The rock shop was definitely interesting! They had quite the variety on display and the staff were very friendly. There was a bit of a ceiling leak in one area of the store and they had some tarps hanging down into a bucket. It wasn't a very pleasant sight, but I guess they were doing what they could until it was fixed. We stopped at the ice cream counter on the way out and I was very glad that we did. The prices were crazy for the portion sizes! They have a cookie ice cream sandwich option for around $2.69. You're able to choose your own two cookies and whatever ice cream. I had bear claw ice cream with two peanut butter cookies. The ice cream was so chocolatey and the cookies were perfectly soft and even had some peanut chunks. Would recommend! read more

SUCH a great rock shop. The most helpful, knowledgeable, and kind staff as well as a fantastic selection of rocks. If you buy a geode, they'll cut it for you for free (before 7:30pm) right in front of you. Definitely worth a visit if you're into rocks or fossils. Disregard some of the other reviews that have issues with the ice cream shop next door and not with the actual rock shop. read more

The Rock Shop looks like another tourist trap from the outside but is actually quite cool. There are multiple geodes for sale where you choose the one you want, pay for it, show the receipt and then someone will cut it nicely down the middle for you. This is the only place that does this for miles around. Although this place is unique, what is truly great about this place is the staff, in the peak months May-September. My friend and I's favorite was John. He is knowledgeable about the geodes and takes his time to cut them and does not rush through it like some of the other staff. He also has fun chitchat while you wait and is overall a kind genuine person. Another one of our favorites was Micki. She was a very sweet lady and always interested in our finds. John and Micki gave this place a small town feel, so much so that we visited everyday we were there. That being said, some of the other staff Chuck and Michelle along with some others were not the friendliest to customers or colleagues and could use some practice respecting others. read more

There isn't much in the actual town just outside Bryce Canyon and this little "Rock Shop" is actually a cluster of shops and has the Rock Shop on one end, an ice cream parlor in the middle, and a gift shop with shirts and other small wares on the other end. There is seating outside with some tables and the whole things looks like an old wild west town. We stopped in and looked at the rocks - they have some beautiful and cool items. Lamps made from natural gemstones and rocks as well as some small, touristy take home things and they have a beautiful selection of local Utah sandstone art. We decided to get ice cream at the wrong time because there were about 4 people in line when we entered and then when we got in line to purchase (you pay first) there were about 40 people in line, it snaked all the way around the building and into the other room. The line went fairly quickly - the employees working inside were all foreign and spoke broken English, the kid making my sundae didn't know how to use a whipped cream can... The ice cream was OK - but it wasn't the best - and wasn't worth a 20 minute wait in line. But it was hot, I'd hiked all day, and we were hungry. It hit the spot. read more

I will preface this review by stating that this review will be fair and accurate description of my experience at the ice cream shop. There is no separate business for the ice cream shop. It was located in the cluster of stores across the street from Best Western Ruby's Inn. We are first time visitors to Bryce Canyon and chose to stay at Ruby's Inn. We went close to closing time so only had time to visit the ice cream shop to give our kids a sweet treat after a long day of hiking. The girl behind the counter taking our order, Hadley, was completely rude from the moment we walked in. We stood patiently at the ice cream counter and waited for her to notice, and even ater brief eye contact, she did not initiate taking our order. In fact, it was someone who came from the back of the shop who asked if we had been helped. At that point Hadley was forced to help us. She was terse and rude and made it abundantly clear she had no intention of making any effort at all to be helpful or even nice. When my husband paid with a credit card and asked for a receipt she said printer wasn't working. He said it would have been helpful to know that beforehand she got even more rude, instead of attempting any type of customer service or resolution she essentially shrugged us off like it was no big deal and not her problem. I'm sorry but any credit transaction we are extra careful with since we have had experience with fraudulent charges to our accounts. When i asked for her name she provided it with another comment of the printer not working, i thanked her and walked away and could clearly hear her call me "creepy". For what!!?? Asking for her name? It was out of line and even more insulting because there was a line of people who heard her as well. Worst experience ever at this ice cream shop! I wouldn't waste your money there, you can go across the street and visit the general store or even the cowboy diner. Anywhere bit there where service was awful and staff are outright rude to customers. read more

The family that owns Ruby's has a 100 year history in the area and owns many businesses including an Inn, Resturaunt, RV Park, Horse rides, etc... The little strip of Rock gift shop, ice cream shop, and horse rentals is an extension of the Ruby's business. This is located directly outside of theNational Park in the town of Bryce Canyon City. It was a great stop to indulge in a sweet treat after our hike in the park. They offer shaded places to sit and eat your ice cream. Sundaes are only $3.49 for a generous amount of ice cream that two or more can share. You can also pick up a Bryce Canyon T-shirt for $10.99 here. Quite a deal! read more

If you're looking for rocks, this is a great place. Cut in store geodes, rough rocks, polished, really all kinds. But my favorite thing was the customer service. There were several friendly and knowledgeable employees who helped us, including Gary who cut our geode and took the time to kneel down and explain to my kids what they were seeing. This is connected to an ice cream shop that we liked too, which had very reasonable prices. read more

The buildings are like a small Western town you see in a cowboy flick. There is a corral with ponies and horses for paid rides. The animals stand there in a catatonic state even when I go up to say hello. They don't even blink except for one who moved. The sweet shop was our entry point. Hubby got a large coffee. She filled the cup 2/3 full and said that was their large. Where is Starbucks when you need one? It wasn't all that cheap either. Sheesh. You walk thru the different rooms. Some have t shirts and food. The last 2 rooms were dedicated to rocks. The lady in there acted as if she didn't want to help us until I found something. She told me to go pay in the other room and it turns out she was the cashier. A couple of gents who either work or own the place came in and at least one of them greeted us while she ran off to find a business card with info on the back about the Utah honeycomb Rock I got for BFF in the shape of a bear. Go Cal Bears! Not the friendliest place. Maybe they're better during peak tourist season. read more

Showed up at 8:15 pm they say open till 8:30 pm they were already closing shop our family wanted ice cream and probably had close to 50 people still wanting ice cream. They didn't care and a man was yelling at us that they didn't need our business. I will never return and will tell everyone I know. People don't shop at this place in this economy you would think every dollar mattered. read more

Not much choices in regards to souvenirs. If you're looking for strictly rocks, then you're in the right place. If you're looking for a magnet, you're better off buying one at the visitor center for $3-5 or Bumbleberry Gift Shop where they have LOTS of souvenirs. read more

The Rock Shop is connected to the General Store across from the Ruby's Inn Best Western. It is part of the old west themed strip mall, "Old Bryce Town." Great place to buy a Utah rock or petrified wood as a souvenir after hiking in Bryce Canyon. Other items available such as jewelry, fossils, etc. The cashier was very informative and you could tell she truly loved her job as well as her home state. If you're a rock enthusiast, there is a rock yard to explore and buy by the pound (minimum $1.00). read more
