How about to the point where your dad already tried to open it up before it was time to indulge? Well that's what happened when my mom had the most beautiful chocolate charcuterie spread from Chocolat. This decadent and rich dessert spread would even put Willy Wonka and his crew to shame. My favorite bites were the hand dipped white chocolate covered oreos and the milk chocolate covered dark chocolate cake bites. I kept grabbing one and the crazy part was that didn't include the options of the chocolate covered pretzels, truffle bites, individually wrapped chocolates and cookies, and so much more. Everything was fresh and that's that my mom had it at the house apparently for about 2-3 days before opening it. I loved every bite.

To be able to describe how happy I was to find Big Boy Concessions, I have to tell you a shortened…read moreversion of a longer story of my hunt for dry ice. When I arrived in El Paso, I had to look for dry ice. Now by the time I was able to get out of my hotel room to hunt around town, there were only a handful of stores open. I thought to myself, "No problem, Walmart will have it." It turns out that was not the case. They used to have it, say, 10 years ago, but that is no longer the case here in El Paso. So then I went to Sam's Club, Costco, Walgreens, CVS, Coldstone, Baskin Robbins, and a few other places through a google search without much luck. I even tried a find on google that took me 30 min outside of El Paso (pretty sure at that point I was in Juarez) to a place with an unlit road and an abandoned warehouse. There were cars outside parked with people in them but with the lights turned off. There was no dry ice there. Anyways, back to the review. Big Boy Concessions is probably the only place you'll find dry ice here in town. Luckily they have a lot of it. They also sell all the supplies people are looking for if they had an ice cream truck or trolley. They have party supplies as well including cotton candy that you can buy in bulk. The dry ice is kept in a big maroon bin that are generally hacked into smaller pieces but occasionally you will have the opportunity yourself to use the hammer and chisel to get additional pieces. From what I can tell, they constantly get additional shipments of dry ice so you can be sure that it'll be in stock for your dry ice needs! They are open through the weekend but on most days they close at 5pm. Parking is challenging but you won't be there that long. Nothing to write home about the inside as it is like a small makeshift distribution center for food supplies. Enjoyed greeting these folks every morning. Until next time!

Having recently moved to El Paso from Montréal, a city teeming with quality pastry shops…read more(especially french pâtisseries), I was on the lookout for a competent pastry shop here in town as soon as I landed. My first discovery was Belle Sucre, which, while struggling ever so slightly with actual french pastries (and french grammar, "sucre," a masculine noun, being "beau," not "belle"), excels at putting a french twist on american desserts. My second discovery was Orange Peel, a pastry shop that could stand toe-to-toe with Montreal's more eclectic (and less traditional) pastry shops (e.g., Pâtisserie Rhubarbe), were it to spontaneously relocate there. Inside this diminutive (but oh so quaint) pastry shop stands a refrigerated glass display filled with triple-threat confections that a) are simultaneously playful and homey in appearance, b) demonstrate exquisite texture (a feat made all the more surprising by the fact that many of the confections are gluten-free), and c) feature creatively combined and expertly balanced flavours that bring into play natural aromas and just enough sweetness. (Indeed, in a rare show of restraint for an american dessert establishment, sweetness is here kept on a leash, letting instead aromas come to the forefront of the flavour experience.) Although pastries on offer change regularly, they always come across as completely thought-through and carefully put-together, as if the recipes had been worked on and perfected over years. Indeed, there is an effortless quality to how the one single chef behind Orange Peel comes up with and executes new recipes, one that testifies to the extent of her pastry passion, knowledge, and skills. To top it all off, she is extremely friendly and always a joy to talk to and discuss her work with. Fortement recommandé!

The world needs a big, hot cocoa bomb right about now! Sprinkle Me Sweets makes awesome hot cocoa…read morebombs! It's my favorite item from them so far. Their cinnamon/dolce flavor bomb tastes great! They use good, fresh quality chocolate. The bomb included hot cocoa powder, marshmallows and cinnamon inside of it. Once it melted, the flavor was amazing! All you have to do is heat up some milk on the stove or in the microwave. After it heats up, you pour the milk over the bomb. The exciting part is when you see it melt right before your eyes. SMS also has a green Mr. Grinch bomb I really want to try! It's made with white chocolate and I'm not sure what else. The bombs come in two sizes. One is $5 and the smaller one is $3.50. I got the smaller size. They have a variety of flavors, even Abuelita chocolate. Aside from the hot cocoa bombs, they also make sugar cookies, do it yourself cookie kits, spicy candy and pickles and chocolate covered strawberries (which are also tasty BTW). They are beautiful to look at, too! A dozen of these make a perfect birthday gift. They offer home delivery at this time for a couple of bucks extra. You can see more of their items on their Facebook page, facebook.com/sprinklemesweets I've also tried their spicy pickle sometime back. It's interesting but I liked it too. It had chili powder and was wrapped in chamoy and a fruit roll up. The pickle was already spicy. Those are $5 each. Definitely check them out! You will get fast and friendly service here.
