There are some really cool displays here and you get to walk around on your own and take as much time as you want. My kids love Legos and this was totally worth the trip. Plus it was way cheaper than the Legoland discovery centers and my kids still loved it. Before you judge, yes we've been to LDC's - five locations in four states. This place could use a good cleaning and better lighting but my kids didn't notice any of that. They noticed the Spider-Man and the Statue of Liberty and all the other displays built with Legos! I was definitely impressed by some of the things they had on display. This is a fun place to check out even if you don't have kids.

I was in a few shows when I lived here and I saw many more - always enjoyable productions. There's usually a show every 1-2 months. If you're interested in theatre, you'll definitely want to see or audition for a show at Towngate, part of the Oglebay Institute. They do a fair mix of shows-everyone-has-heard-of, obscure stuffs and original work.

Their snack bar was okay. It's really the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5. I was very glad they had coffee, but the cup was really small. I would have paid more for a larger cup. I might have had tea, but they only offer Lipton tea bags. Towngate is trying to raise funds for repairs on their building, so I know they can't spend an arm and a leg on refreshments. However, I wonder if they could get some donations from one of the local coffee shops, sell the beverage for more, and raise more funds. All in all, still looking forward to seeing more movies there, and I will still order a coffee (maybe two).

A Memorable Return to Black Sheep Vineyard - 7 Years Later…read more It's been about seven years since our last visit to Black Sheep Vineyard, and I've had the itch to return ever since. I'm so glad we made the trip back--it was even better than I remembered. Right from the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a welcoming and light-hearted atmosphere. The gentleman running the tasting room--who I believe is the owner--has a friendly, witty sense of humor that made the experience that much more enjoyable. At one point, someone told him, "We Googled wineries near me and this one popped up, so we drove over from Flushing." His deadpan response? "Sorry to hear that." We all had a good laugh. We were able to taste whatever we wanted, and I dove right in. I started with the Leighton, a dry white made from Seyval Blanc grapes--crisp, smooth, not overly tart, and just delicious. I ended up taking a bottle home. Fun fact: in 2018, this wine was $12.95, and now it's $15.95--only a $3 increase over seven years. Not bad at all for a wine of that quality. Next up was the Traminette, a semi-dry white with lovely spicy notes and a touch of citrus. Then the Riesling--aromatic, semi-sweet, and incredibly refreshing. I shifted gears to reds with the Vivian, a dry red made from Frontenac grapes, named after the owner's wife's parents. It's aged first in stainless steel and then for 60 days in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. It has a smooth, unique finish with a slight tartness that really worked well--I even grabbed a glass of it to enjoy after my tasting. From there, I tried the Cabernet Franc, a lighter-bodied dry red aged in American oak barrels. It had a beautiful spice and peppery aroma--complex, yet very drinkable. Then came the Dark Continent, a bold and smoky dry red made from Marechal Foch grapes. Earthy and robust, this one's a must-try if you like darker, deeper reds. Finally, I had a sample of Hair of the Dog, a semi-sweet red blend made from Frontenac and other French hybrid grapes, also aged in American oak. It had a nice smoky backbone with a pop of berry sweetness at the finish--a really fun and flavorful wine. I learned that some of their grapes are sourced from Erie, PA, and I'm not quite sure what varietals they grow on-site, but it's clear they take pride in crafting each wine with care. Black Sheep Vineyard is definitely worth the visit--whether you're stopping by for a tasting or simply want to share a glass with a friend. The wines are solid across the board, the staff is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxed and filled with personality. Can't wait to come back again--just hopefully not in another seven years!

They did a good job manufacturing it and I like it a lot, despite having only been here twice and they were more than a decade apart. And the Wheeling Nailers play here. Bob Marley would be proud of the Wheeling Wailers. Oh wait. Well if you want to get nailed, maybe ask the Nailers. So this is an excellent sports team in a small city that deserves a sports team. They get plenty of support from the locals, and if you want to show local pride, come and check out a game and see grassroots sport in America. And it's pretty cheap too.

There are three floors of Civil War memorabilia, West Virginia things and ... honestly, I think I'm like my children, because I didn't read any of the information either. But I know if you want to learn more about West Virginia, this is the place to do it. I mostly just enjoyed walking around, looking at the old furniture, peeking out of the windows and observing all of the nicely preserved historical objects that the museum has so lovingly displayed for everyone to see. This is a beautiful museum, and there's so much to see and learn about that I'm kind of shocked it was free to visit. There was one woman working there when we visited. It's a quiet little museum, so one person working there seemed right. I could tell that she really wanted us to ask questions -- she had a lot of West Virginia knowledge rattling around in her head. Unfortunately for her, my family was only there to push buttons and touch things and gaze out of the windows, so she retreated back to her desk and let us peruse freely. We had a good time at West Virginia Independence Hall, and stayed maybe 30 minutes. But I could see other people staying an hour or more, especially if you are really into history, and you take your time to absorb all of the information that's available.

Inside there is 3 levels. Top level is the courtroom, were the convention was held to declare, argue and vote on making a new State and breaking away from Virginia. It was here that West Virginia was born. Second levels there are various rooms stuffed full of historical memorable items. First floor there are some civil war informative displays, an old post office and a riverboat display. In the basement, bathrooms and theatre to watch a 18 minute brief film narrates how this all became about. This was originally the Old Custom House.

The games are also packed with entertainment where fans get the chance to play for prizes, and don't miss the $1 chocolate chip cookie and milk combo, yes both for $1, behind home plate in the middle of the game. They will sell out so get in the line early. Concessions overall are so fairly priced, such as eight dollars for some interesting funnel cake fries (Reese's or Fluffernutter toppings) and $5 for a soft serve ice cream in a size you won't believe. In all this is a really fun night out! Very nice ballpark, too. My only small complaint is that they need a couple more vegetarian and/or GF options at the food stands. We had one of each dietary need in our crowd and all the GF person could eat were french fries or waffle fries, and as a vegetarian my choices were pretty much sweets, soft pretzel or snack pierogies which I am assuming are going to be Mrs. T's, while others have so many choices of different types of sandwiches etc. Maybe get a pizza vendor in here and offer some GF hot dog buns; it's a pretty frequent dietary need these days.
