I have been here many years, when I lived in Bergen County, New Jersey. I recently visited here…read morefrom my home in Delaware to enjoy lunch at Hemingways Restaurant at the Grand Hotel in Cape May on Tuesday, December 16. We took the car ferry from Lewes to Cape May. After our family enjoyed our lunch we decided to shop at this old downtown shopping area. The parking meters were still active even during December. Most of the shops were open in mid December. A parking meter person tried to ticket my vehicle in a parking spot just before my family visibly appeared. I was able to depart just in time. Cape May does use the Park 915 app for paid parking although I had a problem activating my Park 915 app on my iPhone.

Cape May is not just another "beach town". It seems easy to lump it together as NJ has many of…read morethem. I've always seen it as the final part of NJ and it is with Delaware being right across the water, 17 miles by ferry. Cape May sure has beaches, but it has lot's more - with places to stay such as the unique Congress Hall with all it's amenities and so much architectural history with the Cape May Lighthouse, Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May's own historical museum and much more. There is the Promenade which is dog friendly, wineries and breweries. Shopping, Food, movies on the beach in the summer and lots of Christmas lights on the many unique and historical houses during the winter season. If you aren't into all the water activities that are all available, there are nature preserve spots perfect for nice leisure walks and photo ops of plants and animals, again dependent on the season. I'mlad to have been able to come check out the Cape, right here in good ol' NJ. I'd love to come back. If you or someone ever asks what makes NJ special? Cape May is one of the answers to that question.

I only give this two stars because of the nice ladies who work there to serve the public. My family…read moreand I were on a vacation to the Jersey Shore and made the mistake of parking in Cape May. We came into a lot at night, after dodging many bicyclers and walkers, feeling a little smug that we had found such a plum spot after searching for so long. We parked, thinking how nice it was to find a spot not in a parking meter area. It wasn't until the next morning, after driving the car 40 miles back to our motel, that we noticed the parking ticket under the windshield, saying we had a parking meter violation. We, thinking there must be some dire mistake, drove back down there to check out how we missed a meter. We entered the lot, and now in the daylight noticed a sign saying there was a parking meter box that served 8 or so cars down several spots from where we parked. Also, the only sign within our sight was partially covered by a tree branch, and it was positioned so that you had to walk behind it when exiting your car. Nice. I, of course, protested the ticket, only to be told that the judge "felt there was adequate signage". What?? It was absolutely not adequate, and I challenge this judge to come to an unknown area, dodge various walkers and bikers, come in the dark, and find a sign between cars, covered by branches, walk behind it and realize that he/she needs to put money in a meter 5 cars down from him. I will be wiser next time, but really, is Cape May County in such dire financial straits that they have to charge unwitting tourists that much for a mistake? Very ridiculous! But, as I said earlier, at least the girls at the City Hall were polite and helpful. :) Rant over.
