What a tour. The scenery in Canyon De Chelly is breath taking. The rock formations are colorful and varied. They are several locations with ancient ruins and petroglyphs which are awe inspiring. But anyone can show you the sites. The folks at Canyon De Chelly tours are amazing. We received several calls after we booked our tour making sure we would get what we needed. For me, I needed a larger vehicle because of mobility issues. We were picked up by Autumn at our hotel and the adventure began. Autumn was very knowledgeable. She shared her knowledge about the geography and the ancient people who made the canyon their home. Autumn gave us details on everyday life of the ancient people and today's Navajo. She had great stories about the meanings of the pictographs and how the ancient peoples grew food and moved about the canyon

We had a WONDERFUL tour on October 11, 2023! Irene was a fabulous guide. So knowledgeable. Great sense of humor. She had us laughing and amazed at stories from her life in the canyon. She drove that (very comfortable Hummer through the sand like a pro!) She answered our questions with honest knowledge or admitted when she didn't know. We are so glad we booked a local Navajo guide & felt good knowing our money was going to hard-working Navajos. At no time did we feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Then 45 minutes after our tour, I discovered that I had left my Nikon camera in the Hummer. We called Irene and headed back to Chinle. Irene met us at a gas station so I could get my camera. What a treasure Irene is. We look forward to returning and booking another tour with Irene. ASK FOR IRENE! She is great!

Spent an absolutely fantastic afternoon in the canyons with Richard, our incredible guide. We were surrounded by abject beauty and amazing ruins giving glimpses into the lives of cultures now gone from these places. As we marveled at the space, Richard shared the perfect amount of illuminating knowledge with his tremendously engaging storytelling style. Richard is a true treasure and I hope as many people as possible get the opportunity to spend such a perfect perfect afternoon! I also have to give tremendous praise to the entire "back office" support team here! From the very moment I went to the clear and informed website and booked our tour, the customer service was impeccable! We felt so warmly approached and personally cared for. The reviews for this organization had us very excited but the entire team's flawless execution vastly surpassed our expectations! Thank you all so much! Highly highly recommend!

We had an amazing 4 hour hike into the canyon. We saw ruins, river crossings, petroglyphs and pictographs. What a beautiful and sacred place. You will see so much more than if you just make a quick visit to Canyon de Chelly and only go to the rim. The tour guide tailored our hike to what interested us, and we did a point to point route so we could go a little farther and see more. I am sure a jeep tour would be fun too, but we loved doing it on foot and getting up close at our pace. So different seeing it from inside the canyon than just at the rim. What a treasure Canyon de Chelly is!

I have been hoping to go to Canyon de a Chelly for the last 15 years and for one reason or another I was never able to get there. I have never done a keep tour, we are more the hiking type. But we wanted to go down to the canyon floor and didn't have time or ability to do a long hike. At first, I was a bit concerned because we have two little children and we weren't sure how that was going to go with a 3 hour tour. We met our tour guide Delvonnia at the Best Western. My husband strapped our two car seats to the back of the Jeep and off we went into the Canyon. We were greeted by a family of wild horses that live in the canyon by the two owls. We stopped several times to look at the cliff dwellings and learned about the history of the canyon from our amazing tour guide, who grew up in the Canyon. The weather was cloudy and we were graced with thunder and rain towards the end at our last stop at White House. We loved Delvonnia, she was so knowledgeable. But not only that, she was so happy to share her upbringing at the Canyon and her culture. We really enjoyed talking to her all 3 hours and even more because we ran a bit over time. She was a great driver and was so nice with the kids. Our kids did not cry or utter one word the entire time and were super happy at every stop to play on the dirt and look at the jeeps big wheels lol. It was so much more than we ever dreamed of and we even agreed that we had the best tour guide we've ever had. I would definitely recommend this tour and ask for Delvonnia if she's available. It was definitely a once in a lifetime trip.

We had a great time! We did a 3 hour afternoon tour. There were 4 of us in an H2 with Reginald. He was knowledgeable, personable, and very conscious of our safety. We saw petroglyphs, ancient structures, and heard stories about the Navajo people. Reginald played his traditional flute for us, and we were lucky enough to see a demonstration of an atlatl (spear thrower) by one of his fellow guides. We were originally going to take a 4 hour hike, but opted for the jeep tour instead, given that it was 100 degrees. So so glad we did!

