously so fresh. They prepare everything right in front of you. You can see them shuck, grill, and open the uni right there! I ordered the Fresh Uni (Sea Urchin) and it was actually very big in size! It was packed with umami and sweetness. Tastes like custard. I could eat multiple if I had the budget! I definitely recommend. Gave the raw kumamoto oyster a try as well! Very delicious and not "fishy" at all. It had a very clean brine. You know it's good when you don't have to add sauce :-) My least favorite was the grilled oyster. I'm not sure if I just prefer them raw... but the garlic butter and parmesan cheese overpower the flavor of the oyster too much for me. Since the oysters are itty bitty in size, I definitely would recommend eating them raw instead to enjoy the full flavor profile!

We stopped here last minute at the farmers market about 20 minutes before they closed. We ordered the half and half oyster (6 ct - 3 raw 3 grilled) and a lobster roll. This was the best lobster roll I've ever had and we searched for lobster rolls that met the same standard during our stay in SD and nothing matched. They weighed out the amount of lobster in each roll and it was a GOOD amount. The oysters were 6 ct but they gave us 8, maybe bc they were closing. Everything served was caught fresh the same morning and was delicious.

Grilled Oysters with tapatio and lemon.

Overheard some chatter at the farmers market about these and well...we had to try it for ourselves. We got a dozen of the grilled oysters, added a little lemon and tapatio and they were soooooo bomb. We even got my sister the anti oysters person to try them and she was impressed! This will be our go to spot in SD.

Captain Jack's was absolutely AMAZING at our Engagement Party! Their oysters were so fresh and the shucker was great! We immediately had to book them for our wedding, too, and we are doubly excited because now they have a gorgeous boat table for the oysters! If you love oysters and are looking for a classy way to include them in your party, look no further, Captain Jack's is the way to go! No doubt!

I stopped by the Hillcrest Farmers Market and was drawn to their booth by the smell. O R D E R E D - 1/2 dozen grilled oysters - lobster roll V E R D I C T OMG! their lobster roll is way better than the ones I've tried in the Bay Area. It was so flavorful and you definitely feel like you're getting your money's worth. Their grilled oysters were so good also. If you come across their booth, you gotta try it out! I also wanted their uni but tides were too high, so they didn't have any that day.

Grilled Oysters with Butter and Herb

If you like oysters, well you are going to simply love the grilled oysters that Captain Jack Shellfish Company offers at local Farmer's Markets. One of the many flavor options available are the herb and butter which I had. First of all, hats off to the quality of oysters they offer, because the one I had, were most excellent. The very clean, not grit nor sand, and their flavors were crystal, like an undisturbed ocean. They were also quite succulent and tender and were an ease to eat. The addition of the herb, butter, and Parmesan elevated this oysters flavor to an pure indulgence level. This place is a great place to check out while you are visiting the Little Mercado on Little Italy and Hillcrest Farmers Market. The staff members are supper friendly and knowledgeable.

    Fresh Uni

We found Captain Jack's at the Little Italy Mercato Farmer's Market. The staff was very friendly and the seafood was so fresh. We got the uni and as you can see from the photo, it looked amazing. The uni was so buttery and delicious. I highly recommend a stop here next time you visit the Little Italy Farmer's Market

Butter garlic oyster (cooked), with cheese and parsley with uni on top. I do add a touch of soy sauce and lemon juice.

Little Italy Farmers Market customer: This is such a weekend treat, it's always fresh and made to order. The place is clean and consistent. We order the Uni, raw and cooked garlic butter oysters. We put the uni on top, it's delicious! I recommend traveling with your own chopsticks , it makes it so much easier to eat and enjoy.

