Really awesome potato chip factory that features a free self-guided tour that explains their potato chip-making process (and free samples at the end too). I got so excited at watching the fresh chips being made that I bought myself 5 bags (at $3.49/pack) & a sand bucket complete with shovel to take back: Three Cheese, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Sour Cream & Onion, Cheddar & Sour Cream and Mesquite BBQ. Yes, it's a little bit on the pricier end, but I watched them make it fresh & it looked so delicious! Definitely a nice half hour trip that was informing and enjoyable. Never seen anything like this before in NJ/NY/PA area (b/c of course, we would charge you an arm & a leg to step foot into the facilities even). I will say though that the exterior doesn't smell very bueno when you get out of your car & make your way to the front entrance (don't let that deter you, it doesn't smell like that when you get inside). Highly recommended! read more

Cape Cod Potato Chips - Free potato chip sample pack! - Tours Near Me - Hyannis, Massachusetts

For the first time, I tried contacting Cape Code to tell them about a bad bag of potato chips I just bought. All their phone numbers do not work! The phone rings and rings and then you get disconnected. I tried looking for customer service...no dice. So now I am leaving a bad review for them. If I treated my clients like this, I wouldn't have any. Shame on them! read more

If you love potatoes chips, you have heard of Cape Cod Chips. What you might not know is that these chips are so famous that they have factory tours for tourists and visitors every weekday from 9am to 5pm. They have signs in the parking lots to lead visitors to the gift store. The (short) tour is free. The samples are free. The parking is free. It is fun. This tour is not mentioned in the AAA Tourbook. Thanks Yelp for leading me here. read more

Born and raised in MA.. eating these chips is second nature! Now that kids are grown and headed to college we decided to tour the factory/museum.. 1 1/2 hour drive to find the factory closed for cleaning. The front desk receptionist was very warm and welcoming but didn't know how to answer our questions such as.. where's the lighthouse located? We were happy to find it to be a free, walkthrough kick in and our tour. It was so disappointing as we expected a much more inviting and involving tour where we could ask questions. Try other flavored chips.. so sad! If you're not around the local area, not worth the drive. This however doesn't change our love for the chips. read more

Stopped by Hyannis for lunch on our way to the mid-Cape for a weekend stay. Decided to visit the Chip factory. As others have said, this is the actual production plant, so you have to watch for trucks, deliveries and others moving around. The factory makes it very clear where the entrance and walkway is to avoid any industry mishaps. Posters on the wall next to the windows into the plant tell you what is being done - we could see the chips in the fryer, rolling on the conveyor belts to dry and then being dropped into the bags. We saw very few people in the plant, which probably due to the oil and the heat is why. At the end, you get the tiniest bag of chips for tasting, plus the opportunity to purchase bags of chips and other souvenirs. No discount, as the prices were as marked on the bags that you see in the stores. I was hoping for some "seconds" to purchase on the cheap. There were some strange flavors, that my kids decided to try and we bought a puzzle of potato chip brands. Don't bother unless you are in the area. The self-guided tour lasted all of 10-15 minutes. We spent more time navigating the streets of Hyannis to find the factory than the tour. But, if you have time to kill and need the kids a distraction other than eating or beach. read more

The tour is very short and you must tour yourself, but its fun to watch the machinery work and lots of very interesting information along the short tour! Of course you end at the gift shop, but they have some great gifts that are worth it. Great stop on a rainy day, good for kids as long as your kids arent needy pansies and can think for themselves! read more

My grandpa Joe and I found a golden ticket inside a bag of potato chips inviting us on this tour, so naturally we had to go. He hadn't been out of bed in a long time, so I figured the warm salt breeze of Cape Cod might do him well. When we arrived, we found it absolutely mobbed. The parking lot was full and there was a line out the door. We ventured inside anyway, where we were treated to the most fascinating hallway we had ever seen. The workers had orange face paint and wore overalls, which might have been strange but it was the Cape and wasn't even the weirdest thing we had seen that day. The owner was totally eccentric and offered us a boat ride on a river made of chip grease, which we politely declined as the tour had become awfully dark. A girl was turned into a barbecue chip. A kid got stuck in a chip chute. It was a real mess but the gift shop at the end made everything worth it. If you've never had Cape Cod potato chips, you owe it yourself to try a bag. They are much better than Slugworth Chips. read more

We opted to stop by the Cape Cod Chip Factory tour on a rainy first day of vacation. It wound up being a very fun experience and we're glad that it was available. Bottom line is that it's an interesting and inexpensive entertainment option for adults and kids alike. read more

