Good selection, fresh produce, it was a good store, decent prices. I think they must have expanded into several buildings because you'd turn a corner and then there was another 90° turn in another direction with more stuff ! It was pretty cool exploring their space. They also had one of those European flat ground escalators that could take a shopping cart up and down as the store was two levels. I didn't need any help, but there were plenty of employees, stocking shelves, etc.

When I travel, I like spending some times just walking thru a local grocer. I had a cart and probably spent almost an hour here looking at the different types of wines, picos camperos and cheeses. I was perusing thru the deli counter and saw all types of meat and wanted to pick up some items at the counter. The lady at the counter started talking to me and I said my usual 'hola', I knew this conversation would go beyond that, so I think she started explaining the difference to me between Jamón Serrano and Jamón Ibérico. I didn't want to break the wallet so I took out my phone and used Google Translate to make sure I was getting some reasonable prices Jamón. After the store manager came out trying to figure out what I was asking, I did get what I was looking for twenty minutes later (see photo of that vacuum packed goodness!). I brought it back to the room and took the rest with me to the Sagrada Família. I recommend checking this market out if you eat nearby at Cerveceria Catalana.

The ham that was aged longer was easier to chew with less resistance. We decided to purchase the highest quality aged 5 years, which was less salty, but robust in meaty flavor. It was absolutely delicious with rustic French bread from the bakery close to our hotel. If you're sightseeing near Casa Batllo, it's only a 3-5 minute walk around the corner! We're not iberico ham connoisseurs and I'm not sure whether or not we could tell the difference between high end or mid range iberico ham. They're all very good! We probably could have gotten some less pricey ones from the markets and would have been just as satisfied. But nonetheless, it was nice to buy something luxurious to enjoy while in Spain.

The store is large, but the layout just seems to make sense, so I didn't struggle to find what I was looking for, the language barrier caused the only issues, but I managed to sort everything out using the translate app on my phone. The store seemed fairly modern through the aisles; prices were no more expensive than anywhere else in Spain, although many items seemed to be priced much higher than I'd expect to pay back home in the UK. The checkout area could use a little extra work, though. The quality of the fresh fruit and meat looked very good, which is something I find so appealing in Europe, although I was unable to make the most of it on my trip. 4*
