This past weekend Rebecca and I made our way out there for the corn, just HAD to have the corn as…read morecorn is always served at this house and Cervellis corn is undoubtedly the best. Their price on a dozen was only a little more than the corn at Shaws for the last couple weeks, and that corn came from the south and was really no good. But this is just the most amazing corn up here and the way I have gotten it's cooking together makes it an inescapable part of dinner at the house over the summer. I will share how I do that. I have to say that the cooking of the corn has gotten so perfectly scientific here. Corn is now prepared before the cooking of the meat or the grilling if that sounds better. I use a gas stove as it just is better for your control of the heat. Each ear has a teaspoon of sugar added to the water (room temperature) and then the heat is turned to full in our large pan that holds maybe 4-5 ears. Then just as the water boils, turn the heat off and remove from the burner, leave its lid on and you will be set for the best taste with the most extreme pops when you bite. The corn is fully cooked, but with a great pop as you bite in, it's a part of your meal you will never forget. Done this way, the corn is good for an hour just sitting in its hot water, it keeps its touch with the popped kernels and warm interior. It helps when the corn is as good as a Cervellis ear, but the style works well for all corn.

Knowing the good quality of their summer produce, etc., we were delighted to see that Cervelli's…read morewas selling pies for Thanksgiving this year. But as it turned out, if the summer stuff scored an A. the pies scored a big, fat F! Those three pies almost ruined what had, until that point, been a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. The pies weren't even baked all the way through, to the point that the bottom crust were still raw! There was hardly any fruit in the fruit pies, and the crusts of all three pies was so dry and disgusting that the slices of pie turned out to be more like tablespoons of pie. Disappointing doesn't even come close to how we all felt about the experience we lived through . . . all because three pies -- blueberry, apple, and pumpkin -- were so dreadfully bad. I will have to admit that when I saw their advertising sign on the front street that read that they were "taking orders" for Thanksgiving pies, I expected homemade pies. Instead, the pies were mass-produced off-site, definitely from a distance away judging from the phone number on the boxes, and from the fact that they looked old when we opened the boxes. We will be careful of going to Cervelli's for anything any more, especially pies, other edible things, and anything holiday-related! Be careful because what happened to us, that the word Cervelli;s no longer holds the same good feelings or confidence in quality for us, could happen to you!

I love pumpkins as you can tell by my outfit. I certainly dressed for this particular occasion. Today I went and done something fun and checked out this apple and pumpkin picking farm. I've never seen or been in a corn maze before and it's something I've always wanted to try. It was moderately busy and families were gathered together for a "funday" at the farm. Apple picking is $30, but I didn't go apple picking because I have apples already at home and $30 for a bag was too expensive. I understand that it's priced for the experience, fun and great tasting apples, but it's just not in my budget. The pumpkins are by weight and my pumpkin was responsibly priced at $3 and I love it. I liked the corn maze it was fun and at first I thought I might get lost, but it was a simple and easy experience. After the maze I went and picked out my pumpkin. I was a little disappointed that there was no shop to buy things like handmade goods, but I do understand that help is hard to find nowadays. Overall, I was at the farm for about an hour. I had a good time and I do recommend stopping by and checking out the Crow Farm for some fun and adventure.

I've been looking forward to picking my own apples, but at $30 for a small plastic bag, for the…read moreprivilege of picking your own, it's too rich for my blood. I thought pick your own would be a bit cheaper. Lots of apples on the ground so maybe if they were a little less expensive they'd have more customers, but I don't know. I can't speak to the quality of their apples since there were no samples out to taste.

Thus expect the farmers market to be at a special caliber. But APPROACHABLE. ITS GORGEOUS! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! I'm not going into all the vendors because I'll be here all morning, and I'm hungry. But I will tell you that the berries, tomatoes, quiche ($75 for 2, so bring your kids tuition with you), the baked goods... just superb. Beautiful flowers. And the Osterville Historical Museum is open to the shoppers. BONUS! I went nuts grabbing everything I could until a ping on my phone said "honey, I think the card company needs to raise our spending limit" AND I was grabbing so many sweets, I felt a small guilt attack... Well, I got over that quickly... Everything is just beautiful, quality crafted, lots of love put into the produce and products. I was a bit unkind to the poor granola ladies who were so proud that their product is "glutten free, no sugar, etc." (it was ok, bland as all get out, but if you live in the hoity world of elite botox, Vineyard Vines, everyone wants to live to 100 looking 25... you'll understand the push)... I'm like "I'm sorry ladies but I like sugar, fat, alcohol, etc..." as I sampled the dry and bland cranberry granola (bless their hearts). I should have kept my trap shut. They're like "You're so lucky to not care and be able to enjoy those things" (back handed compliment, but I deserved it). Listen people, we are ALL going to die anyway and I doubt I will live to 100... to each their own. I just need to wear my chakras well and not be so rude. They were beautifully thin, tanned and healthy and proud of their product (it's good, just not for me). Throwbacks are parking and ANGRY people. Jeeze. Shoppers and some of the vendors are just ANGRY, and politely rude. But that can happen when "white rich" congregate (NOT ALL PEOPLE, but a big chunk of them - you don't see this in Newburyport or other lower key farmers markets). Overall, it's beautiful, full of delicious and wonderful things, and some people from out our way were having a joyful time. Friday 9-2, Jun 4-Oct 1. You're welcome. Because if you can ignore the angry birds, you are in for a treat! ITS BEAUTIFUL!
