1. Nice train ride. I have a short attention span, so I was ready to get off after 3 hours. We went on 9/13/14. 2. COST: You get a 5 course meal so it is probably comparable to other restaurants, plus you get a train ride. If you want a private table you will have to pay an extra 20 dollars to have your own table in addition to 80 dollars per person. We paid the extra 20 and I think the few couples who did not, likely regretted having to sit near some over talkative tourist for 3 hours.... And no they wont let you sit by yourself for free even if there are spare tables... The tables seat 4, so if you're a party of four you obviously do not need to pay for a private table. DO NOT spend 5 dollars for parking. No one was there to check our paid ticket pass and there is plenty of free parking around... Ugh. I kind of want my 5 dollars back lol. Besides that I think price is okay. 3. FOOD.. It was good. I had the chicken dish and my fiancé had the beef. I heard the chowder was amazing from numerous passengers (I don't eat chowder). I think it is great that there are snacks already at your table when you are seated. Our train departed at 5:30 and there was a pretty steady stream of food until our dinner arrived at 7. 4.SEATING. We sat in the odd number seats... Thank God we had the best view of the cape cod canal and the best views in general. I don't know if they allow you to request seats... But it is worth a try. 5. Scenery/Appearance:.To the people who complained that there were too many trees and back yards during the train ride... Do you want the railroad company to plant/landscape better scenery for you? Like, seriously lol. Also the train appearance inside is okay, but slightly antiquated. Overall my fiancé and I enjoyed ourselves. I would give the experience 3 1/2-4 stars. read more

Wife and I had a great time ont the dinner train. To you people who do not like the BANG GROW UP! ITS A TRAIN. SERIOUSLY .... Dinner was fantastic and was romantic. My suggestion is to pay the extra for the private table read more

What an enjoyable excursion.A trip well worth the money.Very pleasant train crew.I loved leaving the driving to someone else and avoiding all the cape traffic. Will be enjoying this again this summer ! read more

We were a little bored toward the end of it but I wouldn't discourage anybody from taking this tour. It was informative, we lucked out and sat next to the lady talking, we got to ask her questions which was cool. We didn't do any "dinner" thing to keep the price down, but it was fun. We took some decent pictures, you do go by some water views and you see a lot that you wouldn't ever see by car. read more

Elegant Dinner train, a little pricey but the food was good, A real authentic old fashioned train ride , Bumpy at times.

We had a wonderful evening on the dinner train from North Falmouth. Great views along Buzzards Bay, Great food, wine and conversation. We celebrated my father's birthday; he loved it. The food was excellent. After the appetizer, salad, seafood chowder, I had the tenderloin with a very tasty sauce and shrimp- delicious! The salmon was also perfectly cooked with a herb crust. We finished the dinner with a delicious lemon tart and coffee & tea. The staff, waiters, and cook were very friendly and provided top notch service. It was exciting to go over the train bridge on the canal to the other side of Bourne. Fabulous views down Buzzards Bay. We were in the Diamond class on the second floor with large windows. I am looking forward to taking another trip and trying the historical car next time. read more

The Brunch service of the Cape Cod Central Railroad is exactly as advertised, but not much more. The menu options were limited and some what overpriced, but enjoyable. I went with the Eggs Oscar, a Cape Cod take on Eggs Benny with a slice of steak and crab meat on top. Along side this I had a mimosa and a fruit salad topped with sorbet. The car itself was comfortable, I see other reviews complaining of hot in the summer and cold in the winter, but I think we picked the perfect time (Fall), not only was it a fine temperature, but the foliage was just lovely. Not too long, not too short, with some decent scenery thrown in. Dont expect to see beaches, but some great marsh-scapes. read more

So so so BORING! There are about 5 places along the route where you may see something other than trees and/or the backs of buildings. At those places you will see cranberry bogs & ocean views. Nice, but you can see those things all over the Cape! Wish we'd saved our money & gone out for a nice lunch instead! read more

I cannot believe this train is still running. If you want to pay a high price to look at people's back yards, look at trees, bake on a hot day, listen to loud whistles every few minutes, breathe in fumes, then go for it. Waste of time and money. I can only think the five star reviews are written by the owners. read more

Surprisingly a very nice experience. Took my parents on the lunch train to Sandwich and had great views and pretty good food.

