I did it on the car online unfortunately they don't allow in person inspections any longer and no live and drive but I guess I got lucky. I got this 2009 Pt cruiser for my nephew for his Christmas present. It seems to be an overall good shape very happy with the price thanks to Evan and Shorty for all their help on the phone. I have been dealing with this auction for a while. Now all of a sudden this facility is trying to cover w/e dirt they have been doing. The have transferred a car from my account to a friends before with out a problem now they won't. The manager Read and Jack or Jake shouldn't be working in this industry with the attitudes they have. Read anccused me of being a liar when it seems they lie the most. overall they dont do the auctions in person anymore so they lie on the discription of the vehicle. When there selling a car for a low budget car salesman or dealer they don't put the full description. just know of the cars don't match the description or have more things wrong it's an arbitration and can be returned. This car said running only dents and scratches, they took pictures that without a magnifier you cant see any rips or anything. Plus is loud as soon as you start it, how do you miss an exhaust leak in a Honda? read more

About three weeks ago, I made a decision to try online bidding for a car after about two or three tries. I won my bid or I had the highest bid on a 2008 Saturn Vue suv awd automatic After paying for this, I went to pick it up or have a tow, but I didn't take in consideration that I am tall 6'3". Unfortunately, I could not fit inside the vehicle with my long legs And the key was stuck in the ignition. Also, on top of that when the vehicle was brought to me, it's stop running. Several attempts to jump start this car fail. I spoke to the manager from the site and I was told that the process will go to arbitration. Several days later I was given a full refund that I suggested a couple of days after the phone call. I was very impressed with the customer service finding a solution to this problem and yes, I do highly recommend others who is not as tall to try online auction at Capital auto They will be receiving five stars from me. read more

I purchased a 2004 Mazda MPV which was supposed to be in running condition but with no battery. They put a battery in so that they could record the engine running. I paid 675.00. I had the car towed to my house. Another 125.00. Paid 350.00 for title and tags. Pd. 200.00 for a battery. Van was missing 2 captain seats out of middle. I purchased those from junkyard 100.00. I never put insurance on it because I was waiting to see how it would run. I let the car run about 20 minutes and then I drove down the street. Van got hot and started smoking and the o/d light came on. I drove back to my house. Van started again once it cooled down. Transmission or engine or both are going. Beware, running doesn't mean it will continue running once you purchase. I just had the van junked. Wasted all that money. NEVER AGAIN. Stay away unless you can have a mechanic go with you to auction and check car out. Not for the weak. smh read more

I had it checked and there has been minimum issues so far. The process for bidding on and purchasing cars is seamless. You have to go in and pay to obtain the title. The location in DC is convenient to get to, the parking is plentiful on the street. You will need to pay to park. If you are looking to purchase an inexpensive and reliable vehicle, this is the perfect place. read more

I was unfortunate enough to be paired with this company to complete a car donation for a charity. They seemed professional enough during the intake call, but after giving me a window when the tow truck would come to get my car (and the window was for 4 hours, during which I was supposed to be home to meet the operator for towing), the tow truck did not arrive. I called the office, they told me they would text the driver and get him to reach out to me. So I stayed home longer and waited. I never heard back until the NEXT MORNING when I was out of town, and I told the driver that this was the case. The MORNING OF THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, a different driver called. I repeated that I was out of town and asked him to please let the office know this - I would call them to reschedule. I gave them one final chance and rescheduled the tow once I was home. Again sitting around half the day waiting for a call - nothing. I called to cancel the donation, and wouldn't you know it - the tow truck driver called me almost immediately after that. I was just happy to see the car finally go, but this place is disorganized. They do not respect people's time at all with these expected pick-up windows. read more

This place is for scrap dealers, junk yards, and serious mechanics, not for some regular Joe trying to get a good deal on a used car. Seriously, 98% of all these cars have mechanical issues, some are very serious. If it has a blown motor or transmission you're totally screwed. If you try to ask for a refund or arbitration of some sort you'll have to speak with Reid, the VP and partial owner. Save your breath, this guy won't budge. File a complaint with D.C. Dept of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA). That might get their attention but if that doesn't work, file a D.C. Small Claims case against them. It's only about $50.00 but you stand a very good chance of getting your money back. read more

Cars are over priced and they sell no run vehicles mand list them on the run run list. Most cars are in bad shape and they do not disclose everything that is wrong with it. Buyers beware capital in DC very poor customer service purchased a vehicle in on 10 29 2022 paid for car with towing charges paid in full and then wouldn't hold up there end of contract and would not tow the tow car after giving a quote and agreeing to tow and accept money for it and then wanted me to rent a trailer and meet in a public place I agree to that more expense but I figured that's what need to be done then Manager jack refuse to give a day or time and went on to tell me there not going to tow it and told me to forfeit the sale and then refused to give all the money back jack manager refused to give me back my fees to me that unacceptable when jack who's states he Manager of it and also closed my account because of there mistake please beware I learned my lesson will not buy any cars from there now or in future read more

These people are UNPROFESSIONAL. They sold my car and then told me they wanted to return it. (An auction isn't supposed to do that!! Once it's gone, its supposed to be gone.) Upon return, they ADDED 800 MILES ON MY CAR!! I was not informed of this. They told me to come and get my "junk". If my car was so called "junk", HOW CAN YOU PUT 800 MILES ON IT! I have created this Yelp account just to give Capital Auto Auction a review.I have dealt with Capital Auto auction for a while now and recently I have decided to completely end it. By far, I have never seen a service in a company worst than this. I'm sure it's not everyone, but most of the people there that you will most likely have to deal with are extremely rude including the General manager. It can take you up to 1:30-2:00 hours to get the paperwork done when its really a 10 minutes processes. A lot of the cars they post online or at the auction in general will have a lot more issues than what is actually written or announced. So if you are buying, make sure you really check the car well before leaving the gate or they will wrong you and will do any thing to not take the vehicle back and you cannot do anything about it. It seems like this place is running by NOBODY!! NO CUSTOMER APPRECIATION WHATSOEVER!! read more
