Disclaimer - I am not a Canton Public Library member/card holder. I used to be though! This is my hometown library where I grew up reading books and studying through high school. I went back today to work remotely, as I was already in the area for something else. The nostalgia! While things look updated and newer since my days, it still have pretty much the same layout as I remembered. It ended up being a really nice place to work remotely for the day. There's plenty of open seating with outlets. There are also a number of quiet individual booths (for phone calls/meetings) as well as group rooms. There's also a dedicated silent study room for extra quiet and focus. Vending machines with food and drink in the front, and of course, the library is adjacent to Heritage Park which is nice. Also, the children's section is large and adorable. The different sized doorways leading into it is exactly the same as when I was a kid decades ago :'). read more

The last time I was here the Wi-Fi went out. It was not the first time this happened to me when visiting Canton Public Library. That on top of all the other issues I described in my last review make it harder for me to justify using this library. I love going to libraries and I have been to four other libraries in neighboring cities in the last month with better facilities and internet connection. read more

This is one of my fave Public libraries in the area! They're spacious! I love their chairs by the fireplace. They got quiet study rooms,as well. There's a park behind the library where you can take a walk. Lib staff are super helpful too. read more

This is absolutely my favorite library. It's super cozy they have plenty of rooms for group studying as well as individual rooms. Seats are comfortable and the library always has something going on for the community. You are allowed to drink and bring food which is great. They do have vending machines as well and plenty of parking. read more

This is an awesome place with a really nice staff! Okay, a little bit biased on that last part... I work here :) I was a patron for years before that, though, and always appreciated how clean the space was. It has a great children's area where I would take the kids I babysat to hang out. Truly a community space with intentional goals that pays attention to its patron needs (i.e. leaving chargers out for electronics). Now that I work here, I see how many programs there are and wish I would have taken advantage of some of those too. read more

Canton Library is my home away from home. I'm currently taking an online class, so I come here every day except the weekends. They've completely revamped and added a ton of more silent and group study spaces and.... LOTS AND LOTS MORE OUTLETS!!!! GOOD JOB CANTON LIBRARY. There's always a panicked group of people in libraries trying to find an outlet, but that is NOT the case here. There are ample outlets now. Such a good thing for us Library Leeches that spend hours working on our laptops here. (A Library Leech is defined as someone who spends 3+ hours in the library more than 3 times a week...but hey, that's what libraries are for....) This library also has lots of multilingual options. Magazines and books are available in Chinese, Hindu, Spanish, Urdu, Korean, etc...So this library is very culturally aware! I've seen this library for the last 10 years, going through different phases, and this place will always have a special spot in my heart. This is a no frills library where anyone feels welcome. The computer stations are free to use, and you don't need a library card to use the internet (in most libraries you do!) Other than being an asset to the residents of Canton, this is a nice place to spend some extra time if you're visiting Canton from another community. The Heritage Park is right next door, so take a walk on the trail or spend some time by the pond after you hit this gem up. The Canton Library is definitely the best part about Canton! read more

Although this library had nice facilities, I have a very negative impression that sticks with me since I've tried to work with them in booking events. The people working here didn't seem accommodating and actually seemed a little snobby and far too rigid, inflexible and difficult when it comes to reserving facilities for events. I could tell that some of the workers were looking at us from behind their desk and talking amongst themselves, having a complaining session about us as the focus when we asked for help or accommodation for our event. Wow, can you guys be that obvious? We know you're griping about us, but do you have to make it noticeable? So unprofessional and having an apathetic attitude. Even our speaker, who was a Canton resident and a Canton taxpayer, asking for a simple hook up the HDMI cable for his computer to the projector and he was appalled on their insistence that we pay $50 for the use of the cable. (Irregardless if we were not using the AV station which required a $50 fee) Seriously guys, do you really have to be so rigid? The people working here need customer service training, really. And by the way, I don't understand why so many reviews say this is the best library ever. Which is so untrue! Obviously people writing that has not been to many libraries and need to venture out more. This library is nothing compared to the Ann Arbor libraries which are far more better architecturally, the interior, the facilities, the ease of acquiring time and reservation for facilities without the unnecessary red tape. The Canton Public Library is the best library I have ever visited. I have been to bigger libraries and fancier libraries and more homey libraries but the one that actually provides all the services I could imagine from a Public Library is the Canton Public Library! As a public building and location it is kept clean and orderly. The bathrooms are kept up to date and clean. There is a small place to get snacks and drinks in the building and this concession area is also kept neat and clean. It is attractive as well. The staff are engaged and interested in individual patrons and their needs. They have assisted me in several ways. Not only is the building in great shape and the services inside first rate they have an excellent online presence. I have been able to use the services at the Canton Public Library to pursue my love of languages, track down my genealogy, perform historical research, biological research and other work. Of course I also get the materials I dearly love to read from here also. The organization of the library itself also involves the community in many wonderful projects they put on regularly. These include conversations, book reading and special guests. Their public rooms are available for reasonable rates. read more

