I've wore glasses and contacts as long as I can remember, and couldn't figure out why I was having issues all of a sudden. When I first went to My Eye Doctor to find out why my vision was blurred, they couldn't really figure it out. Thankfully Dr. Nguyen diagnosed the issue immediately. Since I'm younger (mid 40s) to have cataracts, I was certainly concerned with making the right decision to make a correction. Dr. Nguyen was extremely helpful in educating me and informing me of all my options when it comes to cataract surgery and all the different options for new lenses (IOLs). Of course I researched by reading several articles, watching videos, and reviewing tons of marketing by the different companies. I probably wasted a lot of time with all of that as ultimately, I found that I just needed to put my trust in Dr. Nguyen. She is up to date with all the new technologies, and is certainly well respected in the ophthalmology community. I really appreciate all the time she spent with me making sure I understood all of the benefits, side effects, and costs of all the different options when it comes to cataract surgery. Eventually, I opted to have a multi-focal lens implanted so that I wouldn't be dependent on wearing glasses as it helps you with seeing at a distance, intermediate, and reading. I didn't like the idea of seeing halos at night when driving, but Dr. Nguyen explained how there is no perfect lens, that will compare to the capabilities of our natural lenses. I struggled with making the decision, but know that she helped me make the best decision. I had my first surgery on my right eye at the end of 2020, and then a second surgery on my left eye in April of 2022 (after the cataract in my left eye eventually progressed). Everyone at her office was also VERY HELPFUL and kind with scheduling and answering all my questions, especially Nikki! Shortly after the first surgery I probably overreacted to some normal side effects, and thought maybe I had a retina detachment after watching You-Tube videos about it. She came in to her office on her day off, and had a retina specialist also come in to make sure I was ok. They were able to put my concerns at east and confirm I was ok. I really appreciated that. Even though cataract surgery is very common, I was still nervous about it. Both surgeries was well, and I was pleased to hear Dr. Nguyen say it was "text book" right after she finished. In talking with one of the nurses as I was wheeled out to our car, she commented on how if she were to pick an eye surgeon she would definitely work with Dr. Nguyen; and she sees all the local doctors there at the surgical center. That just helped reaffirm I had made the right decision. Now I can see great out of both eyes and no longer need to wear contacts or glasses, which is awesome!

Several years ago, after going through the evaluation process for refractive surgery, I chose PRK…read moreover LASIK because I wanted to avoid the long-term risk of a LASIK flap becoming displaced. Looking back, I was not adequately informed about one of the most significant limitations of excimer laser vision correction, and I deeply regret not pursuing legal action at the time. The excimer laser typically creates a fully corrected optical zone of around 6.5 mm, with the surrounding tissue blended into the untreated cornea using what is commonly referred to as a "blend zone." The purpose of this transition is to reduce the sharp boundary between treated and untreated tissue. However, the blend zone is not fully corrected tissue. If your pupils dilate beyond the effective optical zone in dim lighting, as mine do, you have an increased risk of experiencing starbursts, halos, glare, and light streaking at night. The blend zone did not prevent those symptoms. Despite being characterized as an unlikely outcome during the consent process, I have lived with those symptoms ever since. I also experienced a complication after surgery when the protective bandage contact lens placed over my cornea slipped. The vision in my right eye became noticeably hazy, and the pain was unlike anything I had experienced before, which makes sense given that the cornea is the most densely innervated tissue in the human body. When I raised concerns with Dr. Anh Nguyen, they were simply dismissed. I was told there was no visible scarring despite the persistent haze I was experiencing, and that response never aligned with my own experience or subsequent vision. The potential for persistent nighttime visual disturbances is disclosed in the consent waiver you sign before surgery. They were presented as remote possibilities rather than meaningful tradeoffs that many patients should seriously consider. The paperwork acknowledged them, but the overall impression I walked away with was that they were exceedingly rare and unlikely to occur. By contrast, the therapeutic bandage contact lens--or the possibility of it slipping and causing lasting visual consequences--was never referenced or explained to me in any way. Meaningful informed consent requires patients to fully understand the realistic possibility of permanent nighttime vision changes and other complications before deciding to undergo an elective procedure. Whether the manner in which these risks were presented was the result of negligence, an overly optimistic view of the procedure, or a desire to encourage patients to proceed, I cannot say. What I do know is that the potential consequences I ultimately experienced were not communicated to me in a way that allowed me to make a truly informed decision.

