Just as good as ever. Haven't been to Captain Dusty's for a few years now, so it's good to know that the ice cream is top quality as ever. I got my usual, which is white Russian chip. It's a mocha base with chocolate and white chocolate chips in it. Hubby got black raspberry, which she liked very much. This is an old standby, which is as excellent as ever. The quality of the ice cream is exceptional, and the white staff are always top quality kids. Well worth a trip. read more

This is over priced. The portions are very small.. The cookie dough has virtually no chunks. After searching for a minute, there were some that were the size of a sprinkle. This made it more like vanilla!. read more

My favorite local ice cream stand. I have so many favorite flavors, but chocolate fudge brownie is probably the best ice cream I have ever had. read more

Been getting ice cream at this stand since I could eat ice-cream. (it was dick and June's, then scoops, and captain dustys now for many years). Went down for my annual summer ice-cream to find all of the people working behind the counter unmasked. Imagined these young folks sweating over and breathing on the ice cream they serve. Promptly left. I know the CDC made some poor decisions recently about masks, and that this is a national political debate (unfortunately and stupidly). But this does not need to happen in MA: it's an environment where most are at least receptive to masking and protecting others. Now everyday we read about the delta variant and breakthrough cases. Thank you to Captain Dustys for helping me figure out my boundaries and what I am not ok with. read more

Thank you for being open during COVID-19 and having the creativity to ask customers to use Toast ordering app to submit orders!! You were very accommodating when I asked from my car how to order a Coke float! You brought cheer on spring day! read more

Good products prior to COVID 19 - went this evening and was told that we needed to order via the "app" AND that they were "way backed up" so what happened - NO ICE CREAM! There are bigger issues at this point in time in our lives however they (Captain Dusty's) are making this WAY TO HARD! Here is some help!!!! 1. Paint some "X's" on the ground 2. Have people stand 6 feet apart 3. Serve them 4. Send them on their way Not hard but I anticipate that this once "good ice cream facility" will quickly go down the drain....and it is a shame! read more

Hard working high school and college kids trying to sling cones and dogs. Worth a stop if in the Beverly area on a stop at Endicott College. Old school ice cream store with the walk up windows. Tons of flavors. Froyo as well. Only issue can be parking. The lot is small and on a busy summer night it can get hectic. read more

not the best place to get ice cream. there's nothing that authentic about it imo. it's cheaper and tastier to grab a larger quantity of better ice cream and ingredients elsewhere. read more

This was my first time trying the ice cream here and it was very good. I got a frappe consisting on mocha chip and coffee ice cream. It was nice and thick and creamy. I believe they make all of their own ice cream and I would compare the quality to that of Richardsons. read more

3.5 stars i realized later this isn't the main one people talk about so this review can't speak for all the locations. this one is in the middle of a residential area with just 2 other shops (pizza and yarn shop) surrounding it. there aren't many seats for outside eating but they have a few benches made from 2x4 boards. the ice cream tasted really good but it was melted from the beginning. the freezer might need adjusting. within 60 secs the ice cream started to look like a float. granted it was July but it shouldn't be that quick. we also got a cone but the cone was soft. cones should be crispy, not soft. the prices are comparable to Richardson's but this place was slightly more. a small at Richardson's is $3 flat but the kiddie here was $2.90. not a big diff. they don't have as many flavors but it is a smaller store. cash or check only. overall, it's not a bad option but Richardson's is still the best. read more

In my never ending pursuit of my next ice cream fix I came across this place when I first moved to Beverly. I used to frequent this place fairly often since it's pretty close to where I live. The ice cream is meh. The quantity they serve with their sizes is meh (well it used to be much much better but recently it has become just average; recession perhaps?). The service however has always been stellar; though on occasion you do get a rookie scooper that gets overwhelmed during the summer months, their eyes as big as saucers, as they peer out into crowd of 30 or so eagerly waiting adults and children. My only advice to the rookies: take the frappe orders first! I have since found a much better alternative for my ice cream fix (Cherry Hill Farm. Richardson's is a bit too far for a daily trek). The things that keep me coming back to Captain Dusty's somewhat regularly are their frappes and smoothies. They have some unique takes/creations; my favorite of these unique creations is the Groovy Smoothie: A frozen yogurt (can be made with soft serve vanilla if desired) with banana, strawberries, blueberries, grapes (sans grapes for me). This is made in a flurry form, it's not actually a smoothie, (like the McDonald's McFlurry, which is not too bad for a quick fix when desperate). I also ask for a little bit of honey and the servers are always happy to oblige. They always pile in a generous amount a fruit which for a fruit lover like me is brilliant. Captain Dusty's will always have a place in my heart just for their smoothies and frappes. So the score: 3 stars for their ice cream, 5 stars for their smoothies and frappes. read more