The childrens section of the library is amazeballs. They have so many books and a play area for the little ones. Computers dedicated to the kids so they arent waiting to use them. The best part is the selection of titles and the activities. I was fortunate enough to attend story time with my munchkin. He loved it. The first half hour the story teller sings songs, reads stories and does an activity with the kids. On this day she had a giant parachute and scarves. The 2nd half is dedicated to play time, where a tubs of toys are brought out for the kids to play with. Overall, the library is clean, well organized and the childrens section is phenomenal. read more

Probably the best library I've been to! Very quiet, very clean. Equipped with vending machines, a snack area, video game check out, private 1 person rooms and group rooms available on first come first serve basis! Staff is very friendly and professional, everyone is welcome to access this library but you need a library card to check stuff out..(they have more than just books) movies and video games (new ones). Extremely unsatisfied: during restriction of pandemic, library is not extended cards automatically, were not able to register my daughter online for the program. When called, was on hold and transferred for about 7 minutes eventually when reached a person, was told that program is full, registration opened 16 minutes earlier... Why just simply not to extend cards automatically??? read more

This is a very nice library. I grew up in Canton, so maybe I'm partial, however as an avid reader and lover of libraries, I feel pretty confident saying this one is pretty great. What I like, big computer work stations and print centers(for those times you run out of ink or just don't want to waste yours) what makes it even more awesome is unlike many libraries I've visited anyone can log on no card required or password, also to print simply purchase a card from machine for 50 cents and load money onto it and your good to go. Easy peasey nice and easy! Gotta like that. This library is a nice size but not overwhelmingly. Easy to find materials and good spots to sit and relax and enjoy a book. The library also has a super good resale book shop that is fun to rummage through and on the cheap cheap. The staff is great, friendly and very helpful. Ample parking as well. One thing I was sad to see is the coffee house Jungle Java is no longer there which is a bummer! More then likely due to not enough business, so come on people visit your library more often it's an invaluable service to the community. read more

This library can be summed up in two words 'THEY CARE' and it shows from the moment you enter thru the lobby. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!

Local to where I live - this is the best Library around. I actually drive on occasion still - to come out to this location. It is a very inviting atmosphere. Large and spacious. Quiet due in part to that as you are not on top of each other or crowded into a confined area. They have a nice selection of books. Excellent kids area that might be the size of some library's in itself. They even have a coffee joint onsite which - although not huge - does add to the atmosphere. There is also computer, internet, printing access onsite. I think my only negative is I have felt the staff in there are a bit like the hardcore librarian you might have seen on the Seinfeld episode. I have been hassled a few times. It is not so much the premise, but how the staff handle it. Best example I can give - getting hassled over a 10 cent late feel. Yes - I said 10 cents. That was still being tracked from years ago on me (I had moved out of the community). Not to mention the lady was a snob about it. But hey - I guess everyone has a job to do. Otherwise - I can't complain and would certainly recommend. read more

We have been in Canton for little over 2 years now and visited this library maybe twice during that period. But now, I went there to get some work done away from distractions at home (family, dogs). I have been very surprised with the lay out as well as all the different areas to sit down and get stuff done. They have 6 glass enclosed individual cubicle spots; a silent study room with about 24 individual cubicles; a few group study rooms that need ot be booked in advance. There are also plenty of desks and chairs spread out in middle as well as along the walls of the library. The kid section is completely separate- beautiful space for toddlers and teens. Amazing part it yet to come. Get this. They have free Wifi and they have USB+Electrical outlets in almost every desk and lounge chairs!! That is amazing. I know, no body care; but their men's restroom is very clean and modernistic; I bet the female side is the same. read more

