What a nice pontoon boat ride . It was an eco tour ride with lots of information about the river and all the fish in the water . We did get to see many dolphins as well as sharks, turtles , birds and ship reck sail boats . The tour was for two hours and was super chill .

Amazing river cruise today with Captain Hirams river boat tours. Our guide and captain were both SPECTACULAR, very knowledgeable and very informative while also being amazingly humorous and personable. Would DEFINITELY recommend to anyone, local or visitor. Thank you!

    This is a manatee

My wife and I were on the Captain Hirams River cruise at 1 o'clock over the weekend. The boat trip was about two hours, and it was absolutely amazing. We saw dolphins, birds, stingrays, and other wildlife that was pointed out by Chris the second mate on the cruise. The captain did a great job and Chris was awesome. He gave some really good scientific background on the wildlife as well as a history of the area and many other facts. My wife and I were really overjoyed when we got back. We had lunch there at Captain Hirams with 20% gift certificate that they gave us when we assigned up for the cruise . Again, a special shout out for Chris a great tour.

Thoroughly enjoyed our River Cruise with Captain Joe and Josh as our guides. I'm a native Floridian but actually learned a lot of interesting facts from Josh's narration. We were fortunate to see several dolphin, manatee, pelicans, fish, as well as many other estuary birds. Had no idea how light pelicans are as they perch atop thin light Australian Pine branches! Joe and Josh are so familiar with this lagoon and know where to find many dolphin and manatee for viewing. Also the boat was turned multiple ways to allow everyone on board access to great views. Very well done! We would definitely go again next time we visit Melbourne Beach.

They advertise pet friendly but they were sure to kick us out with our 3lb dog and backwards talk about the pet policy

I was visiting my father in the Vero Beach area and we were looking for something fun to do one afternoon. We came across the River Explorer and decided we'd give it a try. We called and Cindy was very friendly and accommodated us at the last minute. We arrived at the dock and were very impressed with the pontoon boat...it was super clean and even had a bathroom!! I've been on a different eco-tour like this before and I was less than impressed. Captain Bill and Cindy greeted us and offered us refreshments....another nice bonus. We hopped aboard and set sail. The river is absolutely gorgeous and we were taking in all of the sights. Captain Bill did a nice job pointing out some wildlife that I never would have seen. He was funny and also knowledgeable about the wildlife and the Indian River area. Our first encounter was an Osprey that had just caught a fish and was flying from tree to tree with the fish in its talons. Very cool! Next up were the dolphins. We could see them in the distance and I got very excited. We were making our way towards them when Cindy spotted a manatee. We got to see the manatee up close and meanwhile, the dolphins were making their way towards us. Again...very cool! Another thing I liked was that Captain Bill was in no hurry to take us back at an exact time. The tour is 2 hours long (I think) but he wanted us to enjoy the wildlife experience. He made sure to check with everyone on the boat to make sure that no one HAD to be back on schedule for other plans. No one needed to go back, so we got extra time out on the water for free. Again...5 stars for the River Explorer. You should check it out! Next time I'm in the Vero area, I might do it again.

Arrived as a walk in and the team got me signed up, schooled on jetski use, and off onto the water efficiently. Jetski was new with lots of power and cool features. Will return here to rent boats again.

I should have seen from the lighter coloration of the water there even with my non-prescription sunglasses so water splashed. Somehow I thought a sandbar couldn't extend so far, nearby fishermen only up to their knees be damned. The sandbar was way wide and there was just no dragging it to deep enough water with my skinny arms. And gunning the motor is useless if it's not submerged in water. I was a jetski novice, obviously, and don't know jack about it but now at least a little more than what I did. The jetskis here top out around 45 mph though just for an instant I did hit 47. Midafternoon isn't the best choice I learned as the Indian River tends to be choppier than in the morning. This didn't bother me much on the way out as I was going with the current but the waves will be rougher on you against the current. And they seemed even rougher still after my sandbar humiliation. I actually found that the ride is the roughest around 30 mph or so and if you come closer to topping it out up in the 40 mphs you'll get a smoother ride. At least if you're going in the same direction as the waves or that was my experience anyway. I rode about 6 miles from the docks and even got to check out a private little island in the river taking a little dip to cool off since I was pretty wet anyway. You might think that's where I beached my jetski but you'd be wrong. Too easy. I got a gnarly bit of sunburn on my normally pasty skin though I've had worse. I did apply sunscreen but only up to my t-shirt line and then opted to go shirtless as they give you a vest anyway. Mistake number two. My upper arms and shoulders were red as a lobster and peeled for days. I also wasn't liberal enough with the sunscreen on the backs of my hands. I had some peeling there as well. The way out was pretty exhilarating and the way back was a trail of tears so learn from my rookie mistakes if you can. I don't know if I'll do this again but I was glad to cross it off the bucket list.
