This is how this physician reacts when you decide to go somewhere else because they can not schedule you for an appointment until 2020. Not my fault they are short handed and kept making excuses in regard to scheduling. And... they send the letter certified mail for me to sign. Notice the date, it came today, over one month later. Visited this office more times than probably normal since I had a twin pregnancy. Office staff was always friendly and accomodating when I was there, and when scheduling appointments. The office is extremely clean and nicely decorated. There is a TV in the waiting room, as well as bottled water for patients. Ultrasound technicians were amazing. So friendly and personable, and kept me informed during their scans. Even provided me with a disk of all ultrasound photos to update at each appointment. Both Dr. Burstyn and Fickies were wonderful. I saw them both throughout my pregnancy, and Dr. Fickies ended up being on call the day my water broke and performed my C-section. She has a very calm demeanor, but also seemed genuinely excited for us before and after delivery. Dr. Burstyn was at Bellevue every day checking up on me, making sure my incision was healing properly, and also checking up on my babies in the NICU. I cannot say enough great things about this practice, and will continue to visit their office for my annual OBGYN visits. read more

I have been going to this practice for many years and recently have decided to look for health care elsewhere due to the lack of competency from their staff at the front desk and also their nurses. I left a message on their nurse line for a call back pertaining to a script for a Mammography and after a week .... no call back. I called the office again to request a script and was told it would be taken care of. Every time I would get someone on the phone , wether it was a front desk person or transferred to a Nurse , I was told that my request would be taken care of. When I would call Image care to schedule my Mammography, they had no record of my script. I would then call back to the office and they'd tell me again that they'd take care of faxing my script right away. This went on from 4/12 through 4/26. I was even told that a nurse was going to personally hand deliver the script downstairs to Image Care. Needless to say it never happened. Four different employees stated they would take care of it and no one did. I had requested to speak with the office Manager but was told "she wasn't in". This isn't the first time for experiencing things like this. My daughter also had issues with this office concerning medication refills and test results and has since also left this practice. My Doctor ended up leaving the practice at some point and I was never notified. On the day of my Annual they had a PA who was "filling in" for the day , she gave me my exam and I left there bleeding. I did pass that information onto a front desk person to make sure that I would never have to see that visiting PA again. I experienced rudeness and curtness from more than one staff member over the years. They are not accommodating at all , especially if you're trying to schedule your annual and your Mammo for the same day because both offices are in the same building. I have worked in the Medical Field for close to thirty years and do not understand how an office can run the way this office does. There is no follow through , no consistency and certainly no professionalism. The only reason I stayed as long as I did is because I only have to go once a year. I have since made an Appointment elsewhere and will never be back to Capital Region OBGYN. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Burstyn's for almost 15 years. Over the course of the past few years, I could tell that the office staff had changed and were not as friendly as they were even 4 years ago. My breaking point was when I called to get test results since I had not received a letter within 4 weeks of the procedure. I called 3 times and was always put through to the nurses VM. The third call the receptionist told me she would personally hand my message to a nurse. My fourth phone call, I left a voice message for Dr. Burstyn, asked her to call me and let her know that I had called 3 times and left messages for nurses. The next day I received a call from the nurse letting me know that the test came back negative. I still have not received a phone call back from Dr. Burstyn, She will get one more phone call from me when I let her know that I will leave her practice and will not be recommending her to anyone. Find a practice that has good customer service and cares about their patients. read more

Office staff is insensitive and condescending, and they care more about getting your money than your wellbeing.

This practice is poorly run. They promise you will meet all the doctors before delivery, but you do not. They are extremely poor at keeping or referencing records and were consistently unaware of my wife's thyroid problem. They recommended a planned c-section but never followed up in scheduling, even though we kept reminding them during our weekly visits near the end of the pregnancy. This led to a surprise call from the hospital for a last minute pre-op meeting (the hospital was surprised as well). There is one thing that this practice is good at: taking your money. In fact, they are so good that they overcharged us over $450, and at one point we were overpaid for a few weeks by over $600. This happens because at every visit they demand you pre-pay for the services and do not take into account any overpayments. Multiple calls to their office did not get us our money back. The only way we were able to get our refund was to show up at their office, at which point they weren't able to ignore us. As a last note, the care during the birth followed right in line with our experiences leading up the birth. We made the mistake of sticking with them. Please don't do the same to yourself. read more

No bedside manner; she is somewhat cold. She wrote the wrong script for the imaging she wanted done, causing me to lose leave time at my job because the imaging office couldn't do what she wanted. I had made an appointment for what she told me to and when the staff saw the script they said they had to reschedule me because those appointments are made on certain days when the technician who knows how to operate that machinery is available. When I called Burstyn's office and explained the problem I never received an apology. I left her and went to another doctor who actually cares about her patients, not just their wallets. read more