This company sends me emails again and again. Somehow they got my email address and they keep spamming me. I wrote back time and again asking to be taken off their email list, but no reply and still they spam me. read more

The coastal Excursion was what we expected you have to love the Cape to enjoy the ride peaceful except for some kids the food was good

It was fun and definitely an experience. There are better train rides there however this one is definitely one to check out. There aren't as many sights to see as you think, but the narration makes up for it and the service provided. The most annoying part of the trip was the fact that a school trip with young kids were riding the train and it was the noisiest ride and that the car we were in had cheap office chairs you could find at Staples. Other than the chairs the train car itself was original, air conditioned and clean. read more

I took my mom, who is from Phoenix, along with my 3 year old daughter on a lunch train ride. My daughter was very excited about eating lunch on a train, and I thought it would be a cool way for my mom to see the area we live in. We were told that we would board when our train car's name was called, but after a large group was boarded, everyone flocked on-board. So we were literally the last guests on because we were waiting for our car to be called...like we were told would happen and never did. So, no order to the boarding process. We were seated and the safety spiel was announced over the loud speaker. Normal stuff like safety moving around and using the bathroom. Then the announcer said "I noticed there was a small child who boarded today. A little girl." (Now here I'm thinking, "Cool! Maybe they'll welcome her aboard and let her see some neat train stuff!" 'Cause ya know, it's a train, and kids love trains!) NOPE. The woman continued over the loud speaker to the whole train when we were clearly the only people there with a child "I would like to take this time to remind the girl's parents that she needs to remain seated and not run around in the aisles." Then people around us stared and one made a comment in a joking manner that they would be keeping an eye on her. But I was mortified and angry. I know that some parents may let their children run around, but I don't. Don't say anything until it's a problem or talk to me directly not over the loud speaker. I was the only person there with a child! Not difficult to come say something to me alone. Or make a general statement during the safely announcements that ALL children need to remain seated and no running in the aisles is permitted. Then you don't single anyone out. Anyway, the narration of the ride was kind of garbled and loud. I couldn't hear my mom talking, but couldn't really understand the announcer either. I just could make out lots of information about cranberries. And the talking for the first half is CONSTANT. The ride was fine, but nothing you can't see by driving down 6A. The food was decent, the servers were a little curt, but they have a lot to do in a very short time, so I get it. Overall, the comment about my kid at the start of the ride totally blew the whole thing. Making that comment assumes that my kid is going to be an asshole, and that I'm going to be an asshole for letting her be an asshole. It made it pretty clear that kids aren't really welcome there. And by the way, my kid sat in her chair the whole time, no intervention needed to keep her from running in the aisles. read more

My best friend took me here when I visited her because she knows that I like trains. This is a great little train venture that is narrated all of the way with interesting info. My only complaint was that it was tough to hear at times because of screaming kids. I'd pay extra for a 'no kid' zone. read more

Such an enjoyable experience. Appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. The ride is shaded and the break at the Hudson is beautiful and refreshing. The trip across the bridge is awesome. Will definitely do this again. read more

A delight for all ages! The elves were friendly, lively and paid attention to each child equally! The storybook reading was great. Only con there is the speakers were not very loud. Santas visit was magical for all the kids in our car and he spent a moment with each! Young or old fun was had by all! Worth its cost in memories alone!! read more

13 of us bought tickets on the Family Supper Train, out of Hyannis, during our vacation. The food was pretty much much what you'd expect & the scenery was nice. The promised children's entertainment, however was horrendous. There was a lame "train race" storyline haltingly narrated over a loud speaker, that could only barely be heard over the sound of the train. Then 3 characters, meant to represent the racing trains, toured the car & spoke to the kids. "Sylvia's"costume consisted of a Dollar Store tinsel wig along with her jeans & t-shirt. She giggled embarrassingly between each of her lines & could not answer any of the kids' questions about trains. Even the youngest children in our group did not buy it. The music portion consisted of a very small selection piped into the car repeatedly. Seriously, we were subjected to Kool & the Gang's Celebration 3 times during the 2 hour trip. Apparently the good train "won" because at one point the hobo character flung confetti into my coffee. As for the promised face-painting, it never happened, though each child left with a balloon hat shaped like a penis. The whole thing was disappointing because it would take so little effort to make it truly fun & memorable. Instead it was just one big missed opportunity. read more

