I was a patient at Capitol Hill Internal Medicine for over ten years, being seen and treated by both Dr. Paley and Dr. Sykes, respectively. When they merged their practice with Exempla and moved their office four blocks away, my wife and II followed them, happy with the care we had both been receiving. Little did I know how much things would change once they came under the auspices of "Exempla" and it's corporate policies. When Dr. Paley retired, my care was transferred to Dr. Lund. She saw me once and then not a month after I first saw her ($250 BTW), I called in to get my prescription filled (90mg MS Contin daily) and I was told Dr. Lund was no longer with Exempla and that another doctor would handle my prescription. The following day, I got a telephone call from a nurse practitioner (achem..) there at Exempla who informed me that they would be cutting my prescription in half, and that after this partial refill, I would need to find a pain management specialist and take my business there as Exempla would no longer be treating chronic pain. Well, by cutting my precription in half, I basically had only ten business days to get in and be treated by another doctor. Not to mention, they knew I was working out of town when I got the phone call so the possibility of even finding a new doctor, in another city, on such short notice was virtually nil. No notice, no referrals, no help whatsoever. Good grief. My veterinarian gave me more notice before he retired and was much more helpful in finding me a suitable replacement for the care of my dog than Exempla was about helping me. I used to recommend Capitol Hill Internal Medicine to anyone that would ask. Not anymore. They left me hanging out to dry in a bad way and I would not trust them with my healthcare ever again. read more
