This is a chain. I've been to several of these around the old city and they tend to have the best prices for decent groceries. I'm a fan of this one because it is in the Barcelona Merkat--which is like a mini La Boquiria. I can do my one shop grocery shopping and stay by for a farmers' market experience. One can get quite nice produce in the market, but it does cost a lot more--sometimes 2€ for a dozen eggs. I save that stuff for a special occasion.
One observation about Spanish grocery markets: You know how people talk about the conspiracy of the way American supermarkets are set up? It works well because I would just have to walk straight back to get the milk and the farthest left aisle from the door to get a loaf of bread. There's no rhyme or reason to the way things are organized. I spend an inordinate amount of time at Caprabo so I now know where everything is, but before it would take me about an hour to find tea and a bottled water.
Also when you can't figure out how to pronounce Caprabo, it's fun to just call it Crap-Bro. read more
