This is a very nice library. There is plenty of parking, there are three study rooms, and the staff is very friendly. The selection is limited due to the library size - but I haven't had trouble finding plenty of things to peruse. It would be nice if there were one or two more study rooms, because they are often full. Overall very pleased with this library. read more

To all of those who have been here between the times of 3-4:30 in the past years, I need to apologize. My friends and I used to terrorize this place when we got out of school. It's a fairly large library, which is surprising. Not as large as the Ann Arbor libraries, but still large. They have a wide variety of books you can check out, which is pretty cool. I rented Game of Thrones from the library. You only get the dvd for a week, but that's enough time to watch it! Very good show. The librarians there are a different story. They aren't very friendly towards kids. Now, kids can be rotten. We can agree on that. However, these librarians make the kids look like angels. It's impressive how awful they are. There was one time in particular that I was out in a thunderstorm, wet, cold, and I needed a place to stay until I could get picked up. They librarians would not let me in, and they made me wait outside in the storm! It was unbearable! The saline library is a place to go on occasion, but I prefer to go to the Ann Arbor libraries. read more

This is a beautiful library. I really enjoy my visits here, and stop by at least once a week. There is a flower garden on each side of the walkway, tended by the Saline Stone & Thistle Garden Club. There is a charming statue of children (see my photos) near the front door. There are skylights that bring in a lot of light. The foyer has nice tables where teens often wait for their ride. (Again, see my photos.) The bulletin board in the foyer is a great way to find out about upcoming events. The Saline District Library has a great selection of books, a free book swap corner, a used book shop that also has CDs and movies, 2nd Saturday morning "fill a bag" book sales, and best of all, if they don't have it at SDL, you can borrow it from another library by going to Michigan Electronic Library (mel.org). Besides books, there are music CDs, movies, books on tape (or CD) and the ever-changing art exhibits in the display cases. Sometimes I'm only at the library to drop off a book or DVD but I check out the art displays whenever I have time to linger a little longer. I also dig the online resources such as Hoopla, Zinio and Freegal. Hoopla lets you access up to 12 items each month: movies, audio books and ebooks. It's nice to "read" a book while doing chores at home. Zinio allows you to read the latest issues of selected magazines online. And Freegal allows you to download up to five songs per week that you get to keep forever on your MP3 player. The reason I include this review in my "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!" Yelp list is because you can drop off used books in the lobby which are sorted and resold to help support the library. Also, I often tell myself, "Why should I own a particular book if I can borrow it from the library?" There are some that I access often enough or that are specialized enough that they're worth keeping at my house; for everything else there's the library. My gateway to knowledge! There is also a magazine drop box in the lobby. Leave a few, take a few. You never know what you'll find in there. Check out the calendar of SDL events, both available as printed brochures and on the library website. If you use Google Calendar, you can have the events automatically added to your view of the app on your phone or laptop. There are events for all ages. This library has a lot of stuff for kids, and all the children's books and movies are in one section, but I often watch the movies that are supposed to be for kids. Just watch out for scratched DVDs. Honestly, I don't know how they get so scratched (Do the kids breakdance on them?) but my husband buffs out the scratches so they are watchable again. Try the self check out when there's a line at the desk. Scan your library card and enter your pin. Then scan the items you're checking out. Read the instructions. Lay the item barcode-side-up on the bed, sliding it to match the arrows. Yes, it can read the barcodes upside down. Faster than waiting in line, unless you have a MelCat item to pick up, which must be done at the main desk. I must be one of their super-users because they all seem to know me by name. I feel like a celebrity when I'm there. We always have a great time visiting with each other. If you spend as much time there as I do, you'll appreciate the helpful and friendly staffers. read more

Being able to walk to the library was a compelling reason for why we ended up leaving where we do. I am a huge fan of libraries! The Saline library is very nice. The new book selection is large and they typically have multiple copies of popular titles. My family really enjoys the programs they offer, from summer reading to events around things like "Johnny Appleseed" or holidays. We like the free DVD's, too. The only reason they don't rate 5 stars is the child's area. Before we moved to this area, we were blessed with a library that had an extensive kids area, with trains, lots of rocking chairs, magnetic walls, computers with headphones, a wooden fire truck kids could climb in, etc... This made it easy to spend a couple of hours at the library with kids of a variety of ages (my little one could play with the trains while my older one and I read together). I would love to see something like this here in Saline. read more

Lovely, well designed local community space for book lovers. The layout is great, lots of defined space for young children, teens and adults. It is a well used facility and obviously appreciated by the community. They have a regular stream of new titles arriving, coupled with great technology resources for tech savvy readers. read more

I go to the library pretty frequently to study and I take my nieces to there Tuesday story time, where they are read a story and create a craft at the end on the subject of the story. The staff is very helpful and are eager and passionate about their jobs. Bonus it's 1 minute away from where I live. read more

Honestly, I cannot imagine anyone giving this library a bad review...I have lived all over the country and this is one of the most well-kept, charming libraries and the librarians are always kind and helpful. One time, I had heard an author being interviewed on NPR radio and the book sounded intriguing. I went to Saline Library and requested it but they did not have it. The book had just been released. The librarian listened to me describe the book and the interview that I had just heard and requested the book as she wrote it down as a book to consider that they purchase. I got an email, shortly afterward, that the book, newly purchased, was available to me. I never had that happen before and it spoke volumes to me about the library's intent. Pun intended. read more

The Saline Library is wonderful. They have renovated recently and the inside is lovely. Their children's section is large and they even have a section for teens that has a good selection of YA novels and graphic novels. The staff is very helpful as well. Obviously it's smaller than libraries nearby like Ann Arbor but it's perfect for Saline. I loved coming here when I lived in Saline! read more