I was disappointed with the ice cream from this place. I ordered a small cup of cookies 'n cream and coffee but it didn't taste authentic! I don't know if they claim to make their own ice cream but the quality was definitely under par. It didn't have that rich, thick, and creamy texture at all. The wafer cones were stale--I was very sad. I would honestly say that Baskin' Robbin's has better ice cream than this place. :( Wah wah. I don't give it a one star because it's not the worst thing I've ever had. But needless to say, I walked away disappointed (as did some of my friends). Also, there were also bumblebees all over the place! My friends were freaking out. So if you're allergic to bees don't go here. read more

Excellent ice cream, good service, huge portions

Very good ice cream from this old-school ice cream stand in toney Beverly Farms. I love the tacky yellow light that buzzes above the ordering windows (I believe they actually serve a purpose--to keep the bugs away). Portions are fairly big, though nothing compared to the size of ice cream at Kimballs in Carlisle, and prices are about what you would expect. This is a real hidden gem on a truly scenic road (Route 127) from Gloucester to Beverly, which makes it a perfect stop on the way back from the beaches of Cape Ann or an evening at a seafood restaurant along the water. read more

Just had a bad experience. Go here 3-5 times a week and it's good. Tall skinny kid serving just spilled my Ice cream and caught it with his bare hand and put it back in cup like I didn't see it and asked what my issue was. Went back up and asked for a new one and told him I would pay and he made me pay for a violated ice cream. This kid has to learn some manners dude. Gross. Pandemic??? read more

Growing up in Beverly Captain Dusty's has been a slew of names, had a few owners... The biggest difference, the current owners have it right. Awesome ice cream, really cheery staff. I love reading those tip jars to see where all those young girls are heading off to college. It makes you want to toss a few dollars in to help them out.. Enough about the extras.. When you get right down to it, there is a reason there's a line to the end of the parking lot. Best ice cream around. Strawberry Oreo is to die for and the Frozen Pudding.. Ohhh ice cream heaven.. I hope Captain Dusty's will be a long standing establishment on the North Shore!! read more

This place consistently serves the best ice cream, and in the biggest portions too. I always get a kiddie in a waffle cone and it is huge. I love it! read more

Wow. The ice cream is incredible. I got Peanut Butter fudge - peanut butter ice cream with fudge swirls. We've been coming here for years but I have to say that they are way overpriced for what you get--about a teaspoons worth of jimmies is worth $0.40? They're not even real candy!! One scoop plus minimal jimmies was $4.96! Very disappointing. read more

a top notch ice cream shop, we grabbed a cone at the Manchester location. staff friendly and helpful, ice cream cones were delicious, well sized, full of flavor, multiple toppings to choose from for a perfect cone at end of the day. ate the cones outside to see sun set toward the harbor and have a dessert. have been to CD's a few times in past and will return in future. read more

This place is awesome. Gigantic ice cream menu. They also have hot dogs. You should be careful not to order too quickly, because you discover more items on their menu after you order. They give as many samples as you'd like. They have incredibly unique flavors, and I think their ice cream is homemade. I tried the ginger flavor, and of course, it tasted just like ginger. It was interesting! Love this new find of mine. read more

Friends dropped by our house the other night and invited us to go out for ice cream, their treat. I still can't believe how terrible the ice cream was here. I don't think I would ever go back. Having had coconut chocolate chip or almond joy in various ice cream stands, I ordered it here. Please believe me, it was flavorless! I could barley detect any coconut flavor, the chocolate chips were small and had no flavor and the almonds were soggy. How does an ice cream stand make such inferior ice cream.?Take a ride to White Farms in Ipswich instead. My husband was thoroughly unhappy with his as well, no flavor, not creamy. read more