I am 22 weeks I am having to look for a new doctor because I will not be returning there. The receptionist were the only welcoming people there. I saw a different doctor each visit and with a thyroid issue, I had to re-explain myself in every single visit. I explained that I had a doctor for my thyroid problem and they still continue to test me there and send me a bill of $1000! (Note: I was also being tested at my Endocornologist for the SAME thing and also getting billed there.) They were submitting claims that were not in my policy and making me pay each visit. After calling the billing center AND my insurance company, they informed me that the only thing they could do was set a payment plan to get it all paid instead of having to pay each visit. Wow! What a great way of still demanding money instead of helping solve the issue!! Horrible! I do not recommend this office! Terrible service. read more

I have been a patient of theirs since 2009. I found the office to be clean and the PA's were great, however, the office staff, not a fan of. Not only does this practice worry more about when they get paid than actually treating their patients, I find the staff to be rude. I don't agree with the front desk asking for hundreds of dollars upfront to cover what they feel is a guesstimated deductible amount. They speak about payment in front of all other patients waiting in the room. They want their money upfront, and if you do not have it, they will not allow you an appointment. With both my pregnancies, I had to come in the office more than normal. One child they thought wasn't growing enough, the 2nd was due to gestational diabetes, both issues caused me to come in for more sonograms and stress tests than a normal pregnancy. I was asked at EVERY visit for nothing less than $150. There were times I had to come in 2 times a week, and every time, a question of payment was always present. Don't get me wrong, I get they need to make their money. And I paid them, I was never late, nor did I owe a balance. With the way health insurance is now, most of us have HSA or HRA accounts to pay our medical expenses. The issue I have is, the bill should be submitted to insurance first, then speak on the balance due. In fact, don't SPEAK in the office, send your patient a bill. This practice makes you pay first, ask later. When it came time to have my 2nd child, I found out Dr. Tyre had left the practice. She was the reason I came back. I only stayed because I had a medical history with them. But the 2nd time around was worse. Appointment times where way out day of appointment. There were times I sat in the waiting room for 3hrs AFTER my appointment time came and went before I was seen. When you called the nurses line, they took almost a whole day to call back, sometimes, didnt even call back and I'd have to call again. After my son was born, I had my 2 week follow-up. I was told while I was pregnant I should have a 2 week and 6 week follow-up but the office staff never scheduled me for the 6 weeks. When I called to ask about changing my birth control, they said they cannot do it over the phone and I would have to come in. They said they saw a 6 week was never scheduled, so they ask to schedule one then so I did. When the appointment time came, I forgot day of. I was at work, it was a busy day and it just skipped my mind. Ok, we are all human....right? Well not with this practice. They called me at the appointment time asked if I was coming, I apologized and said I forgot about it. They asked when I can reschedule for. I told them I didn't know at the moment and would have to call back. About 2 weeks after that time had past, I received a $100 cancellation fee charge. $100...for not showing up? Should I charge them $100 for waiting 3hrs in the waiting room for MY missed scheduled time??? Not only that, but when I called about a refill of a prescription, I had to once again call the nurses line 3 times in one week for them to call me back. When they did, they told me I was dismissed from the practice due to not rescheduling my 6 week appointment!!!! I never in my life heard of such a thing. Not only did they not tell me in any way until I called to refill a script, but the way in which it was done, was beyond rude. My balance with the practice is ZERO, my rate of missed appointments was only this one, and yet here I stand, thrown out of the practice like I'm some kind of criminal. Not only do I feel insulted, but I feel violated as well. I will NEVER recommend anyone for this practice. To be treated with such disrespect for no reason is appalling. read more

Office staff to include the medical records, the Asian lady are rude and condescending don't know her name who never tends to not give me my credit from my insurance that is due to me. They order Ultrasound that is not even necessary, I'm not pregnant. I also had a doctor there that when I had an issue with my private area she wanted me to use my hand to show her what area ! wth ! never in my years had a gyn doctor asked me to do this. I was appalled and complained about this. Now I'm switching providers because I relocated and my doctor is requesting the records and they want to charge me $93 dollars for my entire records. Anything to make money off of me, they do this all the time. On every visit, its never a no copay visit. I always end up paying and with my plan being a State worker some of this should be covered. read more