Food and catering service were some of our highest priorities to get right during our wedding and Culinary Kitchen was phenomenal every step of the way. Our communication with Ashley and and JP before, during, and after the wedding was exceptional. From the very beginning, Ashley was very responsive and regularly checked in with us, which helped me feel less overwhelmed by all the catering decisions we needed to make. I tend to err on being extremely detail oriented and I asked tons of questions early on. Ashley was so patient and thorough with each email I had sent over even before booking. Before choosing our caterer, we did 3 different wedding caterer tastings and Culinary Kitchen easily was the best of all three (we're still thinking about the gochujang meatballs and the cavatappi pasta with fennel sausage!!). On our wedding day, the food service ran seamlessly and our guests often commented on how good the food was (guests were actually trying to sneak chicken tenders off the kids plates because even the kids meals were so good). Their team also helped us serve our desserts, did our bartending, and rented/placed all of our table settings, all at very reasonable prices as part of the entire catering package. The team also went above and beyond to accommodate all of our guests' special dietary needs while still helping us stay within budget and recommending a cohesive menu. One last thing - we did A LOT of research on different San Diego caterers before our wedding (I think we sent out inquiries to at least 10 other caterers) and Culinary Kitchen's catering packages felt the most "upscale" and comprehensive without leaving us feeling nickel and dimed for every line item. I truly felt like their team was on our side the whole way. THANK YOU Culinary Kitchen for catering our wedding day!! We wish you guys the best of success!

I had guests coming up to me telling me how they quite literally cleaned their plates and went back for seconds. JP really went above and beyond to provide us with the best service and experience. Quality imagination presentation --…read more Four Seasons Food Catering is owned by the marvelous duo Billy Burd and Sierra Ridenour-Burd. They make an amazing team. They catered a party for us at the The Thursday Club in Point Loma in March and dazzled everyone. When we were trying to choose a caterer we were attracted to Four Seasons by the imaginative and creative flair of Chef Billy Burd's cuisine and by their very positive reviews. One thing that caught our attention about the reviews was that many of them were fairly long. Apparently reviewers were not satisfied to give 5 stars and a paragraph of praise, they really wanted to testify. They felt that Four Seasons was special and they were motivated to let you know just how special. After experiencing Four Seasons catering service we can understand that sentiment. The culinary experience Four Seasons provided was marvelous. The dishes were imaginative, taste tempting, and a delight to the eye. Guests loved the appetizers that were passed: shrimp wrapped in basil and pancetta, mushrooms with escargot, parmesan crusted artichoke hearts. The stationary display had a choice assortment of cheeses and a selection of cold seafood that included jumbo shrimp, smoked salmon, ahi poke, and a sashimi platter all beautifully presented. Suffice it to say the buffet was equally spectacular. Chef Billy takes pride in the quality of the products he sources. The filet mignon for example was gorgeous. The shrimp served in the seafood display were so tasty that they made you stop and take notice. This was a once in a lifetime kind of party for us so we pulled out the stops when we were choosing items for the menu. It's very much to Billy and Sierra's credit that part of their response was to say that and they would be happy to offer some more budget friendly variations. We appreciated their inclination to work with clients to find good solutions to their needs. We enjoyed meeting with Chef Billy one time early in the planning process, but other than that, all the planning and coordination was handled by Sierra. She is fantastic and a pleasure to work with. She gave us recommendations on the initial approach to the menu, on down to details like the serving schedule, linens, and the table floor plan. We communicated mostly through email which was very productive because her emails, besides being congenial, were always clear and complete. And it was amazing how quickly she would reply, usually the same day. When it came to the final week before the party and it was time to summarize all the various emails and discussions Sierra nailed it, she recapped everything perfectly. The Four Seasons staff were wonderful. During the set up time they operated like clockwork. During the party they could not have been more charming and gracious. This is another major point to Billy and Sierra's credit. It takes care and effort to assemble a team of this quality--a group of individuals who interface harmoniously not only with the guests, but with each other, and with other vendors such as the florist. The whole event flowed thanks to the staff. When you are planning a special event you hope to create a joyful and memorable experience for all your guests.
