Hy-Line Cruises Customer Service Complaint My experience with Hy-Line Cruises on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, raises several legitimate customer-service concerns. The biggest issue is not simply that I misunderstood the departure location; rather, it is that the staff failed to communicate clearly, failed to proactively notify us of the cancellation, and then charged us an additional $11 without adequately explaining the change in service. I want to make clear that I am not complaining simply because the original cruise was unavailable. I understand that circumstances, including weather, can affect scheduled cruises. My concern is with the manner in which the situation was handled by the ticket-booth staff. I would like to address the following: Website confusion: I purchased two tickets online for what I believed was the two-hour Cape Cod Canal Cruise departing from Hyannis. Based on the information presented on the website, I reasonably believed I had selected Hyannis as the departure location. The website was not sufficiently clear or user-friendly to prevent this confusion. Poor communication at the ticket booth: When I arrived at the Hyannis ticket booth, the male agent asked whether I was there for the 4:15 p.m. cruise. I explained that I was there for the 4:00 p.m. cruise and showed him my booking on my phone. He then told me that I was in the wrong place. When I asked where I needed to go, the conversation became confusing, with the agent repeatedly referring to "the other end" without providing clear directions. Inappropriate and unhelpful information: I was eventually told by the female agent that I needed to go to Onset. When I asked where Onset was because I was not from the area, I was told, "Boston," followed by the statement that unless I could fly, I would not make it. This was an extremely unhelpful response to a customer who was simply trying to determine where the cruise departed. No proactive communication about the available alternative: I was eventually told that there was an ice-cream cruise departing from Hyannis at 4:15 p.m. The female agent stated that she would have to ask the captain whether my companion and I could go on the cruise. I agreed to wait. I had to approach the booth for an update: At approximately 4:16 p.m., I noticed that nobody was boarding the vessel. Since no one had provided us with an update, I returned to the ticket booth and asked whether the captain had approved our boarding. Only then was I told that we could go on the cruise. Unexpected additional $11 charge: I was then told there would be an additional $11 charge for the two of us. This was never adequately explained. I had originally purchased tickets for a two-hour Cape Cod Canal Cruise, and I was now being placed on a one-hour Hyannis harbor cruise that served ice cream. I do not understand why I was required to pay an additional $11 for a substantially different and shorter cruise. I believe I am entitled to an explanation of how the $11 additional charge was calculated. Failure to inform us of the cancellation: After being given the new tickets, my companion and I walked toward the boarding platform. There was a rope across the walkway, preventing us from boarding. At that point, my companion approached the ticket booth because I did not want to deal with the two employees again. She was then informed that the 4:15 p.m. cruise had been cancelled because of high winds and that we had been moved to the 7:00 p.m. cruise. We were never notified: This is perhaps the most troubling part of the experience. Had I not returned to the booth at approximately 4:16 p.m. to ask whether the captain had approved our boarding, and had my companion not subsequently approached the booth after seeing the rope across the walkway, we apparently would have continued standing there without knowing what was happening. At no point did either employee proactively tell us that the 4:15 p.m. cruise had been cancelled. Last-minute change to our plans: We were ultimately moved to the 7:00 p.m. cruise, which substantially changed the experience and timing of what we had originally purchased. I understand that high winds can necessitate a cancellation, and I am not blaming Hy-Line Cruises for the weather. However, passengers should be promptly and clearly informed when their cruise is cancelled or rescheduled. Overall Concern The entire experience at the Hyannis ticket booth was unprofessional and unnecessarily confusing. The initial problem may have originated with my misunderstanding of the online booking information, but the situation was made considerably worse by the manner in which the employees communicated--or, more accurately, failed to communicate--with us. At no point did the employees provide a clear explanation of what had happened with my original reservation, clearly explain our alternatives, explain the additional $11 charge, or proactively inform us that the 4:15 p.m. cruise had been cancelled. read more

A fun day touring the Cape Cod Canal. The tour guide was great, informative without being dry. You pass under the railroad bridge, Bourne Bridge, and Sagamore Bridge. It's a no-wake zone throughout, so it's a calm, peaceful ride. Its inexpensive, and is a fun thing to do on a nice day like it was. read more

If you book online make sure that you get the tickets from the booth even if they send you what looks like the ticket to get on board. Waited an hour to get on board then wound up having to get back on a long line and got lousy seats. read more

So underwhelmed by this experience. I'm not sure why they call it a "family cruise" when there's nothing geared towards families? The mediocre at best band - Leah and Colleen- singing as many songs they could find about "being high (and even giving up on notes they couldn't hit on one of those songs about being high. Wow.) Not a single announcement for interesting things to look at (I know it's not a tour but there's maybe 4 things the entire cruise, the rest of the time there's nothing to see so felt like a softball.) No water for sale a half hour before docking...yeah, just overall very meh experience and would not recommend. read more