Saddest factory tour. You walk through a small hallway and look through 4 windows into the factory floor. It took a whooping 3 minutes. Sad The gift shop had 4 different types chips at $3.79 a bag. No deals at all. You can get a better deal and selection at the grocery store. Clearly they don't care about their customer experience. This is the New York Jets of factory tours: terrible and a waste of time. read more

Since we were in the area we decided to visit the famous Cape Cod chip Museum. Contrary to what we thought the museum was very very small. Fortunately it was free and it was a quick visit. Inside you would see windows featuring what's happening inside the potato chip factory. Make sure to pick up your complimentary bag of small potato chips. The place does not allow photography or videography. Just try to sneak in photos here and there. My ladies and I enjoyed it. Since it's free there's nothing to lose. There's plenty of parking on the side of the museum. read more

Went on a summer vacation and visited the factory which is a cool self guided tour! In the end there is a cute little gift shop, I thought it would be a great idea to send a case of chips to my staff to let them know I was thinking of them on vacation. I have been waiting 7 weeks and they have not arrived! I have left several messages and not even a return phone call, this is not acceptable. I would have at least hoped I would get a return phone call but nothing. I have also tried emailing so we shall see the outcome. If you go just buy what you want there because the rest in unreliable. read more

I love cape cod chips and buy them every week in the grocery store. I was disappointed to discover that the original 8oz bag of chips for $3.79 retail (grocery store price) at the factory you get two 8oz bags for $5.00. I tried to buy the 8oz" less fat" chips also $3.79 per bag and there is no deal on these or any other flavors. It is the same price as the grocery store. We were disappointed that only original was a discount price everything else is regular price. Makes no sense . read more

Who wouldn't love something that is free? Visiting the Cape Cod Kettle Cooked Potato Chip Factory Tour is free and the self-guided tour only takes about 15 minutes or less if I don't read any of the information. Parking is also free. I don't recommend coming too early though if a person wants to see how the chips are made because I arrived at 9:15AM and the factory seems to be a bit empty with not all machines running. After parking the car, my husband and I walk along a specific trail with informational signs before we walk into the building. When we went into the building, the self-guided tour is a short hallway where we can quickly walk straight through. Kids will not have the patience to read all the information on the walls and will only be interested in watching what is going on beyond the windows. I think walking through the hallway takes about ten minutes if we read everything. Some of the machines weren't operating because I think we came too early. At the end of the tour is the gift shop where we can buy chips and there is a bin of sample bag chips in the middle of the gift shop, serving as our free bag of chips. Because I visited before July 4th, Cape Cod Potato Chips had a promotion of buying four bags for $12. I took advantage of it because some of the flavors look good and I honestly don't know where to buy these chips in my everyday life. My husband did see these chips on the shelf at Fairway markets. I loved the Jalapeno flavor chips. The buying experience was fun, but the tour itself was boring. I'd come back just to buy some chips and get a free bag of chips. PROS: free self-guided tour, free sample chip bags, free parking CONS: Coming too early results in not seeing much machinery action, boring tour read more

The tour was a dud for us, they had no potatoes because of the poor weather so production was at a standstill. The tour is short and self guided, you walk down a hallway. The shop at the end sells the potato chips but their prices are kind of high. read more

The chip factory "tour" is pretty pointless. You just walk down a hallway and read some signs (one of which had a spelling error). You only get a small bag of chips at the end of the tour, so don't get your hopes up to try tons of fresh chips. The best part was the gift shop. We found limited edition flavors for sale that are not available to us in Texas. We purchased the Mediterranean and Honey mustard and they were both excellent. Cape Cod chips are definitely great quality. read more

It's raining? Why not go? It's fun, it's free, and there are chips at the end. We found if you keep your expectations low, you'll enjoy it more. If you bring your own zip lock bags, you can fill them up for free. Okay no, that is a LIE, but a girl can dream, can't she? May I suggest a quick stop after at Cape Cod Beer for a (brief) tour and some samples. read more

Not much to see. Worth maybe 15 min to walk through. And I had to take my toddler out of the stroller even though it was flat.

Cape Cod potato chips are my favorite chips, I have been eating them for years. I love how crunchy they are.

