Several years ago went to Navy Federal with a check…read morefrom my insurance company for wind damge for about $8k, made out to me and Navy Federal as I had a mortgage with them. Wanted to deposit the check in Navy Federal to pay down the mortgage. Navy Federal would not deposit the check until I filled out forms, and provided evidence that the repairs would be done. I never missed a payment in over 2 decades. My balance was $15k. If they would have cashed the check it would be about $7k, or about 3% for a house would appraise at $300k. Taked to several representatives. No common sense or consideration. Paid the mortgage off. Got the letter. Sent it and the check back to the insurer and got money sent only to me. Should have quit then. Recently went to Reston branch to get cash from savings. Always before the teller counts the money in front of you. Not this time. Just got handed the bills. Put it in my pocket. Took it out at home. Was $20 short. Called, initially told they would credit my account. But shortly thereafter was called and told their camera system showed I got the full amount. Later, when closing our 3 accounts. Learned the the camera is over the tellers desk. It couldn't have verified the amount as i was handed a stack of bills. Turns out they have a mechanical bill counting system that they consider infallible. You're supposed to trust them 100% while their trust in you is zero, even after 40+ years.

In particular, I have been very impressed with the service of a special employee, Fatiha Lahrach. She always recognizes me, remembers my name and always shepherds me through whatever special needs I may have. Most recently, I went to her immediately when I discovered I had lost a deposit slip (with all my pertinent information filled out on it) somewhere between my house and the Fern Street bank branch. Without batting an eye, she closed my account, opened another one and totally protected my funds. When I say Burke & Herbert has a heart, Ms. Lahrach is a fine example of the "warmth" of that heart!

My recent transaction of procuring a cd required two taxi rides for me, and I still received an incomplete copy of the paperwork. Information was incorrect and had to be redone ergo the second visit. I received a call from the area manager which was past due but addressed my complaints. She answered every question, offered solutions, and was just the person to talk to. I assured her that I had no intention of leaving B&H. However, I did call the call center afterwards to ask a question. In my packet of paperwork for the cds, I was not given a copy of the papers I signed designating beneficiaries as well as designating power of attorney on my accounts. I was told by a bank staff member that normally the bank does not give copies out to the owner of acccounts. I replied that I needed copies and he agreed to send them. The call center lady said "of course you get copies of anything you sign". Communication of Bank policy problem which needs to be addressed immediately. The area manager I'm sure will take care of this issue. She was the bright spot in this situation.

That's such a long time, yet there's not much I can really say about this place. I don't love it, yet I don't hate it - very ambivalent. I can say that the employees here are a little more friendly at this location compared to Fair Lakes - at least they smile more. Overall, they're efficient. I've never had any real issues with the employees and there's never been any error with my account - that's a solid plus.

I am really glad I did!! I am embarrassed to say that we had not balanced our United checking account in a very, very long time. Ms. Sue Khaldieh spent a great deal of time with me, helping me reconcile the account. She was patient, knowledgeable, efficient, and a great pleasure to deal with. And I think we were both pleased that there was more money in the account than was reflected in our check register. So I not only want to thank her and hopefully get her a few 'brownie points' with her boss, but also to promise that when our CD matures at another bank in the near future, I will be contacting Ms. Khaldieh to see if United can offer a better %. If it is better, or even equal to the current rate, I will transfer the money to United. Customer service does not get any better than my experience with Ms. Khaldieh. Shukran!