Let me start by saying my first visit with this doctor was amazing…read more However all interactions after this were not with the doctor and instead with office staff. --- I had to contact the office multiple times for lab and x ray results but dismissed this as a fluke --- For my follow up visit, where I needed to talk about my medication management and current pain levels I was denied access to care due to my need for ADA parking which was limited due to construction and damage in the parking garage. I tried for two weeks to make a complaint to corporate and they have not returned any of my calls to ensure that I have what is needed medically for my care. They couldn't even pretend to resolve it by saying if I pay this unfair fee I can be seen right away ---- I arrived 20 minutes early but was unable to locate handicap-accessible parking to fit my vehicle due to construction and blocked spaces in the nearby garages. While searching for parking, I called the office around 10:00 a.m. to inform them of my situation and ask whether I could still be seen by being worked in or did they want me to reschedule. I was transferred between three different call center representatives before finally connecting with someone. I have attached a photo I took today because I had to return to this same building to see another provider. The spots are still blocked off and not van accessible to allow for access for a person in a wheelchair like my son. By the time I found a parking spot at 10:20 am, I was told not to come in by the call center staff and that I would be charged a no-show fee, despite being on the phone with their call center for over 20 minutes trying to get help. At no point did I attempt to miss the appointment, I was actively trying to attend and communicate with the office because this is important for me to try to get a handle on my own health care. I explicitly asked them to put me through to the office and verify that I could not be seen. I was told no one answered the phone and also that they answered and said no... contradicting what the office manager later said. When the office manager, Jasmine Jackson, contacted me the following day, she stated that the office would have been able to see me had the call center communicated that I was waiting outside, but I was told not to come in by them even though I explicitly asked to be seen multiple times. Jasmine went further to blame me, suggesting that I should have parked in a lot a few blocks away behind a Tiffany's store. I am not familiar with the area, and I chose the two garages nearest the building and then street parking, because I was concerned about my ability to walk farther with my adult son, who has limited mobility and is difficult to push in a wheelchair, especially given my own back and extremity pain that limits my ablity to walk long distances. I also spoke with Kelly in the business office and Stacey in the call center, both of whom said they would follow up with me regarding this issue. Neither has contacted me as promised, demonstrating a continued lack of responsiveness from the office. I am concerned now that I have been abandoned for care because they are prioritizing this no show fee for an appointment I begged to attend as soon as I figured out how to safely get my son and I inside over my actual health status, knowing my medical condition impacts a vulnerable person who relies on my care.

Not once was I ever told the cost of services prior to any visit. This goes against the No Surprises Act of 2022. I have already reported One Medical to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. I have requested they adjust my bill accordingly, but I keep getting bills via email and mail. I even called at the beginning of 2022 to confirm my new insurance was accepted, and they confirmed it was. They used to be an amazing practice, but things have severely changed. I will not be renewing my membership even though I've been a member for years.

I chose Dr. Timothy Lee as my pcp and also see NP Michelle Patterson regularly for wellness checks. I also saw Dr. Jillian Noyes once when the others were not available for a last minute rush appointment. I've been so happy with every member of the health care team who has treated me. I feel like the team spends more time with patients than at my previous practice. Bloodwork, prescription refills, referrals to specialists, follow up...it's all done quickly. The staff is friendly, the offices are clean and fresh, and it's all a nice place to go. It never feels hectic. And of course, the app makes it easy to schedule appointments. I'm very glad I made the move. I have neighbors who see other health care practitioners at this office and are equally happy with their care.
