Archie went to camp with Gina for three weeks and came home a different dog. I'm still a little…read moreamazed. He's a five-pound chihuahua who shakes when someone new walks in the room and basically lived on my lap or behind my knees. I'd worried a trainer would either give up on him or scare him worse, but from the very first day Gina put so much thought into making him feel safe. She texted that afternoon to say he'd already jumped into her daughter's arms. When he barely ate the first couple days and I got worried, she talked me through it and told me he'd come around, which he did. She took him on long walks around the park and the neighborhood to burn off his nerves before she ever asked anything of him. His crate became his safe spot at her house, a familiar place that was all his in the middle of a busy home with other dogs and parrots and training going on. And she started him on tiny, predictable rules, sitting before a door, coming when called, so he always had something he understood to hold onto in a new situation. She explained that for an anxious dog, knowing what to expect is half the battle. She also refused to pick him up every time he got scared, and warned me that part would be harder for me than for him. She was right. Somewhere around the second week he started smiling in the photos. He was hanging out with her little dogs and her family, going on field trips to the park and coffee shops, staying on his place while she walked away, heeling next to her. He knows sit, place, heel and here now, and he does them for me too. The turnover at my apartment took a couple hours and it was real work. She sat me down and explained everything before we ever touched the dog, then had me practice with Archie while she corrected what I was doing wrong. She's kept sending reminders and answering my questions since, including a few dumb ones about shampoo and brushes. Here's the part I still can't get over. We went to a party a couple weeks after he got home, which is a huge deal for Archie. He sat on other people's laps. He licked hands. He barely cowered. Six weeks ago he would have spent the whole night shaking under my chair. Everyone at the party noticed and commented on the change in his demeanor. I was a proud mama that day! If your dog is the anxious type, the one who hides, trembles, won't eat around strangers, or has to be carried everywhere, I really want you to hear this. A lot of trainers are set up for big confident dogs and don't know what to do with a scared little one. Gina does. She never rushed him, never forced him, and never made me feel silly for babying him all these years. She reads a nervous dog and meets them where they are, then slowly builds them up until they can handle the world on their own. That's exactly what Archie needed. I honestly feel like Gina is just getting started with him, and I'm already thinking of when I can work with her again. If you have a tiny, anxious dog and you're on the fence, go with Gina. Pebbles (blue heeler, 1.5 years old) would never listen to me, would not sit or lay still, and had a lot of other obedience issues that caused her to be stressed or confused. She was a TOUGH dog to train and I was concerned I couldn't find the solution for her to get basic concepts. This view has completely changed since working with RSK9's 3 week program. I would HIGHLY recommend them and their methods - you can tell they genuinely love working with dogs and it's made a huge difference in giving my dog the chance to find real rest at home. They send DAILY updates with photos and videos which was so nice. This isn't a regular class or something you just pay for; it's truly an investment that you and your dog will be using for the time you get to share together. Side note: it's worth doing 3 weeks versus 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark is when Pebbles really started to understand her marks and cues. Just toured giving tree today as my dog got evaluated. Evaluation comes with a free half day of…read moredaycare. Monday through Friday they're open 7am to 7pm. Weekends are currently 8am to 5pm, although they are looking to extend hours to 6pm. Nap time every day is 12-2pm. It's a 12,000+ square foot facility (it used to be the Future Business Leaders of America building) near reston towne center. They started just 5 weeks ago with 5 dogs, and today my dog became #70! While my dog was getting evaluated, the owner, Yong, gave me a tour of the whole place. They have multiple different rooms based on size of dog. They also have an agility training room. They use the GingrApp online portal for booking and records management. Floors are an epoxy resin for easy cleanup and also grip for the dogs' paws. The only downside is that they don't have live feeds for you to watch your dog, and I love spying on my pup while I'm working. Also, while they do have an outdoor space that's a half acre, it won't be open until they get their permit to build a 6' wall (at the moment it's just a decorative boundary-type brick wall that's like 1.5' tall). So for right now it is indoors only, with an outdoor area for potty breaks only. They have referral bonuses at the moment. If you are the referred, you get a free half day(?) of daycare. If you are the referrer, you get a free forest walk. The "comfort" boarding option is just a standard wire crate. Forest view is a kennel with an outside view. Presidential suite is an 8x8 room with a tv that up ur dog can watch. All boarding comes with daycare. I can't remember if it was just the presidential suite or if it's all of them, but it also comes with 2 forest walks. The "day camp" options you see in the menu are add ons to the regular daycare day. They do also offer cat boarding. It's a room with cat trees and cat condos for them to hang out in. Large and clean and friendly facility. They also offer grooming on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I think I'll be adding Giving Tree to my rotation of daycares!

I also book the Presidential Suite for them when we travel or go on vacation. Our usual grooming charge for both dogs has been around $100 before tip. This time, I was shocked when I went to pick them up and was told the total was $200. One of my dogs weighs 57.2 lbs and the other 23.6 lbs, according to their recent vet records. I was told the higher price was because of their weight, plus deshedding charges. I looked at the pricing grid and did the math myself. The total should have been around $140. After a frustrating back and forth, I found out I had been charged double the advertised deshedding fee and that my dogs had also been put into higher weight categories. I showed the employee their actual weights from their vet records on my phone. She agreed to correct the deshedding charges to what was advertised in the app, but the whole interaction left me feeling like I was somehow wrong for expecting to pay what I had been invoiced and charged each time I had brought them in before. I understand prices go up, but this was exorbitant and, in my opinion, beyond justification. When I got home and looked at the receipt, I also realized the higher weight categories were still being charged. But honestly, the biggest issue for me is this: I reserved a service based on an advertised price and expected to be charged accordingly. Being told at pickup that the advertised price is basically just a "starting point" is incredibly frustrating. By that logic, what is stopping the final bill from being $300 or $500? I love my dogs and have trusted Giving Tree with them, including when we travel. Unfortunately, this experience completely changed how I feel about the business. The lack of transparency and the way this was handled destroyed my trust. I will not be returning.

Our dog boarded and trained there for two weeks. James spent a lot of time with our dog to overcome his reactivity. We met with James and our dog in Reston Town Center on a Saturday afternoon and were amazed how far our dog had come to tolerate being near other dogs. James worked with us for an hour that afternoon, instructing us how best to minimize leash reactivity while our dog encountered other dogs. Our dog is not perfect and we continue to work with him under James' guidance, but our dog is significantly improved. Additionally, we found the Dog U facility clean and well-managed. Dog U's staff has always been professional, helpful and friendly. We highly recommend Dog U.