I can't tell you how much we enjoyed our tour with Reginald!! It was an amazing trip and he is so knowledgeable of the area. Be prepared with good hiking boots or stable shoes as the area is rugged and some parts sandy but anyone with different activity levels can easily enjoy. This is a 1000 out of 10 experience for seeing the sights and learning about the significance of this area to the ancient Anasazi inhabitants and its importance to the Diné. I find this experience to be more breathtaking than the Grand Canyon and you're not going to find a more informative tour guide experience than with Canyon de Chelly Tours. Be curious, ask questions, be respectful of the land and enjoy this beautiful excursion!

We recently had the pleasure of staying in Chinle and taking a canyon tour. Our tour guide Jarvin Yazzie was amazing from the moment he greeted our family (3 adults, 2 teenagers, and 1 active 4 year old) until he dropped us off back at our van after. Jarvin showed us many beautiful sites but also taught us a lot about the Navajo culture including a few words of the language (sorry, Jarvin if we were terrible at getting some of the sounds right). He was patient and kind with our 4 year old member who called on him frequently. We do enjoyed meeting family and seeing home life. We bought some beautiful pieces which have a very special place in our home so we can recall the beautiful experience we had. This tour was a true highlight of our vacation and enjoyed by all -- even the 4 year old. We will definitely be booking another tour next time we are in the area. So glad the rain held off that day so we got to see so much. Thank you Jarvin for a beautiful experience and for sharing your beautiful culture with us!

His family's been here for generations and Adam's been a certified guide since he was 13. It shows: After learning that we wanted to spend the day hiking Canyon de Chelly while hearing Diné stories, he considered our ages (early 60's) and capabilities (pretty strong hikers) and paired us with his son Bryan (36) for a hike down the grippy sandstone Bear Trail, a leisurely stroll along the Canyon Del Muerto side of the Monument, then back out again. Perfect! Bryan shared a ton of fascinating history and stories during our nearly 8-mile hike (784' of vertical). Generations of Bryan's family have lived in the canyon, including, until recently, his grandpa Ben, and their ancestor Barboncito, the Head Chief of the Navajo when the Bosque Redondo Treaty of 1868 was signed. The treaty ended The Long Walk, enabling the tribe to return to Canyon de Chelly, and established the reservation that would become the Navajo Nation. We met his cousins, uncle, and his auntie made us Navajo fry bread for lunch in the shade of tall cottonwood trees at the bottom of the canyon, just before the turnaround point at Fortress Rock. Riveting oral history, hiking, kindness, hospitality, and an amazing day I'll remember for the rest of my life - totally recommend!!

Adam Teller is a very angry man! To give a one star rating…read moredescribing this tour as not good is quite an understatement. It was a terrible tour, and left a unforgettably bad impression on myself, my wife and our two friends alike. To start off the tour we went to the Navajo Recreation Department to pay our $8.00 each fee to enter the canyon. There in the parking lot he began a gripe session describing how the Navajo people have been plundered and marauded by the white people and his court appearances to fight against all the injustice done to Navajo Nation and his land. That lasted about 20 minutes. It got worse from there. Describing himself as a rebel with Christian parents he displayed a total disgust of anything and anybody Christian. He recalled to us how as a child he was abused by a Catholic priest. This memory left Adam with a lasting and resentful resentment towards all Christians. We agreed with him that that was a terrible thing to have endured but he brushed off our affirming comments as not sincere even though we were. He claimed we thought he was the cause which was a ridiculous comment. He pushed on us his beliefs of reincarnation and the gods of his ancestry. We appreciated learning Navajo history but Adam pushed his beliefs on us telling us he "was wasting his time telling us any more". He had earlier described how he is working to be a Navajo medicine man. On ancient tombs he told how in 2017 he and his uncle inscribed fake petroglyphs on the canyon walls. This action caused us to have doubts on anything he showed us afterwards. He claimed his uncles try to steal his clients luring them onto their own tours. He spoke harshly of the white man in general, the US government, his Navajo family, the Hubbell Trading Post, and the National Park Service. Some of his complaints might be legitimate but when I said I was a Christian and don't believe in his religious beliefs he called the lot of us "Christian assholes". He alluded to leaving us in the canyon even though we were miles in as he claimed he previously did to some former Christian person in the past. He claimed we were the ones "full of anger" and that we "disrespected his temple", the canyon itself. After his insulting loud tirade he said he was not "taking us to his house". We presume that meant the canyon, and he turned around and hastily returned us to our pickup spot ending our tour over an hour early. We were all stunned and silent. No one said a word on the return. We all felt very uncomfortable. He had been so belligerent we even feared for our safety. The only good thing at the end was that after we all got out of his vehicle he pulled away without any payment, even though we felt obligated to at least prorate a portion of the quoted price. Now, after the fact, recollecting on his demeanor, he didn't deserve any payment. Do yourself a favor and find any tour other than Adam Tellers Antelope House Tour company. This review is meant to warn and prevent someone else having the same terrible experience we had.