I suffer from extreme endometriosis, I went to the EM rm in my area, the pain, bleeding was unbearable. So after the nice ER Dr. saw me ( which I was there for 9 hours) I been bleeding from June -August 2016 then stop then back at it. So before I go my discharge papers, I was advised that someone from the Dr. office will be calling me to make an app. So this was on a Fri. Mon comes along I am in pain and called in sick, I am weak and sleeping all day. So I check my VM that said so were just wanting to know if your running late for your app that was @ xxxxx time. First of all no one ever called me to say : were calling from toy Dr. office it came to our attention that you were in the ER and would like to schedule in for today. Could you come in? Nothing. So since I work in the building that the Dr. office is in I go in the next day and say. I received a VM from this office and sorry I really don't understand. She stated your App was @ XXX time and you did not show up. Wait, wait hold the phone. First of all you do not understand what I'm going thru. So I asked if I could schedule an app. Let me go back, when I was speaking with one of the receptionists who was actually decent, then one of the other receptionist interrupts the conversation I was having with the other rep and states in a condescending tone I was the one who called you, oh ok I said and she says you miss the app. I said I am here making an app. I was in to much pain and sleep all day and didn't check my VM until after the fact. My app was scheduled and she said it going to be $100 fine as I call it because I missed the app. I cannot afford to pay $100 before a Dr. see me. That's crazy. So I am still in pain, bleeding and they are the only OBGYN in the building that I work. There use to be one in building 713 and there no longer. I would wish this on anyone. I hate that they have done this to me. Shame, Shame on this office as a whole. read more

Call a different OB. Really. They have too many patients and cannot, or will not, properly care for each of them. I recently began prenatal care here with lots of concerns due to a procedure I had during the pregnancy (before I found out I was pregnant). The procedure was very dangerous for the fetus. I had the doctor who performed the procedure forward all of the meds and info on the procedure to Cap Reg OB-GYN. The info was not ever put in my file. I explained the detals to my OB -the concern of risk for miscarriage or deformities was confirmed, but treated nonchalantly. Most everything is treated very nonchalantly there. Had concerning bloodwork come back, went 3 more times to monitor. Each time I had to call repeatedly to get the updated results. Meanwhile I received multiple voicemails from the office to ask if I had given more thought to the optional, $1,000.00 genetic testing that can predict what diseases your baby may one day develop. Neat, but how about ensuring the baby is going to make it to birth first? I asked them to stop calling about the genetic testing. They did, and instead I received genetic testing pamphlets in the mail. The referral bonus i'd get them from the genetic lab is important to them, but apparently my health isn't. Still waiting on test results from 11/18, and currently waiting on a call back to be seen due to severe abdominal pain. I called this morning, told them, was put on hold, and was hung up on. I called back, was told to leave a message, and still have not received a call. If you need prenatal care, call someone else. I do not feel confident that they are giving me appropriate care. Dr. Burstyn delivered both of my children. One of my pregnancies was extremely high risk and I also had to go to Dr. Margono at St. Peter's who is also amazing. In my opinion there are very few physicians out there who can match her professionalism, caring, and ethics. Would strongly recommend her to anybody! read more

I had recently moved to the area when I started having abnormal bleeding. I chose to make an appointment at capital region obgyn after an online search for an obgyn in albany. I give this place 2 stars because everyone I dealt with in the office was very nice. No complaints on bedside manner but outside of that, I can't recommend. I could get nitpicky with all the details but there is only one main reason I wont be going back: they told me I was fine. I'm 28 and have had my period for almost 20 years now- soaking through an ultra tampon and an overnight pad every hour was not normal for me. Anyway, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and planned to return for my annual but during a routine visit with my primary care doctor (a few months later) I mentioned that my periods were still very heavy. She recommended a simple ultrasound and I now know that I have a large tumor in my uterus. I've found another obgyn to do the surgery. read more

We had a wonderful experience with Dr. Burstyn and Dr. Fickies as our OB. I had a complicated pregnancy (fibroid factory and other high risks) and therefore had a lot of appointments and questions. The nursing staff were extremely knowledgeable but also new when to check in with the doctors. Dr. Burstyn is my GYN who I specifically went to because she is known in the area as one of the best high risk OBs. Because I had so many appts and needed conveniently scheduled appts. I began to see Dr. Fickies as well. Both were always helpful. The day of my scheduled c-section Dr. Fickies arrived early and literally excited for us. When she showed up her energy wiped away all of my fears and concerns. Every time I mentioned Dr. Burstyn's name the hospital staff said it would turn out great and she doesn't play around - makes sure the other staff are on the up and up. Since it was a high risk csection both doctors were there . The two make quite the team. Dr. Burstyn's reputation was spot on and Dr. Fickies energy slowed me to feel more excited than nervous. Bonus-csection scar is neat & fading fast. Will definitely stay as a client for gyn and OB if we have another. Very happy and recommend all the time. Down side is it often takes awhile in the waiting room before you are called in BUT when you are in there no one rushes you. Personally I would prefer to not get rushed out over getting rushed in. read more
