Every year since high school my friends and I have gone on a summer roadtrip as a way to catch up and spend time together. To celebrate graduating from college, we decided to vacation in Vermont. After arriving, we went out to buy some drinks before watching the USA face off against Belgium (maybe drinks would've made that a more tolerable watch). Unfortunately, the clerk Trevor (claiming to be the owner) did not believe my friend's and my IDs were real. I guess he didn't read the line that says "Under 21 until 06/19/2025." While well within his rights as a store owner to be skeptical and double check, the way with which he dealt with us was extremely unprofessional and rude. Instead of bending the IDs end-to-end, he completely folded them in half (and in half again for mine). Both of our IDs are irreversibly creased and unusable. While sitting on hold with the non-emergency police line, Trevor was clearly agitated and vocally inconsiderate of our time (he liked the line "I can do this all night"). After simply asking for an ETA on the police arriving, he was visibly upset and irritated, shutting down my requests and eventually scurrying away to a back room (I think Trevor started realizing that underage kids don't typically stand around waiting for and demanding that police show up). Before reluctantly returning our IDs, he appeared to try flattening them out (maybe in a sad attempt to avoid a vandalism charge). I have no intent to press charges since this was well within Trevor's rights as a store owner. However, an apology for making us wait nearly half an hour for our destroyed IDs is the least Trevor could've done. Instead, we received his condescending, self-righteous tone and were told "I could care less about your time", "I do this every day." If you are traveling to Colchester, Vermont (which has otherwise been an amazing vacation), I would steer clear of Cap 'n Cork unless you want to experience a power trip from their cashier Trevor, who seems to prefer spending his time on hold with the police rather than ringing up legal, paying customers. read more