I'll discuss that first because until the company fixes this issue, it will lead to the same problem for other as we experienced. Here's the problem: when you book the tour, it tells you to meet the tour guide in the lobby of The View Hotel. On the website before booking, it says "Please meet your guide in the lobby of the View Hotel next to the bronze statue of a cowboy riding a horse." In the email confirmation, it says "Your tour guide will pick you up at the beautiful View Hotel lobby!" Pretty clear, right? We're supposed to meet the tour guide in the lobby. No ambiguity here. We arrived in the lobby a full 15 minutes ahead of our 9:00am pickup - we were warned that the tour would leave precisely on time. 9:00 came and went with no sign of the tour guide or his vehicle. I call the office and get voicemail, but don't leave a message. A minute later I get a text message from their bot inviting me to start a conversation. I explain the problem, and get another automatically-generated response: "Thanks for letting me know! I'll check with our team and get back to you shortly." Over the next 10 minutes I send a couple more clarification messages, and receive no response at all. So we're starting to fret. We have a flight to catch later in the day, so if we miss this tour we won't have an opportunity to rebook. Then after a few minutes, a tour guide from a _different_ company comes in, sees us, and says that the meeting point for tours is outside. We walk out of the hotel lobby, and don't see anything at all, because the tour pickup point is across the parking lot and down a hill, completely out of view from the hotel entrance. We walk down, arriving 10 minutes after the "prompt" departure time, and join our tour. We could have completely missed our tour because of the company's inability to maintain an accurate website. But we lucked out today. The company never called or texted back to provide us with updated instructions about where to meet, and the tour guide didn't attempt to find us either. We are grateful to the guide from the different company who made sure we got on the tour. So, this could easily be a 2-star or worse review for this experience. But the fact of the matter is that the tour was really great once we got started. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining. He gave us recommendations about where to take pictures and took a couple creative ones for us. He shared Navajo history, mythology, and his own personal experiences growing up in the Navajo nation. We saw some beautiful scenery which left us wanting more.

Last June, this information was not as known as it is now, and given our long-standing plans to see Monument Valley, my fiancé booked a horseback tour hosted by Roy Black's Awesome Horse Tours. What has since ensued has been a fascinating exhibition of dishonesty that would be laughable if it wasn't such a waste of time. Read on: | 7/4/20 tour booked on 6/26/20 | It should have piqued our suspicions that Roy Black's website does not provide any means to cancel tours. It does, however, provide ample contact information -- phone numbers and email addresses -- which we deemed sufficient if a cancellation was necessary. On 6/26/20, two one-hour tours were booked for $155.40. | 7/4/20 tour cancelled on 6/27/20 | With more evidence supporting Monument Valley's apparent closure, we decided on 6/27/20 to cancel the tour that was booked on 6/26/20. My fiancé called Mr. Black and left a voicemail. She also left two emails on 6/27, explicitly declaring our intent to cancel the tour, but she did not receive replies for either. How curious. The next action was to contact the bank on the same day; a dispute was filed, and a temporary credit was issued. | 9/1/20: Surely you're joking, Mr. Black! | Per the bank, the temporary credit was reversed! While Mr. Black is a difficult gentleman to reach, the bank had no problem getting in touch with him. He explained that the $155.40 paid on 6/26/20 was nonrefundable given his 72-hour cancellation policy. I'll give you, dear reader, a moment to reflect upon this fatuous remark. For whomever would inconceivably need this to be explained, Mr. Black's claim would only be true if we cancelled on 7/1/20, 72 hours in advance of the 7/4/20 tour we booked.
