We have been coming from our home in Oregon to ski at Snowbird for over 40 years, staying in our condos at Iron Blosam. For over 30 of these years, Canyon Transportation has been our "conveyance of choice". They have served us dozens of times, as over those 30+ years, we have come to Iron Blosam 3 times each ski season, staying for roughly 10 days each trip. We have found Canyon Transportation to be reliable, pleasant, comfortable, reasonably priced, and-most importantly-safe. Canyon Transportation is a big, complex company, with over 50 vehicles which service all the major ski areas in the Wasatch Range east of Salt Lake City, and other venues as well. Yes, there have been a few "glitches" over the years, and there was one incident in which the family of one of our children, who had come to ski with us for a week, was forced to miss their flight home--the result of a combination of a somewhat late pickup by the van, ("garbled communications"), at the same time when Little Cottonwood Canyon was being closed for avalanche control and removal of a car wreck. The resolution of this problem cost us a lot of time, anxiety, and fair amount of money, but Canyon, true to our expectations, stepped up and "made things right" for us.
There have been a few times over the years when we have tried other conveyances, or even taxicabs, to get up the Canyon, but none compares to Canyon in overall performance and value. They are specialists in negotiating difficult mountain roads in winter conditions. The road in Little Cottonwood Canyon is steep and windy, and can present difficult and dangerous conditions, ranging from ice to closure for avalanche control. We have alway felt safe in these conditions when being chauffeured by Canyon Transportation.
We find it surprising to read so many "negative" reviews of Canyon Transport. Some of these appear to come from people whose expectations seemed higher than Canyon is structured to provide. (You can't please all of the people all of the time.) But other criticisms, though sounding legitimate to us, resulted in a much lower score than what we would have given for the same "deficiency". Some reviewers have stated that other conveyances, such as Uber, Lyft, and other van services can bring people up to Snowbird for less money. That has not been our experience, and I would certainly choose Canyon Transport over these other entities when it comes to driving difficult mountain roads in winter conditions. Additionally, we have, on occasion, arrived in Salt Lake City to find the Little Cottonwood Canyon closed by avalanche. Canyon Transportation has special arrangements with a few downtown hotels, and coordinates overnight placement of the many stranded skiers caught in this situation, until the canyon road reopens.
Our 30+ years of experience has proven to us that Canyon Transportation is a trustworthy, safe, and reasonably priced choice for traveling between SLC airport and Snowbird, and we will continue to ride with them on all of our future trips--starting, in fact, tomorrow!!