Sure, why not? If you're already in the area, go for it! It's a free self-guided tour where after you've read about their manufacturing process, peered into their factory, & seen freshly made chips tumbling from one conveyer belt to the next, you get (what's mah favorite word?!) free bags of chips (2 per person.) No complaints, I got to try feta & rosemary, reduced fat (salty, not bad considering I don't normally eat reduced fat anything) & original. We picked up a couple of bags in the adjoining store for later. Who doesn't have time for a 15-minute chip pit stop? read more

The Cape Cod Chip Factory has a self-guided tour. I really wanted someone to talk to me and tell me stories. But being that everything was free...I can't complain much about it. Everything was free from the parking, the self-guided tour to the sample chips. No one rushed us. We wanted to watch the potatoes going into the fryer, watching it being pulled out of the oil to the spinner down to the conveyor to move it to the inspectors, then the bagging of the chips and then the packing of the bags of chips for shipping. I love watching how things are made so this was a cool tour for me. Would I go again...sure. Who doesn't love kettle chips??! My bf bought some limited batch special chips to take home from the gift shop. read more

I love the potato chips...so figured on a rainy day the tour would be a perfect destination. The tour is a very quick self guided tour. I was a bit disappointed when the walk from the parking lot took longer than the whole tour! All we were able to see was a single employee cutting the bad parts of potatoes (something you would see at anyone's house around a holiday). There is a movie of the whole production...a movie you can find on YouTube. So really not much to see here... but if you crave a tiny bag of free chips go! read more

If you are a tourist and have a small child - go. Otherwise? You can get most of the products cheaper in the Stop & Shop. That said, our 4 year old LOVED the self guided (yes, self guided) tour and watching the chips fry. What we all loved even more though were the free sample packs of chips and being able to taste some of the flavors of chips and popcorn. the good thing here is that ALL varieties are available - like the New Sweet Cream Butter popcorn and Buttermilk Ranch chips. We only bought the hard to find flavors. The rest? We'll get 'em at our local market. read more

How have I never review here before? Rainy day on the Cape? Go to the potato chip factory. Yes yes it only lasts a good 10 minutes MAYBE but you get to see how Americas favorite potato chips are made. Then pop down the road to the Cape Brewery for a quick taste. If you're in the area why wouldn't you? read more

Came here for the first time I ever came to the cape. Ya, I was the tourist. LOL I was on vacation and it was raining what else am I going to do? I love cape cod chips and it was cool to go to the factory. You cant really see them making the chips, its not really a "tour". You just walk down this little hallway and look at the machines and read the plaques. At the end theres FREE chip samples. They even have popcorn. I didnt know they made popcorn? My favorite is the Jalapeno chips. SPICY! They have a cute souvenir shop. I bought a shirt. Reasonably priced. $18. Overall good experience. Wish I could see more of the factory but I guess for sanitary reasons we cant get that close. read more

Huge disappointment! I love the chips, but the "tour" is absolutely worthless. You see some potatoes, then big metal machines, then some chips going up a conveyor belt. No one is there to explain or enthuse you about the product. Why does this "tour" exist? This company needs to go to the Ben and Jerrys Ice cream plant in Waterbury, VT to see how a real tour should be done. Again, huge disappointment. read more

This was ok. I am glad we went, because I've always wanted to go and now I know that I never need to go back. Tour is self guided and essentially you walk down a hallway, look in windows and read some posters. I am glad the tour is free. We did buy some of the new flavors of chips that they had in their gift shop, neither have appeared in stores near us yet so that is sort of neat. If you're in the area, stop by, but not recommended to take a vacation or trip out of your way to go there. read more

Cape Cod Potato Chips - Yum - Tours Near Me - Hyannis, Massachusetts

Do not waste your time or gas money traveling to Hyannis for this Self-guided tour. I realize they are under construction and are adding videos to the 100' hallway, but there was nothing happening when we went. We saw some potatoes moving down the production line and someone sorting through the chips, but that was it. Not sure the videos will make it that much better. No free chips, no discounts, and the shelves were pretty Depleted. read more

Pretty disappointing. They did say that they just moved back in from a 3 month renovation - the space is really nice and clean. But it was an incredibly short tour. There was no signage up, just a few "coming soon" signs on the wall and a tv. You can't really see too much in terms of them making the actual chips. I'd love to see more about the history - for example replicas of all the chip bags ever made by them. And the gift shop to have way more choices. I love CC Potato Chips, but was really disappointed by this experience. Hoping they make some big improvements in this renovation phase to improve the overall experience. It was clear that they were not done, but opened the doors anyway. read more

