We have purchased bags of their chips at the grocer. Too often, the chips are broken into many small pieces. The chips aren't that big to begin with. We don't know how anyone can find 18 chips in a bag equal to 8 g of fat, when most of the chips aren't large enough to be called a single potato chip in the first place. We reported this problem to their now Campbell's corporate owner. They ignored us. What a loser for a company. It's no wonder their stock has sunk by 25% this year (that's in 6-months, not 12). Just a waste of time ! My family and I have taken several factory tours and have learned that they are just awesome. You learn a little about local recourses and how they're used and how they become the products that you enjoy. I've taken tours of a lumber mill, the Jelly Belly factory, the Western Bagel factory and the Sriracha factory. They were all fascinating and a wonderful way to teach kids about the world around them. But the Cape Cod Chips factory tour sucks! You can't go on to the production floor. You can't understand what's happening. Instead you walk down a tiny hallway looking through 4 windows, over and around machinery that's not in use to try to see the line that is in use. And at every possible opportunity they make it clear that under no circumstances are you to ever shoot a single photograph or a segment of video or document in any fashion or in any way your trip down this glorious, industry-secret filled hallway. Do these knuckleheads not understand that this is a rare opportunity for them to meet their customers, to cement brand loyalty and to let their customers do the advertising for them with all their social media posts??? I guess not. I walked away from the Sriracha tour an even more passionate fan of their products. I told dozens of people that they HAD to go, they had to take the tour. But Cape Cod Chips? I walked away from you facility thinking less of your product and less of you brand because of the poor tour and remarkably discourteous welcome. read more

I have been back here..I always do the tour when at The Cape. And it never stops being fun! If you have not taken the tour yet, I highly suggest it. It is short.just a few minutes. You will see the people hard at work.... It is fascinating to watch the chips being made. It really is a family friendly fun time. It is also a yummy time because you get chips at the end of the tour! The only reason I am giving it a 4 and not a 5 is because they stopped handing out the Cape Cod Popcorn at the end of the tour! I don't know if they stopped making the popcorn all together, (I hope not) or just stopped giving it out but for me, the popcorn is even tastier then the chips so that was really disappointing. I have no idea why they stopped doing that but I wish they hadn't. Still enjoyed it the last time I was here though as it is just such a fun time. Highly recommended. read more

Downgrading a star. They just reopened on 8 July 2019 after being closed for 3 months due to a major renovation. They have removed the seagull print walkway. Boo hiss. And no more signs explaining the manufacturing process. But the tour is still free. And you still get a free bag of chips. **************************************** We come here every October- take the tour and buy a couple of cases of single serve chips to hand out for Halloween. Love these chips but was disappointed with the tour. The factory itself is small but very clean It's a self walking tour no pictures where aloud. There was a good video explaining the whole process and showing the process in detail. It might have been better if they were in production the day we went but it was their slow period. You get a small bag for free and the gift shop has lots of chip options: salt and vinegar, salts and pepper, jalapeño ranch, bbq etc.... plus other items shirts, hats, books and so on. I have driven through Cape Cod on the way to Provincetown from Boston so I could have stopped for the self guided tour at The Cape Cod Potato Chips factory. But that was before I ever knew about those delectable chips. So this review is only for their products & not for their on site tour nor for their gift shop. I became aware of Cape Cod Chips in the early 1990's when our local CVS née Savon drug stores would have a sale on them to entice me to buy a bag. After a few years, CVS stopped selling them, and I was left high & dry w/ acute potato chip withdrawal symptoms until a good friend told me a few years later that they were on sale again at Vons-Safeway markets. I have tried many of the various flavours, but they tend to mask the high quality flavours inherent in the potatoes themselves. I also choose the original unflavoured over the reduced fat since there is a small yet definite difference. The chips are not thick & lean toward thin, but their substantial crispy crunchiness is surprising when most chips of this thinness just leave a fluffier, less magnified, unsatisfyIng, wispy crispness. My guess is that they are brined & double fried to attain more crunchiness like Belgian fries. (The French didn't invent "French Fries", the Belgians did.) The vegetable oils used are clean w/ a slight natural "sweetness" that adds to the flavour profile so that as you chew, the starch in the chips converts to sugar for a combined pleasurable effect. The potatoes used give off an ineffable, subtle root vegetable earthiness that is missing in other potato chips & gives Cape Cod Chips an extra nuanced dimension of flavour sensation. These chips are deadly since it's hard to stop eating them once you start. These are the only chips that I would describe as GOURMET. So far all other chips have fallen short of the high standards set by Cape Cod. Please don't stop shipping them to Los Angeles. As we walked around the side of the massive building and headed toward the front entry, Holy Mother of God- we started to smell potato chips! Outside the building, you can smell potato chips! The tour is self paced, with big glass windows overlooking the production floor on the right, and wall displays describing the manufacturing process on the left. So you can read about how they inspect, slice, season, dip in oil, fry, and bag chips while you get a visual of every step in the process. There are chips whirring all over the place, on ramps and escalators and conveyor belts- it's really quite a show. No photography is allowed during the tour of production, but photos are allowed inside the very impressive gift shop where logoed items of every description are found. It was raining for most of our yearly pilgrimage up to the Cape for Oysterfest, so this free, self-guided tour really fit the bill. As many other reviews let you know, it's essentially a walk down a hallway and a view into the chip factory to get a closer look at the chip-making process. They were closed for sanitizing the day we visited, so missed seeing the "mountain of chips" that people mention, but hey, glad they keep things tidy. It actually seems too small to produce all those bags of chips you see in supermarkets everywhere, but I really appreciate that this is a local, small town business made good. We stop and do this tour almost every summer -despite the fact that we've done it over and over for years. So let's just get this out of the way: Yes, it's a self guided tour down a hallway where you look through a few windows at the factory. Yes it ends in the store. Yes you get 1 (sometimes 2) snack bags of chips at the end. Yes it's short. BUT - my kids love it. My son loves seeing the chips wiz by on conveyor belts, under the salter, and then on to the packaging/bagging machines. The bagging machine is pretty impressive and mesmerizing. So yes, while it is a very short tour we still go year after year. Its short enough to keep the kiddo's attention, its something to do inside with AC on a hot summer day (or on a rainy day), and you can eat chips at the end! And it's FREE. read more

