Finding a place to care for your loved one is hard. And believe me, I felt sorry for whoever was…read moregoing to take on my mom because not only am I in deep in healthcare (previously in acute neuro trauma and now in outpatient/hospital admin), but she is heavily SURROUNDED by people in healthcare ranging from directors, doctors, surgeons, and nurses. On top of that she has family who loves and protects her very deeply. Somethings that stood out about ActivCare to me from the rest that made me choose them over the others: 1. There's only 2 levels instead of 5+ levels. You have to have memory issues if you want to live there so there will be no confusion or issues trying to determine which patients need what as the general needs will be similar. 2. You don't get nickel and dimed. Other places might charge for laundry service, food, incontinence, etc etc. not here. You just might have to pay for medications or the beauty salon or doctors. 3. There's a licensed nurse at all hours of the day and wake staff 24 hours. 4. Appropriate staff are constantly cleaning. 5. They usually have daily exercises. 6. There are outings. 7. There is a set daily schedule. 8. There's a tiny putting green if they choose to putt. 9. There's a tiny garden. 10. We could go take food and eat with her whenever we wanted. 11. All of the above was everything we loved, but the cherry on top was that it was THE BEST COST!! What I was scared of: 1. She wouldn't accept it and start declining. 2. She wouldn't adapt. 3. She wouldn't be nice to them. 4. She wouldn't eat the food. 5. She would be mad at us. 6. They wouldn't care for her like we did at home. What actually happened after she became a resident despite her craziness and Sour Patch Kid personality: 1. She relied on them and they comforted her. 2. She ate the food and almost too much that she got the nickname the Cookiemonster. 3. She adapted (we told her it was a private hospital to get stronger since they had exercises everyday and people to help her walk). 4. They accepted her sour moments and loved her anyway. 5. She felt comforted by them and especially by certain people and they would do her hair and paint her nails. 6. She actually got stronger for a bit and actually started socializing and participating. 7. Of course she fell because thats is inevitable but they cared for her the right way each time (and if you think because she lives in a facility that it shouldn't have happened then I'll tell you right now you're never allowed to hire anyone to care for your loved one or send them somewhere to live because that's impossible). 8. I got to see an Elvis impersonator, whole room karaoke, chair exercises, the biggest puzzles of my life, so many things that will now also be core memories for my son. 9. I became her daughter again instead of the stressed and burnt out default extra caregiver since she lived at my house. 10. They loved and cared for her more than I could have ever imagined. My mom's brain cancer eventually took over and even when it enslaved her to be loud and demanding they still loved and cared for her until she couldn't function. Imagine this mixed with memory and dementia issues. It takes a special soul and personality to work in an environment like this; I can save your life but I admittedly am not that person. All of these people are that person and if God gave me back my mom from heaven then I would choose ActivCare Yorba Linda again to help me care for my mom. The care she received makes it 10 times more worth what was paid for her care which was already a great price. If you're reading this sentence and contemplating, I think you know where your family will be going. Tell them the Cookiemonster sent you.

I love that they know Mom and can distract her when she wants to be grumpy. When I call everyone is more than happy to talk to me and tell me all about Mom. Rose, the Executive Director, sits right up front and somehow always notices when we walk in--greeting me by name and truly knowing what's happening in the community. Shannon and Kaylee are always out and about chatting with residents, creating such a warm and connected environment. The special events they host bring families together and make the community feel vibrant and welcoming. They also went above and beyond helping my mom get ready for our son's wedding. They made sure she looked beautiful and felt special for such an important family moment, something we will never forget. The nursing staff under Neha are incredibly caring as well, always checking in on residents and helping those who aren't feeling their best get back out to participate in community activities and events. Their kindness and attentiveness make such a difference. Dan and Mark never hesitate to help, whether it's hanging a new photo or fixing my mom's bed whenever needed. Everyone knows the residents by name and treats them with kindness, patience, and genuine affection. On top of everything else, Bradford is extremely well maintained. Last year the entire exterior was updated, and this year they are installing new carpeting throughout the community. It's clear they continually reinvest back into the property and truly care about creating a beautiful environment for the residents and families. That level of personal attention and heart is rare, and my family is incredibly grateful for Ivy Park at Bradford.

Sami is the marketing director and was very knowledgeable in her field and answered all my questions and concerns. Everyone was warm, professional, and happy to answer questions. It's clear that they genuinely care about the residents and take pride in providing high-quality care and support. While this community is on the pricier side compared to some other options, the cost feels justified given the luxury atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, and the level of personalized treatment and attention residents receive. Much to my huge relief, my parents are genuinely happy and thriving in their new community. They even participate in two standing dinners each week with their new friends! It's no exaggeration that there is truly something for everyone with lots of fun activities, special events, excursions, and many opportunities for residents to interact. There is never a dull moment, and every holiday is celebrated with much fanfare. My quiet, introverted mother has blossomed into a quasi-social butterfly. She can't stop talking about the friendly new people she's met. As a nature lover, she loves her evening walks in the beautifully landscaped grounds. My father enjoys his daily visit to the mailroom and loves chatting with Olga at the front desk who never seems to have a bad day. He's a regular at the gym. He enjoys reading each page of the Weekly Happenings and Monthly Monitor. Both parents love using Morningside's app to review the daily menu before heading down to the restaurant for their meals. The wine offerings are impressive and prices very reasonable! They did notice a slight decline in the food quality/menu options throughout the year, but they said things are starting to improve with the new chef and the switch to a new seafood supplier. The app is easy to navigate and makes entering maintenance/work orders/staff feedback a breeze. Whoever designed the app did a great job because the user-interface is smooth and very intuitive. This is a huge compliment since my parents aren't native English speakers! ;-) A friend from one of their standing dinners is transitioning from independent living to memory care later this month. The group plans to invite him to their weekly dinners as much as possible if/when their meal credits allow. I'm sure Morningside will handle the move with the utmost care and compassion. You can be sure I'll be watching to see how the transition goes and will report back next year. TLDR: If you can figure out a way to make it work, don't hesitate to make the move to Morningside. I'm so happy my parents picked Morningside and wish they hadn't waited so long to make the move!