We bought a simple "Coastal Excursion" train ride on Groupon. It was very affordable. I didn't want to eat lunch on board, because I wanted to spend the time enjoying the views. Some folks complain that all you see is trees & residential back yards, & backs of businesses, but that is mostly what you see along any train tracks. If you want a nice, unobstructed view of things, then take your bicycle along the Cape Cod Canal. I've done that & it's beautiful. On the train, you do also see some cranberry bogs & salt marshes, & sand dunes. You also have some nice views of the canal. You need to like being on a train, like I do. The train car we were on could very well be a MBTA commuter rail train car, as some have mentioned. I was Ok with that, because it was very comfortable & the on-board temperature was perfect. It seems that the vintage train cars are reserved for the lunch & dinner seating. The conductors are very friendly & helpful. The narrator was funny & informative. The ride was neither too short nor too long-it was perfect! I have only 2 complaints: Parking on site was $5, but that's not really a big deal. However, it should have been mentioned on the website. The single bathroom inside the depot is not sufficient. Before leaving, there was a long line of passengers waiting to use it. Better facilities are needed. I went to the bus station next door-nice, modern, adequate facilities. Don't think I need to do it again ever, but I enjoyed the trip. read more

Horrible. We have gone on the family supper train for 6 years and this year was the worst. Choo Choo Charlie is gone, no one knows where to and so the entertainment is gone. No music, no narration, no magic show, Train was 30 mins late so 2 kids dressed in the worst pirate garb showed up with snacks to ply the kids and ruin their appetites. Train went way too fast to makeup for their tardiness. Kids were bored and kept asking for face painting which the pirates promised and goaded them with then showed up when the train pulled back not the station 2 hours later. All this to the tune of $250 for a family of 5. Save your money!!!! read more

We took the scenic railroad about 15 years ago and it was a lovely ride on an old train. We just took it again this week with our two year old and it was awful. They've removed all the regular train seating in favor of tables and awful dining chairs. Our child loves trains and is usually well behaved and sits on them, but the table style seating was uncomfortable for her, and she had no interest in sitting there. Never again. read more

My family and I had tickets for today, Saturday Aug 10. We were told to arrive at 5:45 PM for the 6:30 train. We did not get on the train until 6:45 due to a train delay, then sat at the station for an hour and a half until 8 PM. It seems that the Amtrak Cape Cod Flyer train was in the way, something that this company should have known about. A fellow passenger and I asked that our families be let off, but then the train finally started moving. By this time the day was getting dark and so we could see nothing outside during our ride. When we returned to the station the office was already closed. A terrible experience. read more

My husband & I usually go to Essex, CT for our annual anniversary dinner train celebration. We decided for a change to go to Hyannis and frankly were disappointed. The scenery wasn't important to us. The dinner was served in a timely manner and was quite relaxing. The food was mediocre. We were disappointed that the conductor did not give any history of the train or engaged the customers with stories. It was like being in a moving restaurant. The music was loud causing conversations to be louder. The train car we were in didn't feel like the "good old days" and wasn't decorated. I think we'll stick with Essex, CT read more

participated in the beer train which was nicely paired with small plates. really enjoyed our time on the train and the food.

Don't bring kids on the scenic tour. It is two hours of trees broken up with a few other sights. Also, the tour guide talks to the adults, so there is not much for the kids. It didn't take long for the kids to become tired and bored. read more

My large extended family booked a trip on the "scenic train" on a Monday night in August leaving from Buzzards Bay. We were very disappointed to learn when we boarded that the route we were taking was not along the Canal. It was also very uncomfortable onboard, as the train has no A/C and it was quite humid. Staff weren't apologetic about it at all, they kept saying "only the trains from Hyannis go along the Canal" - how would we know that? They heavily advertise their scenic routes along the Canal, then offer a scenic ride that I assumed was along that same route, just without the expensive dinner - wrong. It was an awful route to Wareham with mostly views of overgrown brush at eye level - and an occasional glimpse of a scenic area. After arriving in Wareham, we chugged back to Buzz Bay, crossed Canal and headed to Monument Beach and Cataumet - not much to see there either. Very disappointing - would not recommend this route at all - and train needs A/C - inhumane to have it without it - and CCCR needs to be upfront with people when they book that this is not the Canal route that you'd expect!! read more

If you're traveling with individuals with limited mobility or who use wheelchairs, the scenic tour is not a good option. Because we had two people in our party using wheelchairs, I called ahead to ask about the accessibility of the train cars and was assured that there was a lift to help passengers in wheelchairs board easily and that there was accessible seating available as well as accessible bathrooms. While there was a ramp onto the train, the "accessible" seats required one step up and had very little view. The seats with a better view required passengers to walk up five steps, which was quite difficult for our party. Using the bathroom on the train required passengers to walk down five steps on a moving train, which wasn't possible for our group. When I inquired about the accessibility of the bathrooms in the station, I was told they were handicap accessible. I decided to check for myself, and found that each stall required a step up - not accessible for wheelchair users. Luckily, there was a fully accessible bathroom in the Hyannis Transportation Center located next door. Overall, I was very disappointed to have been misled by the staff about the accessibility of the train and station facilities. read more