I have especially enjoyed these chips for a few years. The Salt snd Vinegar chips are the best of any brand I have tried. Not too much vinegar or too much salt, but just the perfect punch delivering that perfect blend. The chips are an appreciable texture as they provide a nice crunch without breaking your teeth, and the crumble is deliciously flaky. I'm very much about texture and flavor. Other brands I have tried have so much salt you can't eat them, or so much vinegar your mouth burns. Some had such thick and crisp chips that you couldn't bite them without dental damage. And yet some chips lacked flavor in any way you could identify other that some salt. By far these are the very best I have tried! A message to Cape Cod Potato Chips. I love you guys. I love your chips. My whole family are loyal Cape Cod chip eaters. So when I found out there was a factory tour I was so excited. We found you without a problem. The outside of the building is well kept and very clean. I did have to walk over the plants in the front in order to get a photo next the logo... maybe it would be nice to set up a little station for people to take pictures, it is great for instagram or facebook or sharing with friends. We go in and are greeted by a lovely lady, we sign in and begin out tour. Thanks to Yelp I knew it was short and self guided. It was REALLY SHORT. You really saw nothing. You saw one guy feeding potatoes into a machine and another machine dropping chips. Then the three tvs that you could read. You can do better. Then the gift shop. That you should really be ashamed of. This week my grocery store offered a better price than you did on the chips. There wasn't even all flavors represented. It was really sad. How about other items? How about a kitchen that might produce sandwiches served with chips or something made with your chips.. maybe people could take it outside to sit at a picnic table. SOMETHING. It took us longer to walk from the parking lot than it did to take the tour AND shop. You can do better for very little cost. read more

This was a great little stop on our trip back to Boston. Be sure to follow the arrows for the proper place to park. It's a short walk to the front of the building. Here you will sign in and take a few pictures. This is a short, self guided tour and once you leave the lobby, you are not allowed to take picture or videos. There are signs to read while viewing the process. We enjoyed seeing the process from beginning to end. You end your tour in the gift shop where you are given a free sample if chips. We went on a Thursday afternoon and were sorely disappointed we drove 35 minutes out of our way to come here for the tour. We are big fans of Cape Cod potato chips, especially their dark russet ones. My three year old is obsessed with potato chips so we thought it would be educational to show him how they are made. The tour is self-guided and takes about 30 seconds, two minutes tops if you read out loud the front and back sides of the two page tour handout they give you. Through one hallway with windows, you see their potato sorting machine, six kettle frying vats, quality inspection, and the bagging and boxing machines. There were two historical looking machines and a blank TV that promised a museum and video were coming soon. There were no free bags of chips or any samples during the tour, only the gift shop at the end where you pay full retail. They also had some t-shirts, sweatshirts, and knickknacks. Since we still had bags of their chips at home, no need to buy another one here. We've been on many food factory tours, Snyder's pretzels, Utz potato chips, Cabot cheese, Ben and Jerry's, and Stonyfield yogurt, and this is by far the worst one. Most of them at least have a tour guide or a video to watch. It's poor form to go all the way to the factory and not even get a sample. read more

