Reading the other reviews, I see I'm not alone in stopping here en route to Penticton (it's a good mid-point for a break). There's a small parking strip on the side of the building. I love supporting smaller shops and cafes, and this particular one is indigenous-owned so it seems extra special! Love the motto, too: "Don't panic..We have bannock!". Cute! The cafe is small but clean, with Indigenous artwork on the walls. Of course we ordered bannock! I ordered a maple one, and my kid ordered a berry one (might've been the Saskatoon berry, I forget). I'll be honest, they were absolutely delicious, and fresh, and fluffy and sweet and glazed, but mine absolutely did NOT have much of a maple taste - like, AT ALL. It was like the glaze on a Krispy Kreme glazed donut. Delicious, yes, and sugary, but not maple-y. My kid's berry one was very subtle in its berry flavor. Again, excellent, but not knock-out berry-y. To me, these treats were similar to donuts without the holes. More like fluffy fritters. Delicious, but not as unique as I thought they'd be. As for the coffees....my maple latte, again, sadly, did not taste at ALL maple-y. But it was an excellent coffee: very smooth and flavorful. You could tell the beans were excellent. There just was no maple taste. But my kid had a berry latte (again, I forget what kind), but this drink was EXCELLENT and it totally DID have a distinct berry flavor to it, and it was wonderful! (We both tried both bannocks and both lattes, and we both agreed on this review). We didn't try the sandwiches but they looked quite good. They also had some cute Kekuli Cafe merch for sale.

And although there isn't much competition around here, I would still say that this restaurant is worth a stop. The staff are all super friendly. The view of the lake is great. And the food is good. I got the breakfast wrap, which has a healthy portion of eggs and sauteed veggies. It tastes phenomenal and I would most certainly get it again. I had mine with fruit, which was fresh, but having tried the potatoes, I think that's the way to go! The only note is that they do put the salsa in the wrap, and so it does tend to leak out the bottom. The rest of the table got the salmon lox which looked phenomenal. Large portions of smoked salmon. The scrambled eggs are fluffy. And the onions and capers add really nice acidity. I am not a coffee or tea drinker, so unfortunately I can't speak to their drinks too well.

Merritt is a ghost town on Sunday…read more Being from Vancouver, I bounced out of the motel at a chipper and squirrel-like 10am and strolled down to the ten or so streets that make up downtown Merritt expecting to take my pick of brunch places. I tend to assume small towns are churchy because I watch a lot of movies and documentaries based from the USA, so I had visions of post-church families in crowded diners eating adorable meals and drinking tea. This is not so. There was nothing open. Except fast food, the Coldwater (I'll review that one later,) and Mandolin's which is near the grocery store. They had cornered the market, so I thought they didn't really need to try anymore. But holy hell, their bagel melt was awesome! They roast the turkey themselves, then add dill cream cheese, some onions, peppers, lots of cheese, and maybe other stuff, I lost track, but it is really good! Their coffee is good too. And they have soy milk. And Wifi! So I could just hang out there all day and work on stuff. Yay! If you find yourself in Merritt on a Sunday, totally go here.

The service was pretty proficient as well, where they use a beeper system to call customers from their tables. Although, they do call your name sometimes too. This business is a hotspot for special events as well with a bulletin board in the back telling you what is happening. The majority of the ingredients are from the owners local farm, including the cherries, apricots, fresh made bread and pies. Everything is made from scratch. Had our order taken by a rather surly unfriendly man. The coffee was outstanding but they seemed to be a bit short staffed so it wasn't refilled timely.