I've been coming to the Canton Public Library since I was a little girl. It's cool to see all of the changes and upgrades that they made since then. I've lived in Canton for almost two decades, and CPL is one of my favorite places... ever. Let me explain - I've watched this library double in size, watched murals painted on its walls, art installations make their tentative debut and become beloved landmarks within the library. I remember being amazed by the fact that I could basically LIVE IN THE LIBRARY when Jungle Java opened (I think I was in elementary school... Books galore, comfy couches everywhere, and now sustenance? Perfect.) I can confidently say that I owe at least 40% of my current vocabulary - and love efor reading physical bools - to this library. I spent countless hours reading paperback fantasies in the kids, and later the ~*~cool~*~ teen sections. I watched the manga/graphic novel selection grow (on the suggestion of preteen fans like me when I was in that phase...) to one of the most comprehensive in metro Detroit libraries. When I started studying for standardized tests, I's rush to the "quiet rooms" for some solace. The ample tables and computer stations are perfect places for tutoring and group study sessions. The point of all this nostalgia is that CPL has constantly grown and changed within the community it serves. More objectively - the receptionists are lovely and always helpful (many of them are volunteers!). Online renewal systems and catalog are easy to understand and navigate... and CPL is well connected to the MEL - even if a title isn't available at the library, you can request it! The programming the library provides for patrons is awesome and consistent... The summer reading programs are well structured and kids get their pick free (often new) books at the end as a prize! The library is also well-connected to community and schools, providing tutoring and tech training. Also, there's a whole tech/media station with copy/printer/fax machines for a small fee. And I can't write a review without waxing lyrical about the Secondhand Book Store in the back of the library... it's such a well-kept secret. I have gotten nearly new organic chemistry textbooks for $1 here (a boon to college students!!) Most of the so-so reviews here focus on how the library isn't as flashy or "modern" as others. I'd respond with the fact that Canton is a dynamically diverse township - I may be a little starry-eyed, but I don't think a library has to be flashy or super tech savvy or provide every single amenity to be stellar. CPL is a wonderful learning, growing, meeting, and of course reading place and has always had its focus on patrons. In a quickly changing community, these open spaces are so precious and integral to so many generations in the area. I've always been impressed by the staff's dedication - and it shows! If I could give this place zero stars, I absolutely would. Do not come here unless you would like to be harassed by staff members and the youth scum of the Canton area. While minding my own business in a study room and taking an online exam, I was given dirty looks from overprivileged teens also looking for a room - which may I add are first come first serve. Not only did they demand that I leave in the middle of my test giving me an automatic zero for my current section but there was no other quiet room for me to scramble to finish my test. The staff also demanded I leave despite having done nothing wrong. Even after explaining I was in the middle of an exam, they had no sympathy. Although the rooms and facility itself are adequate, the staff and fellow attendees of this library made it a near traumatic experience for me. I am now emailing my professor profusely apologizing for the unacceptable situation that just unfolded and I am scrambling for a solution. Being new to the Canton area, I was looking for an inviting place to go about my studying and it is clear that I was gravely mistaken. I am completely dumbfounded by the disrespect and unprofessionalism displayed by this establishment and the youths who ruined this experience for me. It is more than safe to say I will never be returning. Unless you enjoy being heckled, I urge you to do the same. Sincerely, Disappointed. read more

Cut up your Blockbuster card, leave behind your resentful attitude about whatever the hell Qwister was and come as fast as you can to the Canton Public Library. Never pay for a movie again, this library has everything you want and what they don't have can be checked out using the MEL system (make sure to ask a librarian if you don't know what it is). The books, CDs and audiobooks are all here too. Computers abound (with no time limit) as does the free wifi (again without time limit). And a fantastic and friendly staff are always here to answer any questions you have. Which leaves me with one question for you. Why aren't you here yet?! read more

This little library is always bustling. I haven't spent too much time inside as usually I reserve a book online and then run it to get it off the hold shelf. I've tried to check out e-books on my iPad but it seemed really complicated and by the time I thought I had figured it out, it said all the e-books I wanted were already at their max check out limit. I don't know how that can be if it's an e-book. I could have been doing it wrong but that was my experience. read more

I have been coming to the library for the past 2 weeks as I needed a space with wifi to study, I love it. Nice sofas, computer lab, children section with a lot of activities, friendly staff. The only down side is that they don't have fresh coffee, only coffee and vending machines. I will definitely check their book selection and bring my daughter in the future! read more

Love this place. The only thing I feel should be changed, is the policy for the bigger study rooms. It says ppl 2 or more can kick someone out if they have one person. KIDS shouldn't count. If you want to read to children, take them to the kids side of the library, I shouldn't have to leave a study room because you want to read to your children. That's not fair. read more

It is your run-of-the-mill middle class town library. Nothing great, fancy, or special about it. Better than some, but not awesome. They got rid of the coffee shop so that is a downer. They don't have anything beyond trivial novels and popular books. It is a bad place to do any kind of serious research. With that said, it is a cool (air conditioned), safe, quiet place with wifi and tables. So, if need a place to do personal that doesn't require research it is a decent choice. read more

I don't see what the big deal is about this library. It reminds me of your typical high school library, with the old (Ford) Dearborn style clocks attached to the walls. Low ceilings with the old 90's office type tiles on them. Free wifi though, which is nice since I barely get a signal with t-mobile in here. if you have kids and you don't have a library this great near you, I feel sorry you. Honest to goodness pity. I would tilt my head, and maybe put my hand on your shoulder and say 'Oh my, really? Oh dear. I'm so sorry. What a tragedy. How do you go on?' and I wouldn't even say it sarcastically. Here are the things I have done or am planing to do with my kids this month at the library: Dancing, watch a bat show, watch Native American dancers, storytime, and reading to dogs. All for free (well, I live in Canton, so I pay taxes, so instead I will call it 'prepaid' Ha!) The kids love all of them. When I ask them where they want to go on the weekend, the first vote is always for the beach, but the SECOND vote is usually for the library. (you didn't really expect a library to beat out the beach now did you?) They check out huge stacks of books, I check out some new cookbooks and we all go home happy, only to do it all again next week! read more
