I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cantina Azteca , and I must say it was an absolute delight from start to finish! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a vibrant atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The decor was beautifully authentic, with colorful accents and charming Mexican artwork that set the perfect ambiance for an unforgettable dining experience. Now, let's talk about the food - it was nothing short of spectacular! Each dish was bursting with flavor and made with the freshest ingredients. From the sizzling fajitas to the mouthwatering tacos and savory enchiladas, every bite was a true culinary delight. And let's not forget about the homemade salsa and guacamole - simply divine! Not only was the food delicious, but the presentation was also impeccable. Each dish was artfully plated, showcasing the chef's attention to detail and culinary expertise. To top it all off, the service was outstanding. Our server Israel was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. Overall, exceeded all of my expectations and left me eager to return for another unforgettable meal. Whether you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine or simply looking for a cozy spot to enjoy good food and great company, I highly recommend paying them a visit. You won't be disappointed! Good lord, if you thought that the service was slow at the original Rey Azteca you will be shocked by the slow delivery of food at this place! It took an hour, well 55 minutes for the cooks to make 2 plates of eggs and beans. Granted, it was a busy Sunday at 11:45 AM, but still, why does an egg take so long to prepare. (BTW it's now 1:37 PM and we JUST finished our meal) As for the food, it was as good as expected for a Rey Azteca establishment. However, the prices were not commensurate with what you get. For example I paid $10.99 for a scrambled egg and beans! For that price you would expect that they would at least serve it with Mexican rice. Not only that, but you still have to get up to get your own chips and salsa! I think next time we want a sit down Mexican breakfast we'll head up the street less than a mile and enjoy the same meal for about $6 at the Adelbertos. There you get the same quality food in about 5 to 10 minutes regardless of how long the line is. I'll try this place one more time because I'm a very big supporter of local business. But if things remain the same you can be sure this review will stand. And for goodness sake, add a scoop of 20 cent rice to the breakfast plates! read more

After moving into the Sacramento area a few months ago I was anxious to leave behind the Mexican restaurants I enjoyed back in LA, however, my anxiety was cured as soon as I gave Cantina Azteca a try. No matter what I order Cantina Azteca is on point with their food, anything from their mariscos to quesabirria tacos the flavors rival those I missed back home. Additionally the staff and restaurant itself provide the most authentic and nice experience one could ask for when enjoying their food. Lastly I just have to give Israel a shout out for consistently going that extra mile when it comes to service, and helpfulness. If you have any questions upon coming in, he is your guy. I was driving around looking for some Mexican food and accidentally stopped by this place. From the moment I walked in the hostess was very pleasant and polite. But OMG, the food was phenomenal, and Maira the waitress. Words can describe the level of customer service that she provided. Since we're celebrating Latinx Heritage Month, I thought it would be wonderful to visit Mesa…read moreMercado! I was told I had to check out Milagro Centre in Carmichael after my hair appointment, and I'm so glad I did! It's such a fun indoor-outdoor gathering spot, with several independently owned restaurants brought together in a lively, open market-style setting. I can only imagine how immaculate that giant outdoor fireplace looks when it's lit up at night! After seeing Italian food, sushi, gelato, pie, and River City Brewing among our options, my friend and I decided on Mesa Mercado. We were in the mood for some good Mexican food, and the ratings here looked great! Owned by founder Ernesto Delgado, Mesa Mercado was designed to celebrate and preserve the traditions of Latin American culture. When we walked in, we were told to sit anywhere we liked. Mesa Mercado was decorated to the MAX, and it was beautiful! There were hanging plants, piñatas, and vibrant papel picado banners everywhere. Even the bar area was decorated with dehydrated lime wheels piled high inside a tall glass jar. It was colorful and fun while still having an elegant look to it. The restaurant was very quiet, but we arrived between the lunch and dinner rushes. We were greeted by Remmi and given a taster of small mango pieces sprinkled with tajin... mmmm, nice touch, because that made us feel super special from the start. Right away, we ordered the salsa sampler, featuring a taste of salsas from around the world, along with an order of warm black beans. We received one basket of chips to share between the two appetizers, but it was honestly the perfect amount because we probably wouldn't have finished two baskets anyway. All three salsas were tasty! One was a traditional red salsa, the next was salsa verde, and the last was made with peppers and had a slightly sweet flavor. The black beans needed salt, but I got to add to my like l liking and that was great. They were otherwise tasty. For lunch, my friend ordered the "Pick Two Items" with a crispy chicken taco and a chicken enchilada with green sauce, which our server, Remmi, recommended. Her plate also came with rice and beans topped with cotija cheese. I ordered the Chili Verde Carnitas Burrito. We were HUNGRY, so we were excited when our food arrived--and everything looked so yummy! My friend enjoyed her plate, although her enchilada was accidentally served with red sauce instead of the recommended green sauce. The chicken in her taco had great flavor.... juicy and tender. But I have to say, nothing could compete with my Chili Verde Carnitas Burrito. That burrito was freaking OUTSTANDING! The carnitas were soooo tender and savory with the verde sauce, the green tortilla was unbelievably soft... every flavor danced together in my mouth! I loved every bite! After finishing half, I was full AF, lol, but I was genuinely excited to take the rest home because now I get to enjoy it twice! At some point, I ordered a Cadillac margarita. Remmi made it for me, and it came with a Tajín rim and one of those dehydrated lime wheels as a garnish. It was super delicious and beautiful! Remmi was an awesome server. He was patient, kind, and attentive throughout our entire visit. He took great care of us and helped make our first experience at Mesa Mercado even better. With food this flavorful, a beautiful atmosphere, and great service, I can absolutely see myself coming back sooner rather than later!

I ordered a Pork Tamale and Shredded Chicken Hard Taco a la cart. The Pork Tamale was okay, but they cover it in enchilada sauce which was new for me...the Taco on the other hand, it was so bland. The chicken had no flavor and there were 4 shreds of cheese on it plus a heaping pile of lettuce. My husband ordered the Fajitas Burrito and was not a fan either. My Sister in Law ordered one of their Shrimp plates and it was super fishy tasting - she ended up sending it back. Inside they have many tables if one chooses to dine inside while also having tables outside if one prefers outside dining. This is a casual restaurant,so no need to get dressed up or anything, casual dining at its finest. Parking is easily available as well as they share a decent sized lot with multiple other businesses. In closing, If you're ever in the Watt/Marconi area and want to try a quality breakfast burrito-I'd fully recommend stopping by and giving them a try-they have never failed me.

The guy taking our order was super nice and patient as we looked over the menu. We ordered my Quesabirria Tacos, a Street Taco, a Boujee Taco and chips with salsa. The Quesabirria Tacos were super salty and had an overly smokey taste. Not a fan. However, the other tacos were tasty and so were the chips and salsa.

The decor is adorable and you can tell it's been around for awhile. It is very much a 90s Mexican establishment. They are missing the late night crowd and a happy hour though. We think it may be popular for lunch. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. 5/5 stars for her. Chips: not stale as other reviews stated. Very basic, but good! Salsa: very good. No cilantro but good flavor. We were really impressed and it tasted very homemade. Carnitas burrito and chicken taquitos: both were fine, meat on both were a bit dry but solved easily with toppings and salsa Rice: also on the dryer side, had more spices than usual, but still lacked flavor or maybe just salt? Beans: came out very hot with shredded cheese on top. We enjoyed these quite a bit.
