City Barbers is just one of many no-nonsense barbers vying for business on the City Road. Thankfully, it's been around long enough, and is supported by a strong local, devoutly loyal, customer base, and so it has been able to weather both the recession, and the increase in competition in recent years. Prices are keenly competitive, and, with many years of experience, the standards are high.

There are plenty of customers that keep coming back so they must be doing something right. The student population also benefits from a rock bottom discount of £6 a cut. My preference is no longer to have such a short cut but these guys do a good job, and if your preference is having a bloke cut your hair then it's for you.

When I first moved to Cardiff I was a struggling man trying to find the perfect hairdressers that would suit my needs. I'm not a fussy person, all I want is my hair to be chopped off and pay a reasonable price for it. I found La Zarou Brothers Metro located in High Street Arcade. I was pleasantly pleased with this little find. There is no need to book an appointment as you can just walk in and get served then and there. The level of surface surprised me too; they offered me a glass of water or a cup of tea when I walked in which is something I have never encountered with a salon. They offer all types of styles and cuts and the staff will do anything you request with your hair. I think it's the cheapest hairdressers in town. I paid £13 but left as a happy customer La Zarou Brothers Metro is an excellent little salon with great service. It is now my regular salon and I recommend you make it yours too!

Judging by the 'old school' look of the place, that bares a striking resemblance to another barbers, (albeit fictional), of a similar name... well... I'm sure you know what I mean...! Stamy Todds is a traditional barbers shop in every sense of the word. It's got those old style chairs that I wish women's salons had... they're the type that recline and also allow the barber to hoist them aloft, by pumping away at a foot peddle... I think they must be hydraulic...? Anyway, they're ace! I've sat in quite a few of them when I used to go to the barbers in India. Yep, you heard me right... I used to go to the barbers! But there's method in my madness... All the women in India have long hair and so you are always incredibly hard pressed to find a hairdressers as they just don't need them! So it was a case of a barbers or nowt! Everything about Stamy Todds hearkens back to a bygone era... and that includes the pricing. You'll have change from a tenner no matter what you go in here for... and you'll come out smelling of pomade! Oh joy!

A&H Asprou are a barbershop located on Holton Road in Barry, it's just on the outskirts from the main town. You can immediately tell that it is a men's barbershop because of all the reading material there is whilst you sit and wait. You have many newspapers but also the magazine FHM. This is definitely a 'no girls allowed' zone. I'm drifting from the point now, what I want to stress about this place is the service is fantastic, you can walk in without an appointment and wait, and it's very cheap. I remember paying £8 for my last cut and it was one of the best I had. It can get busy on certain days especially the weekend, but if you are prepared to wait then you will get the best cut you deserve. A&H Asprou is an excellent barber shop where you can get a cheap and amazing hair cut along with the high level of service by the guys who work there. One of the best!

Sometimes they reply to your emails and sometimes they Wont. My haircut was not balanced from both sides. I told the hairstylist what style i want but she literally told me she cant do that. We argued for 20 mins and at the end i gave up. Hair conditioning treatment was good though. Im visiting from the US and I'm a city guy. The haircut I received was up to any cut I've had at "uptown" places and the prices are very reasonable. I have a feeling this place is locally loved, and it should be. But if you are just passing through and need a cut, give them a call. Highly recommended