August 19, 2022 Hy-Line Cruises Cape Cod Canal Cruises Viking 3 Hour Tour 10am - Departure 1pm - Return An Excellent Expedition It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood and the perfect weather for a boat ride, so I went on the Viking out of Onset Pier and took a trip down Cape Cod Canal today. The Cape Cod Canal Crew is amazing! Will Martin was our tour guide and he did a fantastic job by giving us a historical lesson about the Cape Cod Canal, it's islands and the houses that are built along it. Paul was sitting in the back of the boat and he was there for people if they had any questions. Bartender Jack was downstairs helping people by serving them food and drinks. Captain Shawn was behind the wheel steering the boat safely along the canal. The first time I took the Viking was last summer and I had a wonderful time just like I did this time. I highly recommend taking a trip down the Cape Cod Canal, because it's a fun and amazing historical experience. I find that it's important to learn the history about the town and the surrounding towns in which you live, because it's in our past that teaches us a lesson in how to live in our future. My friend and I were dying to go out on a boat but we were hesitant because of Covid. We decided to try the 6 PM cocktail cruise on the Cape Cod Canal. We called about a half hour before and inquired as to how many people had bought tickets. They were only four other people on the boat so we were able to successfully social distance. It was an awesome time. We learned a lot of history that we didn't know about prior to the cruise and were able to see the railroad bridge up close. But, the highlight of the entire trip was seeing the railroad bridge be lowered, a train go across it and it go back up. It was pretty amazing. I would highly recommend doing this if you're in the area! And if you're worried about Covid like we were, call in advance To see how many people booked. They were taking precautions with everybody wearing masks and cleaning the boat prior to the next cruise. read more

Our neighbor organized a bunch of us to go on the afternoon 90 minute cruise, so it was fun to catch up with everyone and I appreciate the amount of coordination he had to do to get this organized. When we first arrived the lot was full, so we parked in the 2 hour parking nearby, hoping we would be back in time (we were by 2 minutes). After we parked, we saw some open spots in the cruise parking lot, so if you arrive in enough time, might be worth taking a second pass through the lot as cars seem to come and go and spots free up quickly. The parking app is a different one than Plymouth uses, it would be nice if they could coordinate these along the Cape so you don't have to have multiple parking apps on your phone. The Viking cruise itself was underwhelming. When you arrive, you can choose to sit in front, on the side, in the back or on the lower level. There seemed to be plenty of seating. There is a bar on the lower level, they accept credit cards which is nice. You can stand when the cruise departs, however, upon return everyone has to find a seat. There is about 30+ minutes of narration, however, it was challenging to hear over the engine motor. I caught about 20% of what was said. I also expected to hear a lot more history from the 1620 era, but there was not a lot of that info shared. It was cool to go under the bridge that lowers when the train comes by (the second longest lift bridge in the US, which I looked up after) and we saw Osprey and a couple seals on the way back. We also went under the Bourne bridge before turning back. Maybe this would have been more impactful if I was able to hear more of the commentary, but I left unimpressed. Onset is a cute place, several beach spots to hang out at and the restaurant at the Glen Cove hotel is just a 4 minute walk from the pier. The food at the restaurant is quite good. read more

Family of 6 went and we had such a great time! Very accommodating and understanding of things as well. The 90 minute canal cruise was our first and we will definitely be back to try the others they have to offer! Such a blast for the whole family! A marvelous short cruise from Onset through the Cape Cod Canal is offered all summer long and several times a day. I have never had a bad trip with HyLine and they really do a great job here. Also good that they host musicians at times and I have had a chance to catch the wonderful local band Groovy Afternoon on an evening cruise and the sound was excellent and the performers were mind blowing. read more

We do the Cape Cod Canal Cruise every 1-2 years. It's such a fun boat ride. Love the ride through the canal. It's nice to see the gorgeous houses in Onset. Going under the Bourne Bridge and the Cape Cod Rail Bridge is amazing -- both are engineering marvels. We'll be back for another cruise next year! read more

Excellent take! They run numerous cruises, we took the 3 hour cruise of the canal. Steven provided a solid 1.5hrs of the history of the canal and area surrounding it. He's extremely knowledgeable and made the trip most worthwhile. read more

Each summer we pick a night, go to Marc Anthony's for pizza and then on an evening cruise. We did it this year last night Boat leaves at. 6:30pm and returns at 8:30pm. It's called a cocktail cruise but all ages are welcome Tue-Thurs. The cruise goes all the way to the Sagamore bridge. Always enjoyable but they dropped a star this year. They used to serve cheese and crackers but stopped. They also used to play music but none was had. Still a decent take for a summer night read more