Your typical factory tour which means you just meander through and get your free bag of chips. However, it is pretty cool learning about how it is being made. My sister loves factory tours so this was planned during the week since that's when it was open. I don't know if they have the same hours now. read more

Kind of disappointing. We pulled up to this big factory expecting to walk through where they made the chips. We followed the lines to the inside of the building, there was a friendly lady at the front desk who directed us to the to the self guided tour. Come to find out the tour is nothing more than a hallway with some windows, we drove 30 minutes to walk down a short hallway that led into a gift shop. The gift shop had cool shirts and different flavored chips and a bucket of tiny bags that were free. Overall I wasn't impressed, I was hoping to get chips right off the line or something. Don't come here if your not looking to walk down a hallway. read more

As an almost native Cape Codder (we moved there when I was 7), I feel I speak with authority. Just an aside. . .check this out. . .the founder of Cape Cod Potato Chips was a client of my Dad's way back then, and I went fishing when Mr. B brought HIS daughter along. I've been on the factory tour, but not for years. The chips have made it nationwide, and still taste great. Kettle style are my favorite, and Cape Cod has some awesome flavor varieties. My current faves are Russet and Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper. Mmmm. It may be partly nostalgia, as I'm not a big chip-eater in general, but those Cape Cod Potato Chips always hit the spot. read more

I love cape cod chips ! Great little tour but did expected to see a little more- a full walk around the plant In order to see the equipment in use from all angles. I wouldn't generally complain about a no stroller rule, except that the entire self guided tour is a single hallway, the length of the building, with plenty of room for two people to walk side by side (read: pass one another), and no access to any part of the facility where the food is actually made. I'm sort of at a loss as to why they ban strollers in the first place. I ended up holding my seven month old and taking the short hike from the far end of the parking lot through the tour. A lady with a wheel chair had an easy time taking the tour so, again, why no strollers? As far as the tour itself, it's rather basic. If you've ever watched "how stuff works", you'll get a better understanding of potato chip manufacturing in a ten minute segment of that show than you would here. I always like to hear about the history behind a product, but this tour was devoid of that. There is no access to the actual production rooms, except what you can view through the glass, though this is understandable it being a food processing facility and all. You get two free baggies of chips at the end. There are also some modestly priced shirts, stickers, and of course chips for purchase at the gift shop. This was a fun and free stop on our trio to the cape with some visitors, but it's not something I would be interested in doing again. I think we were in and out in about twenty minutes. read more

We went on the short self-guided tour and bought a ton of sample-sized bags of chips and one giant bag of white cheddar popcorn, which is what I grew up eating :) We also got a couple of free bags of the original flavor chip. I would recommend the short tour - it's free, and it's a nice drive to get there and plenty of other cute things to do in the area while you're visiting. Sure, it's not much, but what do you expect? It's just a fun thing to do if you like visiting factory-tour type things, if you are interested in how they make chips, or if you love cape cod potato chips. Love these chips. read more

Ok, I get that it is a self guided tour. I've been on those before. But the factory isn't laid out in a way that you can actually see _anything_ at all. The windows off of the hallway aren't large and weren't very clear. The only equipment along the windows is a conveyor that wasn't operating when we were there. And the employees seem to think the people on the tour are an annoyance, as we got a couple of gruff "excuse me's" when they needed to get by my family looking through the door windows. Just another FYI, no photos are allowed inside. Since you cannot see any real part of the operation, I wonder if they're more concerned with pictures of code violations rather than industrial chip espionage. Another review summarizes that it is worth the trip if you're within 10 minutes of the factory. I'd shorten that and say it's worth it if you're on their road, but it isn't worth a trip from any distance at all. I still like the chip, though I did learn in the gift shop that they discontinued my favorite russet potato chips. read more

The reviews below are all quite accurate. Hallway and free are the recurring themes. A neat walk through the factory looking in on production via windows. More details, information or even someone to have asked questions of would have been better. But hey, it's free. Beware of a rainy day. The narrow hallway is congested on the nicest of days, I can't imagine the pain on a crowded rainy day. The gift shop is nice with a great selection of chips and other Cape Cod gift items. read more

This "factory" is really in the middle of an office park and the building looks like an average office. However, you do see how they make the potato chips... not a big operation considering that they distribute their products widely. You can cover the whole tour in less than 5 minutes. btw... they give you 2 small sample bags for free and sell the rest of their products at full retail price ($3.99). I bought a few bags at the "factory" and then found out that the Stop & Stop supermarket a few blocks away was selling them at $5 for 2. I got ripped off.. :-) read more
