I love playing with a lot of surrounding trees in the Summer with better shade. Fairways are wide enough the average golfer can avoid them. Greens are looking really good. There are 27 holes and new golf carts that are electric. The driving range has a couple of putting ranges for chipping and putting, but no sand practice. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

I only interacted with the gentleman in the pro shop. He was friendly and liked how he instructed my son how to get the range balls, not me. I loved how lively this place was. There were SO MANY "old timers" out and about here. Luckily, they were friendly old timers, not snooty rude ones like some of the members of the country club I worked at like 20 years ago. The driving range, putting and chipping greens were nice. Carts were awesome. Super quiet. GPS touch screen. AND only $20! (Most courses we went to this summer were at least $27.) As for the course, I think this was one of the best ones we have seen all summer. Fairways and greens were well taken care of. My son had a couple challenging holes but hey, that's golf. We recommend.

My boyfriend and his best friend love to play golf together once a week! On my off day I have been…read moreenjoying tagging along as a rider and spending time with them. We have been coming to Highland Pines every monday for the past month. We start the morning off with breakfast tacos inside, we buy drinks from the beverage cart girl the entire time we are out there, and always go in for beverages and lunch afterwards!! I do not play golf and I am still learning how to play which is why I shy away from playing at courses I am unfamiliar with. I am scared I will slow people down. I would NOT recommend EVER coming to Highland Pines Golf Course and spending your money because of the poorly and unsettling way the staff in the pro-shop treats you and makes you feel! My boyfriend calls ahead every monday morning before we come to let them know that he will have a rider and they say that it's OK until you walk in and they say every time "for future reference riders are not allowed" as they press a "rider" button and charge a $30 fee. Obviously if you have the button on your computer and we've been doing it for the past month, it is allowed. I have been working at a private golf course for three years and we would NEVER make anyone feel this way whenever they come in. They have told us multiple times to call ahead and make sure it's not a busy day (which we completely understand) and we do that every single time!! Every single monday they have multiple LINES of golf carts in their barn and I see it every time we finish up. I hate the way that they make me feel and the way I am treated everytime I walk into the pro-shop! The pro-shop staff is extremely rude and unfriendly and they are overall unwelcoming!! I've never felt this way or been treated this way anywhere else I have gone and I KNOW I do not deserve this treatment!! The unprofessionalism of the pro-shop staff is mind blowing and I would much rather take my $130 and go spend it somewhere else where I'm treated kindly and professionally!! It's not hard to have some class, especially whenever you are working at a nice golf course like this! Besides the pro-shop staff, I always have an amazing time here and the food and beverage staff is amazing, but they manage to ruin it EVERY single time! There is a right and wrong way to go about these situations and their pro-shop staff manages to go about it in the wrong way every time!! DO NOT BOTHER SPENDING YOUR MONEY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!!!! For anyone wondering KYLE WILLIAMS in the pro-shop was the man who treated me so poorly and disrespectfully!!

As of this review, Feb of 2024, this course has faster greens than some PGA tournaments…read more A very dangerous course that reminds me of Falcon point in Katy, with lots of water and bunkers. The unfortunately offline shots snaps you awake from the dreamy landscape and the gorgeous shore lines that your ball just skipped over. Tentative poke of the putter, as you try to time your attempt before a gust of wind moves the ball. It is more of combined punishment from flop shots that still rolls out too much, and down hill putts that just keeps on going. Maybe I am not a smart man, I kinda enjoyed it. Those moments when you take one look back at the green as you walk away, the feeling of satisfaction of completing something hard. And the next tee box, where nature is so perfectly groomed in to mimic an Ansel Adams national park lookout. But it has some flaws. The rows of starter homes squeezed tightly like bento boxes next to some holes serves to remind you of the corporate decisions that had to be made. The construction noise and smoldering wood piles near by hints at the disappearing of most of the magnificent tree lines in the near future. As of now, this is in the top 5 courses I have played in Houston. Good job to the Pines golf group.

I have mixed reactions to our recent visit and. I have wavered between giving this review 4 or 3…read morestars. We have visited this retreat for over 35 years previously known as Chain 'O Lakes. We have noted and appreciated the improvements made over the years. Beautiful, serene, rustic setting-a great place to unwind. -WIFI worked well and consistently throughout our visit. -Cabins basically clean, good beds, clean bed linens and generous numbers of towels. Dining table, dining chairs, side tables and coffee tables as well as couches are well worn. Basic dinnerware and eating utensils; there are no skillets, pans or cooking/serve ware utensils such as egg turners, no mixing bowls...you need to bring these with you. -Communication and information lacking. The website does not provide current updates to the facility and the status of its amenities and services. We had planned to enjoy one meal a day at The Hilltop restaurant and it was closed for our 3 day/2night visit. We had planned to have burgers/snacks by the pool and the snack bar was closed. These unannounced and unexpected closings caused us to leave the retreat and find a grocery store 15 miles away. Then we had to select food items that could be baked because we had no pots/pans or skillets nor utensils to cook and serve with. Amenities not in service included The Hilltop Herb Farm Restaurant, the snack bar beside the pool, and the hot tub. ***PLEASE NOTE: The reason I am giving this review 4 stars is the congeniality of the people at the front desk. Had they been rude I would have dropped one or more stars.*** When I inquired as to why the restaurant and snack bar were closed I was given these points of interest from the very nice young ladies at the front desk. Additionally they very graciously responded that they would inform management about my concerns. -Oh the restaurant is closed during the week-well sometimes it's open. It will be open this weekend I think. (Well, I was leaving on Friday!) -Regarding the snack bar being closed: Well it's only open if the restaurant is. -We've been slammed with big groups and some summers we are more family oriented. (I'm sorry, I was not advised that inconsistant hospitality was a management strategy!) -Regarding the hot tub; well, things break. (Understandable that things break, but how is it being addressed and will it be repaired before my party leaves?) -Carriage Rides? Nope, not in service. There are limited hours of operation for the gift shop which has gifts, snacks, and fishing supplies. It would be a convenient service if this area remained open until 9 pm. A nice evening walk to this area for an ice cream for the kids would have been a nice option. Overall there seems to be a lack of attention, concern, and dedication to providing guests with current information and procedures in order for guests to have an excellent experience. When O think of this visit I feel the most descriptive words would be "sad and lacking". It stings a little to pay the prices of our stay and to have so much broken or closed. I could have spent much less and had similar natural beauty to behold at a state or national park. I do hope that management will button things up quite a bit and provide a friendly, enthusiastic, friendly staff, with current information easily and readily available regarding amenities, services, and procedures for checking out canoes and other equipment. Suggestions: -E-Post daily retreat schedule of events -Paddleboard rentals -tennis or pickleball -a kid/teen rec area with ping pong, tv movie rentals, vending machines