The tour is walk along a long hallway next to the factory's assembly line. You'll see where the potatoes come in at the begin of the process and on the end you'll see the chips being bagged and boxed. We took our time and watched the cooking and spinning of the potato chips several times. There are wall posters along the hallway with information and trivia that you can read to learn more about the process of potato chip making. They also mention their popcorn making. No photos are allowed in the tour. Parking lot is large, the walk from the lot is a little long. Souvenir shop has limited additions of potato chips and tourist stuff. read more

When I was a kid the Cape Cod Potato Chip "Factory" was a store front in Hyannis, and you could watch the cooker in the window and when a batch was done, you could pop in and get them warm and salty in a waxed paper bag. That, friends, was a five-star attraction while we waited for the ferry or did a little window shopping. Times change, and Cape Cod has survived and thrived because, well, they make potato chips that taste remarkably like they're made out of potatoes (although they'll never be as good as my memory of those hot fresh chips of yore). The factory tour is mostly self-guided, in a hermetically-sealed corridor, and you cannot take pictures. But it's still kind of nifty, you get to see what a small food factory looks like (and maybe give the kids a small sense of the concept of processed foods, which isn't necessarily a wonderful thing but is excellent knowledge to acquire at a young age), and you can breeze through the gift shop for some somewhat overpriced chips but in every single variety you can imagine, and score about nine chips of free samples. For the money it costs you, which is a giant zero, if you can figure out how to get there on a day when it's not inundated with tourists (the off-season is lovely, let me tell you as a semi-native), it's a quick and fun activity and almost the only manufactory you can visit on the Cape (maybe the only one now, come to think of it). I usually like to visit factory tour, not skip it if that's on our way. We were going to Hyannis, saw Cape Cod Chips factory. Actually this place is not huge or big deal as a factory tour, though it was fun. I felt like I witnessed they were using real potatoes to make Cape Cod chips. That solved a lot of other kind of mystery about the potato chips. A self guided tour was short, not much to see also, though we saw potato peeler machine, impressed. At the end of the tour we got very small free original Cape Cod chips. I had twice. We also bought tons of chips. Yeah, after you tasted Cape Cod chips, we got hooked with this special chips from New England. Actually we saved and brought one bag of spicy chips to LA..It was that good. Now that kids are grown and headed to college we decided to tour the factory/museum.. 1 1/2 hour drive to find the factory closed for cleaning. The front desk receptionist was very warm and welcoming but didn't know how to answer our questions such as.. where's the lighthouse located? We were happy to find it to be a free, walkthrough kick in and our tour. It was so disappointing as we expected a much more inviting and involving tour where we could ask questions. Chip Factory is fun to stop in if you are venturing around Hyannis. Parking can be annoying if it's packed, and FORGET IT if there is a tour bus of foreigners. If that happens, go check out some scenery for a bit and make your way back after they leave. It's a self guided tour which I enjoy b/ I don't have to be bored by a monotone group leader explaining everything. You walk thru and look thru the windows, watching the peeps make your delicious chips and can read all the posters on the walls explaining the process. Takes 10-15 mins tops unless you're mildly illiterate. Best part comes at the end when you get to take two small samples bags of chips with you. Some days they have a dandy selection of various chips; other days you get stuck with choosing either low fat or regular. Those days make me disappointed. Might also want to mention that the chips in the gift shop are moderately pricer than getting them in your local food store. Although, the gift shop sometimes carries a bigger selection in which all stores may not. In that case, just go for it and enjoy your damn chips, who cares about the price. So when i found out that we were pretty close to the factory I WAS SUPER EXCITED to see how they make kettle chips..... and that was my first thought. It's a free self guided tour so don't be like me and go there with HIGH expectations because you will be sorely disappointed. I would suggest going there if it's on your way or if your staying 10 minutes away. But if your traveling over half an hour or more, there is no point. The tour is set up like a hallway where you can see the machines thru the glass, and read what it says on the wall next to it. But if it gets super busy it can be hard to see and read everything. At the end of the tour you do get two free bags of chips. NO- its not the super big kind, its the friendly kid-size 60 calorie kind.
